June 21, 2012 Court Rules 7,000 New Orleans School Workers Wrongfully Dismissed After Katrina -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A group of New Orleans public school employees fired in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina have won a lawsuit alleging wrongful dismissal. On Wednesday, a Louisiana judge awarded plaintiffs $1 million in damages after ruling some 7,000 school employees wrongfully lost their jobs. The ruling clears the way for more damages, although the decision will likely be appealed. .
