June 10, 2009 Uyghur Prisoners to Be Resettled in Palau ----------------------------------------- The Obama administration, meanwhile, has reportedly reached an agreement to transfer up to seventeen Chinese Uyghur prisoners from Guantanamo to the Pacific archipelago of Palau. Earlier today, Palau’s government released a statement saying it would “temporarily resettle” the Uyghurs. The group is still being held at Guantanamo, even though they are no longer considered enemy combatants. The reported agreement follows the Obama administration’s efforts to block a legal petition for the Uyghurs’ release to the United States. .
