for your specific HTML. Please test thoroughly on a COPY of your site.

It's said that the Internet has made a new era of communcation possible.
But actually many people only receive information unilaterally. About forty
people took part in the making of this movie. I think this is an epochmaking

From: tom@twilightsw.com
Subject: DiskSurveyor 1.4
Now this popular utility has been updated to support large disks (up to 2
Terabytes) and MacOS Extended disk format (HFS Plus).
Do any of these scenarios sound familiar?
- The installer for that new software tells you there's not enough free
space on your drive...
- You're in the middle of downloading that big file from your favorite
place on the 'net and the "DISK FULL" message appears...
- Or, you're looking at your stack of CDROMs trying to remember which one
had that file you've been looking for...
Well, DiskSurveyor doesn't promise to make your hard drive any bigger, but
it does show you, GRAPHICALLY, what's hogging all that space. Click on a
folder and zoom in for a closer look. Or zoom back out. And with the
press of a key, you open the actual folder and can drag the "offending"
files to the Trash or your backup volume. Create DiskSummary files that
list all the files found on CDROMs or any other volume. No longer will you
have to waste valuable time navigating through folder after folder trying
to figure out which files need to be archived or trashed to free up
precious disk space.
Here's what some happy users are saying about DiskSurveyor --
"DiskSurveyor is one of the few shareware packages I've seen where I
immediately thought "now THAT'S useful, and well done"." - J.G., Denmark
"...very handy for cleaning the hard drive. Pointed out to me that the
bulk of space I'd lost was being consumed by umpteen billion saved email
messages from the past year and half..." - G.P., California
MACWORLD magazine "Shareware Pick of the Month" (3/97)
DiskSurveyor requires System 7 or greater and at least 256 colors (or
shades of gray) are recommended. (For those older Macs, Color QuickDraw is
required.)

#### BINHEX pagemark-201.hqx ****
From: bonze@databeast.com
Subject: PageMark 2.0.1: Scrollbar extension shows page end
PageMark is a Macintosh extension which flashes a bar to mark the end of the
previous page when you use a scrollbar control or the Page Down key to scroll
down a page and reach the end of a document.
When you reach the end of a document, often the page has scrolled up just a
few lines rather than a whole page... and you have to scan back over a whole
page you've already read to find the new lines at the end.
With PageMark, you won't waste time figuring out where you are, since the
flashing indicator shows you exactly where the previous page ended.
PageMark can also be configured to flash the marker when scrolling reaches the
top of a document, or the left or right margin, with different settings for
different applications. The "flashes" popup menu lets you select the number
of flashes; selecting "No flashes" will turn off the marker flashes for the
selected application. If the "Persistent bar" checkbox is on, PageMark leaves
the marker on, clearing it when you press a key or the mouse button.
PageMark requires Macintosh System 7.0 or later. The PageMark Extension is
packaged in a Control Panel. PageMark works with almost all Macintosh windows
which have scrollbars, including Netscape and Internet Explorer windows (the
only major exceptions appear to be Finder windows under MacOS 8 and the Alpha
text editor).
PageMark is $5 shareware. You can test PageMark for 30 days without
registering; after 30 days the PageMark Extension is disabled. (PageMark is

The popular quote coloring utility has had its internals rewritten once
again to provide for the two most asked for features:
- The ability to add your own quote characters.
and
- Smart quote level detection that ignores extra spaces.
For those of you that don't know what Eudora thing is...
Eudora Thing is a System Extension that watches the way the Eudora mail
application draws its text, and when it sees an a quote character
(>, :, |, ), or any user defined character) it colorizes that line of
text. It also weaves around colored text and URLs (and spelling errors
in Eudora 4.1).
But doesn't 4.1 do that already?
Eudora 4.1 introduces colorized quotes, but they only use one color to
colorize all levels of quotes. Eudora Thing will colorize up to six levels
of quotes with different colors, and uses characters other than ">".
Eudora Thing also works on all versions of Eudora and Eudora Lite.

