December 15, 2011 Survey: Nearly 1 in 5 Women Victimized by Sexual Assault --------------------------------------------------------- A federal survey has provided new figures on the prevalence of sexual violence against women in the United States. The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey found nearly one-in-five U.S. women have been sexually assaulted at some time in their lives, and one-in-four women the victim of severe violence by a boyfriend or husband. One-in-six women has experienced a stalking experience that made her fearful for her own life or that of a close relative or friend. More than one million women reported being the victims of rape or an attempted rape over a 12-month period. .
