June 19, 2012 Muslim Brotherhood Calls for New Protests Against Egypt's Military Council --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is calling for protests against the ruling military council in the aftermath of weekend elections and new edicts shoring up the council's control. The Brotherhood claims it won the race, but the apparent victory was overshadowed after Egypt's military rulers granted themselves new authority to limit the incoming president's role. Ahmed Shafiq, who served as the last prime minister under Hosni Mubarak and squared off against Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi, is still refusing to concede the race. On Monday, the military council pledged to hand over power at the end of the month as scheduled, but said it will continue to control the budget and other key matters until a new parliament is elected. .
