President Blaise Compaoré stepped down on Friday after demonstrations against his bid to extend a 27-year rule. But the Burkina Faso military immediately dissolved parliament, imposed martial law and installed a top commander as transitional leader. Thousands of people rallied in the capital against the military over the weekend. The United Nations is calling for a peaceful transfer to civilian rule. .
