April 13, 2010 Senate Moves Toward Restoring Jobless Benefits ---------------------------------------------- The Senate has cleared a hurdle to restoring jobless benefits that expired last week. On Monday, the Senate voted 60 to 34 to proceed on taking up a measure that would extend unemployment insurance and COBRA health insurance subsidies for the unemployed. More than 200,000 unemployed workers have been denied unemployment insurance benefits because Republican Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma was able to delay the bill before the two-week Easter recess. .
