Polk Award Given to Unnamed People Who Filmed Death of Iranian Student

And in journalism news, the 2009 George Polk Awards were announced
Monday. An award was given to the unnamed people who captured on video
the shooting death of Iranian student Neda Agha-Soltan during protests
of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s disputed reelection. The
curator of the awards, John Darnton, said “This award celebrates the
fact that, in today’s world, a brave bystander with a cell phone camera
can use video-sharing and social networking sites to deliver news.”
