French Troops Launch Ground Operations in Mali

The hostage crisis in Algeria comes as French troops have launched
ground operations inside Mali days after their bombing campaign began.
According to the New York Times, unnamed U.S. officials say the incident
in Algeria could mark the beginning of a wave of regional attacks on
foreigners and that if the American hostages are harmed, then the Obama
administration "might reconsider [its] pledges not to commit ground
troops to the battle" in Mali.
