Clashes Erupt as Thousands of Chilean Students Protest

The stand-off over public education in Chile has intensified with the
largest police crackdown on massive student protests in months. On
Thursday, police used water cannons and tear gas in an attempt to remove
protesters from a main plaza in the capital, Santiago. Tens of thousands
of students had marched to the plaza after talks broke down with the
Chilean government.