What is OneApp Address Book?
OneApp Address Book is a practical telephone and address program for
Macintosh that allows you to quickly and easily manage addresses, phone
numbers, URLs and Email addresses. All this information, previously
scattered on notes, notepads, diaries, phone books and also in various
Email programs, Internet browsers and databases, is now stored in a
single place. With OneApp Address Book you can quickly find what you are
looking for. OneApp Address Book helps you in your daily work at the
office or at home and can follow you everywhere in your PowerBook.
OneApp Address Book is integrated with the Internet, allowing you to
connect with Web pages and send Email using your favourite Email and
browser software. The program also helps you to dial phone numbers by
reading them out loud (through the speaker) and has a most useful
calendar that appears in a small separate window.
OneApp Address Book lets you easily import addresses from the principal
Email clients, like Claris Emailer, Eudora Light, Eudora Pro, Microsoft
Outlook Express and from text files exported from Claris Works, Microsoft
Works and FileMaker Pro. In addition you can export the whole OneApp
Address Book database or selected parts of it.
When you begin using OneApp Address Book, you will appreciate all its
benefits. If you know how to use a mouse, then you are able to use OneApp
Address Book and you don't need to read the manual, but in this file you
will find some interesting information about the program.

AutoScript.fm simplifies the tedious task of duplicating and moving
FileMaker scripts from one FileMaker file to another. AutoScript.fm
accurately and quickly mimics what the user would do while creating

NEW TEXTURE EDITING UTILITY GIVES UNPRECEDENTED CONTROL TO QUAKE MAP
DESIGNERS
QUAKEINTOSH, December 2, 1998 -- http://wadtool.quakeintosh.com --
Phaedrus Qtensilius today announced the release of Wadtool, a new
graphics management utility for game developers. Specifically, Wadtool is
a must-have program for users of all abilities who design level maps for
idsoftware¼s popular game Quake.
Until now, there has been no complete Mac solution for editing Quake
textures (the graphic images which make up the walls and objects in level
maps). Wadtool fills a long-awaited niche, in providing superior control
over all aspects of texture editing. Wadtool unleashes the graphic artist
that lurks within the modeler, providing unprecedented control over the
graphics in all single-player and multi-player Quake maps the user
designs!
The product name derives from its flagship ability to modify WAD files,
the standard format for graphics collections from which most Quake
editing tools (such as Quiver, a map editing utility by Scott Kevill)
obtain their textures. For Wadtool, though, handling WADs is just the tip
of the iceberg.
Wadtool is designed for use in conjunction with other image-editing
programs to allow users to integrate their artistic creations into new
and existing Quake maps. Wadtool¼s user interface has been designed for
easy, intuitive use while simultaneously providing an array of advanced
tools. Here is a partial sampling of the nifty things the user can do
with Wadtool:
- edit any number of files at a time (limited only by available
memory)
- extract the textures from a BSP (map) and convert them into a new
WAD
- edit the textures in a BSP without having to recompile the map
- extract all textures from a PAK (total conversion) by simply
opening it
- resize any texture, with automatic image re-scaling
- adjust the colour balance of a texture using RGB sliders
- preview moving textures (liquids, as well as multi-frame
animations)
- remove unwanted "fullbright" colours with a simple menu command
- create sky transparencies with a simple menu command
- use the complete Edit menu suite, including cut, copy, paste and
undo
- copy textures between files and share them with other programs
- globally adjust the view brightness to your liking
Included in the Wadtool distribution, along with full documentation, is a
technical primer on how Quake textures work. With this background, even
the novice map maker can exploit Wadtool to its fullest.
Wadtool requires a Power Macintosh computer with MacOS 8.1 or later.
Wadtool is shareware, and costs $10US to register. Registered users will
enjoy full functionality and other perks (the unregistered version of
Wadtool has a couple of features disabled).
For full information on Wadtool, and to download the latest version,
visit its official home at Quakeintosh: http://wadtool.quakeintosh.com.

