Walsh conducted a six-year investigation of the Reagan administration's covert sale of weapons to Iran and its use of the proceeds to secretly supply weapons to contra rebels in Nicaragua despite a congressional ban. Walsh won key convictions, but President George H.W. Bush later pardoned several officials involved, including Reagan's defense secretary, Caspar Weinberger. .
