Afghan Forces Assume Leadership Role amid Continued U.S. Presence 
------------------------------------------------------------------


 
NATO forces in Afghanistan handed leadership of security efforts in the
country to Afghan forces during a ceremony in the capital Kabul today.
The U.S.-led occupation will remain in Afghanistan until the end of next
year, purportedly in a more supporting role. On the same day the
transition was announced, a suicide blast in Kabul killed at least three
people.
