Pope Criticizes Israel’s Separation Wall

In Israel and the Occupied Territories, Pope Benedict XVI continued his
visit with a trip to Israel’s separation wall around the Palestinian
town of Bethlehem. The Pope called for the establishment of a
Palestinian state and decried the wall as “tragic.”

Pope Benedict XVI: “I have seen, adjoining the camp and overshadowing
much of Bethlehem, the wall that intrudes into your territories,
separating neighbors and dividing families. Although walls can easily be
built, we all know that they do not last forever. They can be taken
down.”