MacBreadboard is a Digital Electronics Breadboarding Simulator.
It has a very unique interface in which you "move" chips & wires on a virtual breadboard. MacBreadboard and WinBreadboard (the PC version) are used in many colleges and universities around the world. It's ideal for prototyping designs on the computer before going into the lab, or in situations where using actual breadboards is not practical for some reason.
The Full product includes 78 simulated TTL chips and it can even display timing diagrams.

correlations

#### BINHEX switch-res-152.hqx ****
From: madrau@kagi.com
Subject: SwitchRes 1.5.2 - german version
SwitchRes is an extension that allows you to control the resolutions
of all your displays. A Control Panel is joined, which lets you change
its preferences, and a Control Strip Module and a Contextual Menu
extension are bundled. You can change all your resolutions with just
one mouse click on the Finder desktop, or just by pressing one key.
It also allows you to:
----------------------
* use *all* available resolutions of your video cards, not only those
the MacOS choose for you
* automatically switch resolution and color depth of all monitors when
launching an application, and restore your settings when quitting
* position the desktop icons where you want, at every resolution change
and at startup
* configure the menus by choosing which resolutions and what bitdepths
will be displayed (Control Strip Module menu, Contextual Menu)
and a lot of other features...
SwitchRes requires MacOS 8, and a multisync monitor may be useful...
Of course, SwitchRes works fine under MacOS 8.5
It is distributed as a $9 shareware, but you can try the application
for 7 days.
What is new in version 1.5.2:
-----------------------------
Version 1.5.2 corrects some bugs, especially the one that prevented
the last used resolution to be applied again after a restart. It should
also be more stable at startup, and shouldn't crash any more when using
an unknown display or video card.
The main new feature is its ability to change the monitor where the
menu bar is shown (in a multiple monitor environment) from within the
control strip, the menu bar or the contextual menu.
SwitchRes now displays the correct texts in the Japanese version, uses
32 bits icons under MacOS 8.5 and shows a proxy icon in the window
title bar.
You can read the 'Read Me' file for a more complete description of all
little bugs that have been corrected.
What was new in version 1.5:
----------------------------
* All SwitchRes menus are definable independently: you can decide to
show the depths only in the Control Strip Module and the resolutions
only in the Contextual Menu, if you want
* SwitchRes can restore the display and sound settings when an
application quits
* You can prevent SwitchRes to re-apply an application defined setting
when you change the frontmost application.
* You can prevent an application to change the resolution. It's
specially
useful when a game is designed to work in a resolution that the
programmer decided to use.
* More NuBus based Macs are supported, including PowerMacs
6100/7100/8100 AV
and Powerbooks 520, 540 and 1400.
* The Appearance of the control panel has radically chaged: You can
resize
the Control Panel's window, and the lists are sortable by name, screen
size, etc.
* The Control Panel is now more compatible with some Kaleidoscope
schemes
* Lots of things have been improved...

StatistFunctions version 2.1

This HyperCard stack by Oscar van Vlijmen computes many statistical
functions with high accuracy.
Combinatorial functions e.g.: draws, permutations (and factorials even for
large numbers!), variations, combinations.
Probability density functions e.g.: hypergeometric (Lucky 10, Lotto),
binomial (football toto), negative binomial, multinomial, Poisson, normal.
Cumulative distribution functions e.g.: standard normal and inverse,
binomial, negative binomial, negative exponential, Erlang, gamma, beta, chi
square, F, T, Cauchy, Rayleigh, error function.
Just for free I've thrown in an Erlang B/C traffic calculator. Can also be
used for very large traffic units and number of trunks.
Many functions are clearly explained, although this stack is not a course
in statistics.
Emphasis is on statistical usefulness and accuracy, even for big numbers,
not on frills.
Freeware; not to be used for commercial applications; not on CD-ROMís.

