Gordon-Reed and Matthiessen Win National Book Award

And this year’s National Book Awards have been announced. Annette
Gordon-Reed won the nonfiction award for The Hemingses of Monticello: An
American Family, a biography of three generations of a slave family
owned by Thomas Jefferson. Peter Matthiessen won the fiction award for
Shadow Country.
