Lawmakers Prepare Federal Debt Backup Plans as Negotiations Fail

The Washington Post reports House and Senate leaders are preparing
separate backup plans to raise the federal debt limit after another day
of intense negotiations failed to break a partisan impasse that
threatens to throw the government into default next week. The moves
comes days after House Speaker John Boehner abruptly abandoned
debt-limit talks with the White House on Friday.