#### BINHEX deskpop-105.hqx ****
From: reuven_sherwin@scitex.com
Subject: Deskpop 1.0.5
What does "Deskpop" do?
Deskpop is a Control Strip module which lists all volumes, folders and
files currently on the Mac's desktop.
This is especially useful for the (hopefully short) time the desktop is
cluttered.
Folders are displayed with the underline style.
Volumes (a.k.a. Disks) are displayed with the bold bold+underline style.
The Trash is displayed with the bold style.
Selecting an item from the Deskpop menu will open it.
Holding down the Control+Option keys will reveal it in the Finder.
Holding down the Control+Shift keys will move the selected item to the
Trash.
If the selected item is a volume, Control+Shift+selecting will unmount it
and eject it, if it¼s ejectable.
These key combinations can be modified using the "Deskpop Settings"
dialog, which is accessible from the Deskpop menu item with the same name.
Requirements
Requires Mac OS 7.1 or better, and scriptable Finder (which is integrated
into Mac OS 7.5 and better, I believe).
For more information, please read the Release Notes enclosed.
Thanks,

Subject: respondsrc - preemptive multitasking w/source code
This package contains source code for Respond!
Respond! is a control panel that brings a limited form of preemptive
multitasking to the Macintosh right now. And it runs on any Mac, 68k or
PowerPC, with System 7.0 or later. No more waiting for MacOS X or
Rhapsody. Even in Mac OS 8, if you hold down a menu in the Finder,
processes will not continue in the background. With Respond!, you can be
holding down a menu (particularly useful with Sticky Menus in Mac OS 8), or
clicking in a the zoom or close boxes (or the WindowShade collapse box in
Mac OS 8), or dragging a window or the thumb of a scroll bar, and processes
will continue in the background.
Respond! includes the option to use Live Window drag. When this option is
turned on, the full window, not just the outline, will be dragged, and both
foreground and background processing will continue, meaning the window
itself will be updated as its being dragged around! For example, you can
drag around an mp3 player window and watch as it continues playing and
updating the time counter while moving.

Better Amazon.com plug-ins for Apple's Sherlock feature in Mac OS 8.5.
Version 1.1 corrects the URL for downloading the latest version.
Enclosed are two Sherlock plug-ins for searching Amazon.com books and
music. These were created because any of the existing Amazon plug-ins I've
tried simply don't work correctly.
Generic Amazon plug-ins only search for books, not music, so I created a
separate music search. Shortly after creating this plug-in, another amazon
music plug-in turned up at a popular web site. In testing, I found that the
other book and music plug-ins did not return the full list of hits. In one
instance, a music search only returned two items where my music plug-in
returned over twenty! In addition, the other plug-ins included a separate
search for classical music which didn't work at all because it was
searching the books database. My single music plug-in correctly searches
both the popular and classical music databases.

Subject: MacDNSLogConverter 1.0
MacDNS Log Converter is an applescript witch transforms log files from
MacDNS so they can easily be edited within a spreadsheet software.
I had to conduct a survey to see which sites are most accessed from within
our company and found out that MacDNS log files contains all the required
information, but are difficult to read. As I found no analysis software
that can read MacDNS format, I wrote this script.
Basically, this script extracts from the log file dropped on it the date,
time, address of the requester and name of the requested site for each
request, then writes it into a new text file, with basic formatting.
Importing this new file in a spreadsheet (like Excel) is then just a matter
of dropping the file onto Excel's icon.
MacDNS Log Converter is free, edit it, modify it as you like -and send me a

