August 9, 2012 Japan Marks 67th Anniversary of U.S. Atomic Bombing of Nagasaki ---------------------------------------------------------------- Japan is marking the 67th anniversary today of the U.S. atomic bombing of the city of Nagasaki. Some 70,000 people were killed instantly and another 10,000 died in the aftermath of the attack on August 9, 1945, which flattened the city. It happened three days after U.S. planes dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing an estimated 140,000 people. .
