May 4, 2011 BP to Pay $25M to Settle Alaska Spill Charges ---------------------------------------------- The oil giant BP has agreed to pay $25 million to settle civil charges stemming from spills and corrosion at its massive pipeline system in Alaska. More than 5,000 barrels of oil were dumped at the North Slope in March 2006 when a BP pipeline exploded. BP was found to have ignored a government order requiring it to conduct expensive repairs on its network of 1,600 miles of pipelines. .
