April 21, 2011 U.N. Warns World To Prepare For More Nuclear Accidents ------------------------------------------------------- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned Wednesday that the world must be prepare for more nuclear accidents on the scale of Chernobyl and Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant, but he declined to call for an end to nuclear power. Ban Ki-moon made the comment at a conference in Kiev, Ukraine, marking the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon: “We have to have a sharper focus on the relationship between natural disaster and nuclear energy. We have to have review on cost and benefit of nuclear energy. And lastly we also have to have a serious review of how we can strengthen nuclear energy safety and how we can protect nuclear technology from nuclear terrorism." .
