Israel Reneges on Pledge to Free Palestinian Prisoners

Israel has reneged on a pledge to free a small group of Palestinian
prisoners as part of the U.S.-brokered peace talks. Some 26 prisoners
were due for release over the weekend, but Israel says it will now only
release them if the Palestinian Authority agrees to extend the talks
beyond next month's deadline. The negotiations have faltered so far over
Israel's continued expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank.