From: deboer@king.igs.net
Subject: Twistory 1.2 - History Browser
"Twistory" is a history browser. It displays the lifetimes and
travels of historical figures, and dates and locations of historical
events. It is a tool for keeping track of when and where things happened,
and their relationships to each other. A resource of over 1600 people,
events and places is included. The database has an open text format, so
that more historical information can be added by any user. A complete
description of the file format is included.
Version 1.2 has user-defined "People" and "Events" menus, including
full control over occupation and event type definitions and their icons.
It now also has a "Find" window. It also fixes some inconsistencies that
earlier versions had in displaying voyages on the map.
The two main windows are the time-line window, which shows lives and
events against a variable time scale, and the map window, which shows
people and events in their geographic locations during an interval of time.
There is also a genealogy window which shows the ancestors and descendants
of the selected person, and an info window which shows additional details
about the person or event. A "This Day in History" window lists all
milestones occurring on a particular day of the year.
Twistory is not a substitute for proper reading about and research
into a historical period. It is meant to provide a way to keep track of
the multitude of different peoples, dynasties, empires and developments
throughout history. It is intended to answer questions like, "What else
was happening in the world at that time?" and "Did A live at the same time
as B, or before?" It is intended to provide the user with the "big
picture."
Twistory is a FAT binary, and requires system 7. It uses about 4.5 Mb
of disk space, and needs about 2 Mb of RAM to run comfortably. With a
large monitor or with several windows open, 4 Mb is better.
Twistory is $10 (US or CAN) shareware. You may evaluate it for free.
If you use it regularly, keep it for more than one month, or use it for
presentation to a group, I would enjoy getting a little something for it.
If you feel so obliged, you may send the payment to the address included
with the program. If you desire support, please send your e-mail address
along, and I will write back. This program is free for all users who have
registered a previous version of it.

Release 1.2 of CP290 Director has a new lower shareware price ($10). CP290
Director is Macintosh software that controls the original X10 home
automation computer controlled interface, model number CP290. It completely
replaces the Macintosh software that comes with the CP290, and has unique
features not found in other Macintosh-based CP290 controllers such as

CP290 Director does not have to be running at all times to control the

later execution. In addition to the standard CP290 features, CP290
Director supports the following additional features: 1) the ability to
specify that an event is to occur at sunrise or sunset (plus or minus a
specified time interval); 2) the ability to specify a specific date on
which an event is to occur, and optionally the interval in days thereafter

Announcing the release of MiniCalendar 2.1. MiniCalendar is your
ordinary Kaleidoscope savvy system calendar. Its main goal is to
provide the user with a basic calendar for any month between January
1582 and December 29940.
MiniCalendar is not designed to replace full function date books,
rather it is designed to complement such programs. Programs such as
Claris Organizer or Now Up-To-Date excel at managing appointments and
dates, but are clumsy when it comes to looking up what day your
birthday is going to fall on next year. MiniCalendar fills this niche
nicely. Since MiniCalendar is small and easy enough to use, you will
want to leave it running so you will always have access to a calendar.
As you'd expect from Catara, MiniCalendar is robust, 100% PowerPC native,
easy to use, and efficient. For $5 shareware, it makes a nice addition to
MacOS 8.x.
Who will use MiniCalendar?
- Users who need to look up dates, but do not need a full scale date
book
- Kaleidoscope / Aaron users who want a more unified system appearance
- Users who want to show off to their PC friends that the Mac is not
only year

Version 1.5.5 uses new print routines for improved compatibility with a

A little AppleScript, uncompiled so as to make editing easier, that
puts the text line "File modified by GraphicConverter 3.3.1(US) into
that application's Comments window.
Requirements: AppleScript 1.1 or better, the Auto-Type and Jon's
Commands osaxen (available on Info-Mac).
This script requires that the Comments window in GraphicConverter be
open and that the application dialog windows be pointed to an
unlocked volume (as the changed-file bullet will automatically appear).
You can use the ScriptEditor to change the version

I also recommend OSA Menu by Leonard Rosenthal, as it makes running
this script with GKON as the front app a lot easier.

#### BINHEX mac-onscreen-demo.hqx ****
From: estes@onscreen-sci.com
Subject: OnScreen-Particle-Demo.sit.hqx
OnScreen Particle Physics simulates a particle-detection chamber, the
device used by researchers at facilities such as Fermilab. By enabling
students to carry out simulated experiments, it presents modern physics
as a human activity, not just a set of facts. The software is mainly
aimed at teachers wanting to teach modern physics from a "how we know"
perspective, but it is well suited to individual study. No advanced
mathematics required. A particle chamber appears on the screen in 3D
perspective. Particle decay events, generated in accordance with the real
physics, appear as charged-particle tracks, curved by the simulated
magnetic field. Users can rotate the chamber to view tracks from
different perspectives and can re-play the event, thus obtaining a vivid
picture of it. On-screen tools allow users to solve the puzzle of
particle identification exactly as real particle physicists do.
Trackmaker, a gamelike, interactive simulation of the motion of a charged
particle in a magnetic field is included. This demo version limits user
to a single particle event to observe and analyze, but the toolset its
complete. Trackmaker is limited to three particles per session. Runs on
any Mac with 68020 or greater and system 7.0 or greater.

