March 26, 2010 Student President Vetoes UC Berkeley Divestment Resolution ---------------------------------------------------------- At the University of California, Berkeley, a campaign to divest from companies doing business with Israel has been dealt a setback. The president of the student government has vetoed the bill urging the school to divest from General Electric and United Technologies because of what they described as "their military support of the occupation of the Palestinian territories.” The veto was issued days after the student government voted 16 to 4 to approve a resolution calling on the school to divest from the companies. .
