Yemeni President Rejects Transition Proposal

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has rejected another transition deal
that would remove him from office. On Sunday, Saleh said he had refused
to sign an agreement brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council over what
he called fears of a "civil war." Earlier in the day, a group of Western
and Gulf diplomats serving as mediators were trapped in an embassy in
the capital, Sana'a, after being surrounded by armed government
loyalists. They were rescued by helicopter.
