I N T R O D U C T I O N Yet another guide for an entirely new FAQ writing experience for me, Silent Hill has always been in my game collection. Back in the year (late 90's), I was enjoying the first installment, and look how far Konami has traveled now. This is the fourth in the series. Silent Hill 4: The Room, has all the new features you would not want to miss. Reading reviews is another thing, playing and enjoying (getting freaked out) the game is another story. This is the first ever FAQ I'm writing for the Silent Hill series, and since they're a few good complete walkthroughs for the game already, I chose to write a short, brief Weapons FAQ for this game. I love this game. I got it immediately when the game was released in my area. None of my friends ever play this game. Makes you wonder why. The only reason is that they personally don't like horror games. Right now, I cannot find any reason to resist a horror experience this good. Resident Evil is good, but Silent Hill has always been the best one for me. Also, please don't confuse Survival Horror and Horror. Well, they're basically the same, but for all we know Silent Hill enemies aren't zombies. They're monsters, ghosts, etc. This time around, you get control of a male character yet again (we've seen Harry Mason, James Sunderland, Heather Mason, and now...), Henry Townshend. He is quite a little shy guy I might add. His perspective of life and the outside world is really interesting, but has the colors of its own. I don't need to explain too much; by the time you start a new game for five minutes, you'll get what I'll be saying later. I suggest you concentrate on the storyline and enjoy the game. It is very much different from others in the series. Now, this guide will give you a short, brief explanation on the weapons in the game, from A to Z. More will be explained when we get to the main section. For now, take your time and browse though the FAQ. Remember this FAQ is mainly about the weapons, so if you're looking for item locations, enemy lists and so on, you might want to check the Silent Hill 4: The Room main FAQ page. ____ ______ - -__ _- - -- ___ - _ -_ _- __ - __________ - II. M A I N - W E A P O N S L I S T & I N F O This is the main section. It includes the weapons used by Henry & Eileen, for now. The locations will also be displayed, and if you need to actually get it, I'll state exactly how, but of course, I won't give you the complete walkthrough. The weapons are listed in alphabetical order (numbers begin first, followed by letters), and the description is based on the game when you press the select button to view it. Let's begin. ___-___ - - ____ - A. Henry's Weapons ___-___ - - ____ - [ 3-Iron ] Location: Building World 2nd Time, held by a Gum Head in the Gum Head Arena. Description: 'Golf club. Powerful and easy to use, but it looks like it could break easily'. This is, as you might or might not know is one of the 12 golf clubs you can find and use as a weapon in the game. They all work and act as the same, and when they're used frequently, they'll eventually break and become useless weapons. This means that if you keep on using them and bashing enemies with them, later on, they'll break and you cannot use them any longer. Their attacks are much stronger than that of a steel pipe (which you find at the start of the game), but overall, they're quite useless. Make sure you keep them inside the storage box whenever they're broken (they'll take your inventory space). Some of them are equipped by enemies. You will notice the change of the item in your inventory (they'll be a little bent) whenever they cannot be used anymore. [[(( Info on Gum Heads ))]] Gun Heads are available in two deformed types. There's a normal Gum Head and there's a Mutated, or a new type. The normal Gun Head usually appears more often in the Building World. They are deformed monkeys which can really get on your nerves. They carry Golf Clubs in some areas and will use it without a doubt. They can steal weapons from you, but you can of course get them back by killing them. They make a monkey-like noise whenever they're present. The new-type tends to be more aggressive than the old-type. Most of the Golf Clubs can be found with them; because they use these weapons. You can easily kill them by stomping on them (knock them down first), and then you can grab the weapon they use. Quite simple. Also, be careful when there are a number of them in an area. They can easily bash you and you can not make a move. [ 3-Wood ] Location: Building World 2nd Time, in Albert's Sports Store on the floor (B5). You will notice the change of the item in your inventory (they'll be a little bent) whenever they cannot be used anymore. [ 4-Iron ] Location: Hospital World, 2nd Floor on the ground (in one of the rooms). [ 6-Iron ] Location: Forest World, Southeastern Dead End, lying on the ground. [ 7-Iron ] Location: Building World 2nd Time, held by a Gum Head in the Gum Head Arena. Description: 'Golf club. Powerful and easy to use, but it looks like it could break easily'. This is, as you might or might not know is one of the 12 golf clubs you can find and use as a weapon in the game. [ 8-Iron ] Location: