Admin Appeals Ruling Against Gay Marriage Ban

The Obama administration, meanwhile, has appealed a federal judge’s
ruling preventing the government from enforcing the 1996 Defense of
Marriage Act, which denies federal recognition of gay marriage. The
Obama administration says it opposes the law but is obligated to defend
federal statutes when challenged in court.
