British Gov't Seeks Sweeping Surveillance Powers

Britain has announced a proposal that would allow one of its
intelligence agencies to monitor all domestic phone calls, text messages
and online activity under the rubric of counter-terrorism. The measure
would mark a drastic expansion of current rules that only allow
monitoring of individuals linked to existing cases. The proposal is set
to be formally unveiled next month.