Building World 2nd Time, held by a Gum Head in the Gum Head Arena. Description: 'Golf club. Powerful and easy to use, but it looks like it could break easily'. This is, as you might or might not know is one of the 12 golf clubs you can find and use as a weapon in the game. You will notice the change of the item in your inventory (they'll be a little bent) whenever they cannot be used anymore. [ 9-Iron ] Location: Subway World, situated on the subway car in King Street Line (B4). Make sure you keep them inside the storage box whenever they're broken (they'll take your inventory space). Some of them are equipped by enemies. You will notice the change of the item in your inventory (they'll be a little bent) whenever they cannot be used anymore. [ Aluminum Bat ] Location: Building World, in Albert's Sports Store (B5). Description: 'Aluminum alloy bat. Reasonably powerful and easy to use a as a weapon'. One of my favorite weapons, the Aluminum Bat has attacks similar to the Steel Pipe & Golf Clubs, and it is almost as powerful as the Golf Clubs. The advantage of the Aluminum Bat is that it will not break like the Golf Clubs. You can use it for as long as you want. Since it's a little heavy for Henry to manage, Henry tends to be slower with it when he attacks but it causes good damage to the enemies. I'd recommend you using it after you're done with the Steel Pipe, but don't hesitate to switch weapons when you get a good one like the Rusty Axe. The Aluminum Bat has a combo attack too. [ Broken Wine Bottle ] Location: Not available (use the wine bottle until it breaks). Description: 'Bottle of white wine from the refrigerator. Now that it's broken, it's even more dangerous as a weapon'. Not a good weapon against most of the enemies. It is a little bit better than the wine bottle before it was broken, but still though, it does not have a combo attack. You cannot charge your attack as well. I would say that you keep using the Steel Pipe for the quarter of the game until you find the Aluminum Bat or any of the Golf Clubs (though they break eventually). The Broken Wine Bottle has a stabbing attack, but Henry has to be in a close- combat range, which is dangerous and difficult. Forget about using it if you prefer not to. [ Bug Spray ] Location: Apartment World, lying on the ground in Room 203 (in the main room). Description: 'Aerosol insecticide. Effective against certain enemies'. The Bug Spray is effective against the Hummers. Aiming at a group of them would knock them down and then you can stomp on them (circle button). Hummers are annoying creatures. So if you're too lazy to stay in a spot, swing your weapon around or take out a gun and waste your bullets, you'd want to keep the Bug Spray and kill them with it easier. Other than this, the Bug Spray is indeed, useless. [[(( Info on Hummers ))]] Hummers are bat like creatures that fly around in certain levels in the game. Usually they appear in groups or numbers. They are weak and will drop down (still alive) on the ground, and if you take too long to stomp on them, they'll wake up and start to attack you again. The Bug Spray is an effective weapon to use on them. Other weapons would work, including the firearms but that would be a waste now wouldn't it? It doesn't matter what you use against them; whether the Steel Pipe, the Rusty Axe, The Aluminum Bat, or even the Spade, you have to stomp on them fast before they wake back up. You can choose to hit them when they're lying on the ground, but that would consume your time. [ Chainsaw ] Location: Forest World, at the area with the car stuck to a tree. Note: Available ONLY is a Brand New Fear game. Description: 'Originally made for cutting wood. As a weapon, it's a fearsome thing'. The Chainsaw of course reminds me of Evil Dead. Even there though, it sucked. Here, I cannot quite describe since it depends on how you manage it. It's heavy, and heavy weapons causes Henry to react slowly. This is the case when using the Chainsaw. Speed. If you really like it, you'd be upset with the charging attack. First of all, it is not very powerful like it is designed to look like. It looks good, but the attack and damage it causes is not really impressive. In fact, some other weapon's charge attacks are much better and faster. It is a satisfaction getting it, and suing it for yourself, but equipping it together with you along the game? I'm afraid not. The only thing is that while having the Chainsaw equipped you'll get a nice stomp animation. It's a little different than other weapons available. [[(( Info on Brand New Fear Game & Unlocking the Chainsaw ))]] A Brand New Fear game is unlocked when you beat the game once with any difficulty, and start a new game with the save file marked 'Brand New Fear'. The text is usually highlighted with a yellow color (this can change depending on what type of game completion you acquired). The Chainsaw however, is another hidden weapon. It does not require a huge task like the Submachine Gun. You only need to complete the game once on any difficulty level, and you will find it on your next play through (replaying the game on the same save file - Brand New Fear Game). You can find it in the area where