July 11, 2011 Syria Ambassador Summoned in D.C. Amid Reports of Surveillance of Protesters in U.S. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The U.S. Department of State has summoned Syria’s ambassador to the United States following reports of individuals being video-tapped at peaceful U.S. protests. According to a White House spokesperson, personnel under Syrian Ambassador Imad Mustapha have reportedly targeted protesters in the United States with both video and photographic surveillance. In addition, the United States has also informed the Syrian ambassador it is investigating reports suggesting authorities in Damascus have targeted U.S.-based protesters’ families in Syria. .
