Remember, you need DiskCopy (/ftp/dts/utils/) to convert the image to a floppy disk. This new version addresses the disappearing files and folders problems that some users have experienced. It does NOT repair an already affected disk, but rather it prevents the problem from occuring in the first place. It also also includes the latest version of the LaserWriter driver (7.1.1). Apple recommends that ALL System 7.0 and 7.0.1 users install this version of the Tune-Up, including those users who had previously installed 1.0. It includes the following files: - System 7.0 Tuner 1.1 extension (new for v1.1) - LaserWriter driver 7.1.1 (new for v 1.1) - StyleWriter driver 7.2.2 (no change) - Chooser 7.1 (no change) Prior to installing this version, be sure to read the installation instructions which are on the disk and in /ftp/dts/mac/sys.soft/7.0.tuneup/ for the proper method to check your disk for the disappearing files and folders problem BEFORE installing. A couple of other notes. The LaserWriter driver 7.1.1 provides the following: - support for the LaserWriter NTR - Addresses a compatibility problem with LW driver 7.1 and the LaserWriter Plus This problem caused users to have to re-initialize the printer after every 8th print job - Addresses a problem in the LaserWriter IIf/g ROM, which causes PostScript errors to occur under certain conditions when printing TrueType fonts. NOTE: This new driver does NOT address the incompatibility which exists between LW driver 7.1 and certain third-party printers. This was not addressed as this is NOT a bug in the 7.1 driver, but rather an issue with the clone PostScript interpreters these printers use (PhoenixPage and TrueImage). Apple is working with the companies who sell these interpreters to produce a fix for this problem separately since the problems were caused by a deviation from the Adobe standard interpreter. Although this release of Tune Up adds a fix to prevent the disappearing files and folders bug, it does not fix disks which already have the bug. Apple is VERY aggressively investigating a new version of Disk First Aid to diagnose and repair the problem. Utility developers have also been provided the information to develop a solution. Even if you hold down the shift key to disable extensions, the fix for the disappearing files and folders problem WILL STILL BE INSTALLED. This assumes, of course, that the Tuner extension is in the Extensions folder. Doing an About this Macintosh still shows a bullet after the version number of the system if the Tune-Up is installed. The only way to tell which version of the Tune-Up is installed is to do a Get Info on the Tuner extension itself. -- Mark B.