Jasper Gein's car is at, stuck to a tree, in Forest World First Time. Not tough isn't it? The Chainsaw has an idle animation to it when you let Henry stand with it, with the Chainsaw equipped of course. [ Driver ] Location: Building World 2nd Time, beside the hole, Entrance Alleyway (B1). [ Paper-Cutting Knife ] Location: Hospital World, 1st Floor Office on the desk in one of the rooms. Description: 'Originally made for cutting paper. It's hard to use as a weapon'. Why use a weapon so difficult and dangerous (which has a short range attack) when you already have better weapons this far? The Paper-Cutting Knife is horrible, and could be worst. The Wine Bottle could probably be leveled together with this one. However, it has a three combo attack, and a fast charge attack, which has nothing special to it. Since you don't need it, if you've taken it, keep it in the storage box. It is just plain useless, and not powerful. [ Pickaxe of Despair ] Location: Forest World 2nd Time, at the Coal Mine. Description: 'Ordinary pickaxe from a construction site. "Despair" is written on the handle. Very powerful'. The most powerful weapon in the game. The Pickaxe of Despair is very slow with its attacks, not to mention the charge attack as well. However, you should probably just take it with you, since it could be handy at times where you need to bash monsters head open. :D [ Pistol ] Location: Room 302, situated behind the cabinet which can only be moved after returning from Subway World for the first time. It's lying on the floor. Description: 'Easy-to-use handgun, but not much stopping power'. This is your first firearm in the game. Majority of weapons in the game are not firearms, and you'll find it difficult to carry bullets in your inventory. You don't have much space, you can't afford going back into the hole over and over again to the inventory box, and you're run out of ammo eventually. I would suggest that you be careful all times with the amount of bullets you carry, and try to bring at least one melee weapon (Steel Pipe, Rusty Axe, Aluminum Bat, etc) so that you can kill any normal enemies like the hummers and toadstools/whitestools without wasting your bullets. The Pistol is accurate at most times. It can be used with the Pistol Bullets and also the Silver Bullets. One of the advantages is that it fires fairly fast, and it would be useful for those annoying monsters. You have a very limited amount of Pistol Bullets to carry, but that depends on the difficulty. [[(( Info On Pistol Magazines ))]] Depending on the difficulty of the game, you can carry different amount of Pistol Magazines, which the more, the better since you can bring more with you. Here's the list: Easy Difficulty - 12 Rounds of Pistol Magazines. Normal Difficulty - 10 Rounds of Pistol Magazines. Hard Difficulty - 8 Rounds of Pistol Magazines. [ Pistol Bullets ] Locations (not in order, but listed according to levels): - Subway World, Lynch Street Line, Maintenance Room (B3). - Subway World, on stairs (B2), blocked stairway passage. - Subway World, King Street, southwest stairs (B1). - Subway World, at the blocked tunnel between the lines at passage between lines (B2). - Forest World, South Industrial Compound, at the bottom ramps, on the floor. - Water Prison World, one of the northeastern cells on 1st Floor. - Water Prison World, one of the northeastern cells on 3rd Floor. - Building World, near a fence, Exterior Elevator Excess (B12). - Building World, Storage Room (B5) on the shelf. - Apartment World, in the bedroom (on the ground), 3rd Floor, Room 304. - Apartment World, on the kitchen counter, First Floor, Room 101. - Hospital World, Wheelchair Hallway, one of the random rooms, 2nd Floor. - Hospital World, Wheelchair Hallway, one of the random rooms with "skin" bed (the bullets are near the bed, on the floor), 2nd Floor. - Subway World 2nd Time, on the bench, Lynch Street Line. - Forest World 2nd Time, eastern part of the Coal Mine area. - Water Prison World 2nd Time, one of the southwest cells on 3rd Floor. - Water Prison World 2nd Time, Shower Room (B1). - Water Prison World 2nd Time, one of the northeast cells on 1st Floor. - Water Prison World 2nd Time, one of the southeast cells on 1st Floor. - Water Prison World 2nd Time, one of the southeast cells on 2nd Floor. - Building World 2nd Time, on one of the shelves in the Pet Shop (B7). - Building World 2nd Time, south side of Clock Room. - Outside Room 302, Stairway & Main Hall (2nd and 3rd Floors), opposite the twin doors leading to the 3rd Floor hallway. - Outside Room 302, in the bedroom, Room 207, 2nd Floor. - Outside Room 302, in the back room area, Room 101, 1st Floor. Description: 'Small-diameter bullets for use in the "Pistol." Not very powerful'. The Pistol Bullets can be loaded with your Pistol only and not with the Revolver. However, your Pistol CAN be loaded with the Silver Bullets. [[(( Info on Pistol Ammo ))]] The bullets for each pickup vary depending on your difficulty. Here's the list: Easy Difficulty - 12 Rounds for a pickup. Normal Difficulty - 10 Rounds for a pickup. Hard Difficulty - 8 Rounds for a pickup. [ Pitching Wedge ] Location: Building World, Water Tower, Exterior Area (B12), held by an evolved Gum Head. [ Putter ] Location: Apartment World, in the bedroom, Room 207, 2nd Floor. [ Richard's Revolver ] Location: Apartment World, on a chair, main room area, Room 207, 2nd Floor. Description: 'Holds a maximum of six bullets. Easy to use, with moderate stopping power'. Overall the revolver is a little better, in terms of the damage it cause, and the power of it. It uses the Revolver Bullets. The only disadvantage is that it can only hold a maximum of six bullets, which is a difficulty. You could easily run out of ammo. Besides, finding the ammo is also another difficulty. The amount of Revolver Bullets in this game is very limited, but the power is a little bit better than the Pistol Bullets. Perhaps a little bit powerful. It can knock down normal enemies with one shot sometimes, so it would be useful. [ Revolver Bullets ] Locations: - Hospital World, the room with the wheel chair, on a desk, behind the chair, 2nd Floor. - Forest World 2nd Time, Toluka Lake area, on the ground. - Building World 2nd Time, at the very end of the Interior Hallway (B8), where the Spade was on the first visit. - Building World 2ns Time, on the roof of a car, top of the Hotel South Ashfeild (B1, B2, B3). - Outside Room 302, on a coffee table, Room 303, on 3rd Floor. Description: 'Large-diameter bullets for use in "Richard's Revolver." Reasonably powerful'. The bullet which can only be loaded into Richard's Revolver. It comes in six, from each pickup regardless the difficulty. [ Rusty Axe ] Location: Building World, on the bar table, Bar Southfield (B15). Description: 'One-handed axe. A little short, but powerful and easy to handle'. My favorite weapon, which I use the most on my first play through. It has a short range attack, as the description said. Its charge attack is wonderful seeing how you'll be invulnerable to attacks for a short while when Henry swings the axe to the front. It has a single hit swing, which is fairly fast, but not quite, but the charge attack really send enemies to the ground, but maybe not for long, especially with the Gum Head new-type. Overall it's really useful when you're ready to let go of the Steel Pipe, or the Aluminum Bat, perhaps even use it until the end of the game after acquiring it. This has been the most useful weapon when it comes to battling enemies which aren't annoying, but you might want a weapon which is a little fast when dealing with enemies which are quick on their feet. [ Sand Wedge ] Location: Building World 2nd Time, held by a Gum Head in the Gum Head Arena (B10). [ Silver Bullets ] Locations: - Subway World 2nd Time, southeast stairs, King Street Side Entryway. - Forest World 2nd Time, area with the weird tree. Description: 'Special bullets effective against ghosts. Small diameter. Best used with "Pistol"'. The best bullets for knocking down immortal enemies (ghosts). There is no Shotgun ammo this time, but Silver Bullets are rare bullets, and they're good enough. It can be used with the Pistol and effective against the ghosts so that you can knock them down with only one shot and then you can easily pin them in place using the Sword of Obedience. The Silver Bullet has the same power as an ordinary bullet against non-ghost enemies, so it will be a waste to use against them. Use these when you really need to, against ghosts enemies of course. For each pickup, there's a total of one bullet, even on Easy difficulty. They're all the same, so make sure you DON'T waste the ammo. Keep it in the box and bring the bullets with you when necessary. [[(( Info on Ghosts ))]] Ghosts are enemies which cannot be killed with weapons. They float on air and will cause a dizzy atmosphere for Henry whenever they're present closely to him (and soon will drain his life bar). It doesn't matter what weapons are used against them; melee, even firearms, they cannot die. The best thing to do is to avoid them temporary (because they usually lurk around the same area, or hunt you in other areas), or knock them down, and stuck them in place if you have the Sword of Obedience. You can knock one easily using the Pistol loaded with a Silver Bullet. This way, you can pin them easier, and I believe, faster. [ Spade ] Location: Building World, at the very end of the Interior Hallway B (B8). Description: 'Ordinary spade from a construction site. It looks like it would be an impressive weapon'. It is quite an impressive weapon after all. The Spade has a powerful attack, probably a little bit better than the Rusty Axe, but much slower on normal hits. Its charge attack is quite fast, with moderate power and it's possible for it to hit multiple enemies in one, charged attack. While having this equipped, you'll have a different stomp move. This can replace the Aluminum Bat or the Rusty Axe anytime, but I still do prefer the Rusty Axe for some reasons of my own. [ Steel Pipe ] Location: Room 302, stuck at the hole in bathroom, at beginning of game, upon entering. Description: '3-foot-long sewer pipe. Not very powerful, but fairly easy to use'. The first best weapon you get. Not the best as you think it would be, but you have no choice but to use this, or one of the Golf Clubs when you finally get