Red Cross Warns of “Humanitarian Catastrophe” in Congo
------------------------------------------------------



In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Red Cross is warning intense
fighting between government and rebel forces is causing a “humanitarian
catastrophe.” Tens of thousands of people have abandoned the restive
eastern city of Goma amidst an advance by armed rebels led by Laurent
Nkunda. Overall, some 200,000 have been displaced since August, and the
number is said to be growing by the hour.
