Afghanistan Drops Private Military Ban

The Afghan government has abandoned a decree to shut down private
military firms by the end of the year. Afghan President Hamid Karzai
ordered the firms’ closure in August but has since backed down under
U.S. pressure. The Obama administration had warned the security ban
would jeopardize aid and development projects in Afghanistan.
