Anti-Coup Protests Grow in Maldives

Unrest is growing in the Maldives in the conflict between the government
and supporters of the ousted President Mohamed Nasheed. On Friday, state
forces cracked down on a protest of thousands of people led by Nasheed
calling for early elections. Tension have flared since last week when a
Commonwealth-back panel rejected Nasheed's claims of having been
overthrown in a coup at gunpoint earlier this year. Nasheed is
well-known internationally for his activism around the issue of global
warming, which he says threatens the survival of his small island
country.
