May 31, 2012 Florida Governor Advances Purge of Voter Rolls ----------------------------------------------- In election news, Florida Gov. Rick Scott is moving forward with a plan to purge thousands of people from the voting rolls in a state that could be a key battleground in the November election. While the move is ostensibly aimed at cracking down on non-citizens, critics say the process has relied on outdated information and swept up hundreds of eligible citizen voters. Already, citizens have begun receiving letters identifying them as possible non-citizens and requiring them to provide proof of citizenship in order to vote. An analysis by the Miami Herald found Hispanic, Democratic and independent-minded voters are most likely to be targeted in the purge. .
