Sri Lanka Dismisses Tamil Tiger Ceasefire Offer

The Sri Lankan government has dismissed a unilateral ceasefire declared
by the Tamil Tigers. Pro-Tamil websites say the Sri Lankan military is
continuing to attack an area where at least 50,000 civilians remain
trapped. But the Sri Lankan military claims it has stopped using heavy
weapons in the region. The UN is estimating as many as 6,500 civilians
may have been killed so far this year in Sri Lanka. Another 14,000 have
been wounded.
