August 4, 2010 US Envoy to Attend Hiroshima Memorial for 1st Time -------------------------------------------------- The Obama administration is sending a representative to Japan to mark Friday’s sixty-fifth anniversary of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima. It’s the first time a US administration has sent an envoy to Japan’s annual ceremonies marking the attack. An estimated 140,000 people were killed instantly or died within a few months after the bombing. Three days later, another US airplane dropped a plutonium bomb on the city of Nagasaki, killing about 80,000 people. .