#### BINHEX glm-stat-322.hqx ****
From: kjbeath@kagi.com
Subject: GLMStat 3.2.2;Generalised linear models
GLMStat is a Macintosh-based statistical program for analysing generalised
linear models.
It provides a macintosh interface but otherwise operates in a similar
fashion to GLIM but with less features (most of which you probably won't
miss). Features of GLMStat are
- spreadsheet style data entry
- Normal, Poisson, Binomial and Gamma models with appropriate links and
specification of convergence and aliasing parameters
- Scatter and Residual plots
- Matrix scatterplots
- Box and Whisker plots
- Frequency distribution histograms
- Descriptive statistics.
- Output of deviance, parameter estimates, residuals and parameter
correlations
- Saving of data files complete with all model specifications.
- printing of data, graph and results.
- Online Help (under the apple menu) and a brief User Manual.
- includes example data files for most examples in two of the texts.
- Installer for PowerPC, 68K or FAT binary versions
- Individual licences available for $US20. Site licences $US150. World
site licence $US450. Payment in $US through Kagi Shareware.
- Registration includes free upgrades to version 4.x
Unregistered copies are fully functional except that Save and Save As are
disabled.
This release
Version 3.2.2
- fixed bug which caused error in Test command when rows are excluded
Version 3.2.1
- fixes a bug that caused incorrect calculation of deviances in the Test
and Effects commands when a Poisson model has degrees of freedom corrected
due to empty cells
Version 3.2.0
- Effect test (ie calculate test for change in deviance from removing top
level terms from model
- Residual Statistics - Runs Test, Durbin-Watson, Shapiro-Wilk.
- allow display of title as Sum of Squares instead of Deviance for Normal
models
- able to include or exclude a row or rows from an analysis
- much of the changes have been made to allow missing values
- removed Show All command for Graphs. Points within the current subset only
will be shown. Points with weight=0 will return missing for residuals.
- allowed saving of contents of Graph and Results windows as files
- when an observation is weighted out the residual will now be shown as
missing - for standardised residuals if the leverage is one or the scale is
zero the residual will also be shown as missing
- fixed some cosmetic problems
- changed "Scale and Test" to "Scale estimated using" in Define dialog and
Test now performed only using Deviance but with scale estimated by Pearson
Chi-sq if required
- degrees of freedom are now correctly calculated for Poisson models with
empty cells ie if the marginal sum for an estimate is zero so the fitted
value will be zero and the actual value is zero (which it will be if the
marginal sum is zero) then the observation is removed from the data set.
- reduced maximum allowed rows to 16000

From: madrau@kagi.com
Subject: SwitchRes 1.5.2

Subject: Desktop Screenshots 1.0
The Mac has always had the ability to capture the screen to a picture
file via COMMAND-SHIFT-3 and with System 8 also via COMMAND-SHIFT-4. They
work great but have the annoying habit of saving the screenshots at the
top level of the hard drive. With a little research I discovered that
there is in fact a way to specify where the pictures are saved and thus
was born Desktop Screenshots. A tiny extension that redirects those
picture files right to the desktop for easy access.
Desktop Screenshots uses an undocumented feature of the standard system
screen capture code. This feature appears to be available starting with
at least System 7.6.1. Earlier system versions might work too but I
haven't tested them. No system software modifications are made so it
won't hurt anything to try it out, it will either work or not.
Desktop Screenshots is FREEWARE (share and enjoy.)
