July 13, 2010 Somali Militant Group Claims Responsibility for Uganda Blasts ------------------------------------------------------------- In Uganda, the death toll from Sunday’s twin bomb blasts has risen to 74. The Somali militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the blasts which targeted people watching the World Cup finals. The bombings mark the first time al-Shababa has struck outside of Somalia. Survivors of the blast included 14-year-old Thomas Kramer of Winfield Pennsylvania. Thomas Kramer: "At first I thought the explosion was a fire work, but I thought like I was imagining it because I thought I fell asleep and I was imagining it, then I realized like leg was bleeding and blood was all over the floor from me and other people, and me and my mum went to the other room where we later got picked up, but am just thankful to be alive because if I was sitting two seats to the left I would have lost my life, because our friend Becky, she is from Uganda, she didn’t make it." .
