Insurance Companies: Public Health Option Would Be “Devastating”

Obama’s comments come as the insurance industry is intensifying its
lobbying against the public insurance option. On Tuesday, the nation’s
largest insurance industry group, America’s Health Insurance Plans, said
a government-run program would bring “devastating consequences” and
“dismantle employer-based coverage, significantly increase costs for
those who remain in private coverage, and add additional liabilities to
the federal budget.”
