Thousands Protest Electricity Shortages in Basra

In other Iraq news, thousands of people marched through the city of
Basra on Saturday to protest ongoing electricity shortages as the summer
arrives. One demonstrator was killed after Iraqi police opened fire on a
crowd throwing rocks at a government building. Many of Basra’s poorer
neighborhoods are receiving electricity just one hour a day as summer
temperatures climb to over 120 degrees.
