October 24, 2011 News Corp Shareholders Press Murdoch on Hacking Scandal -------------------------------------------------------- The media mogul Rupert Murdoch faced the ire of angry shareholders on Friday at News Corp's annual meeting in Los Angeles. News Corp has been mired in controversy following the revelations of extensive phone hacking at its News of the World newspaper. A number of protesters gathered outside the meeting, which was held in a film lot owned by a News Corp subsidiary. British lawmaker Tom Watson attended to demand accountability for the phone hacking. Tom Watson: "I didn't get any answers with the serious issues I raised with the board. But I wasn't really expecting that, it was really a somber mood in the room. It was very dark in the room as well. The acoustics were not great either. I raised my very serious concerns about more forms of illicit covert surveillance that took place in the U.K. The board heard what I had to say, the shareholders heard what I had to say and now it is incumbent on them to deal with it." .
