US Priest Slain in Guatemala

A US priest who helped expose abuses by the Brazilian military
dictatorship during the 1970s has been killed in Guatemala. The Reverend
Lawrence Rosebaugh died Monday in a robbery attack by masked gunmen. He
was seventy-four years old. In 1977, Rosebaugh hand-delivered a letter
to First Lady Rosalynn Carter detailing his abuse at the hands of
Brazilian forces, helping to bring international attention on the
Brazilian dictatorship.
