Chávez Picks Potential Successor Before Returning to Cuba for Cancer Surgery

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez has announced he is returning to Cuba
for more cancer surgery and endorsed Vice President Nicolás Maduro as
his potential successor if he is unable to continue leading. Maduro is a
former bus driver and union leader who previously served as
Venezuela’s foreign minister. Chávez was expected to make the trip
back to Cuba on Sunday after saying his cancer had returned.