it. It's wise to use this, since it has a three combo hit attack, which Henry swings around. It has a charge attack as well, which is fast compared to other heavier weapons, and the best thing is that, it won't break like the Golf Clubs. Keep this in your inventory until you find the Aluminum Bat or something better. [ Stun Gun ] Location: Water Prison World. It's hidden, though there aren't any special requirements getting it. It is, inside a locked room on the second floor with a hole in it. Getting it requires some work. Get to the control room. All you have to do is align the room on the third floor (using the valve) with the hole, together with the room on the second floor with the hole on a straight line. Then, you must make your way to the third floor and find the room with the hole. Jumping down the hole leads to the locked room with the Stun Gun on the desk in the room. You can obtain the Stun Gun in any difficulty level. Description: 'High-voltage stun device. Fairly short-ranged, due to its need for direct contact'. A good weapon for the game. It can knock down mortal enemies in one hit. It's slow though, so watch out. Use it when the timing is right. It does not have a charge attack, but it is useful for the Gum Heads so you can easily stomp them after hitting them with the Stun Gun. [ Torch ] Location: Forest World 2nd Time, area with the brazier, Cemetery. Description: 'Equip-able item. The tip can be lit on fire to light up dark areas. Soak the torch in oil to make it last even longer'. There's no point of using this as a weapon, since by the time you get to the Forest World on the second visit, you have other better weapons to use. You however need this for a certain task in the game, so you have to take the Torch. As the description says, you can soak the Torch with oil. Simply go to the Laundry Room in Room 302, look at the bottle containing the oil on the left side of the hole (facing it), and while having it equip, use it. This will make the fire of the Torch last longer. The Torch is a clone of the Steel Pipe. It has a three combo hit, similar to the Steel Pipe too. However, it's short in length, making it quite difficult and risky fighting enemies in the future with it. [ Wine Bottle ] Location: Room 302, kitchen area, inside the refrigerator. Description: 'Bottle of white wine from the refrigerator. It'll break eventually if I keep using it as a weapon'. Using the Wine Bottle is as the same as using the Paper-Cutting Knife. Simply useless, without any real fighting tool characteristic to it. Using it frequently will replace it with a new weapon called the Broken Wine Bottle, which is of course, simply ore useless. ____-___ - - ____ - B. Eileen's Weapons ____-___ - - ____ - NOTE: Eileen's weapons are controlled by Henry, and you would notice the small 'E' on any of the weapon which has 'Eileen-only Weapon' written on the screen when you view the description. Use the square button to change Eileen's weapon state to 'Equipped' or 'Unequipped'. The weapons are listed in order of which appears first. [ Eileen's Bag ] Location: Hospital World, southern part of the 1st Floor Lobby. Description: 'Eileen's handbag. Looks like it could cause a little bit of damage'. Eileen's first weapon you can let her use. She would be pretty (well, quite) useless with this equipped, but she could protect herself rather than standing there getting serious whacking. She would help you and sometimes get herself into trouble. Change this immediately whenever you find something better for her. [ Riding Crop ] Location: Subway World 2nd Time, around the wreckage in the area, Passage between Lines. Description: 'Light and easy to use with good reach. It looks like it would be very painful'. This weapon would protect her better than the handbag. She would be a little bit more aggressive than she is with the handbag equipped, but this would be better for her, but not for long. Try your best to find something better to replace this weapon. [ Chain ] Location: Forest World 2nd Time, at the area where the Wish House was burned, at the playground equipment, Northeast of the area. Description: 'Light and easy to use. One snap could cause a lot of damage'. Eileen will get more aggressive with this weapon compared to the Riding Crop. This is indeed a much better weapon, so toss her previous weapons in the Storage Box and equip this for her if you have it. It's good, but of course there are better ones later on. The Chain has a better range and slightly a bit more powerful. The sounds when the chain hit an enemy would give a good feeling that it works well for Eileen. [ Nightstick ] Location: Water Prison World 2nd Time, Surveillance Room, 3rd Floor. Description: 'Lead-weighted, leather nightstick. Does not require much force to cause damage. Looks extremely painful'. It's her best melee weapon you can get for her, and it is easy to find. Try getting this weapon for her since it is a lot better than the Chain. It has a much more power compared to the Chain (probably just slightly more), and it is easy for her to manage. It has a moderate length, so it's overall a perfect melee weapon for her, unless you have the Submachine Gun. [ Submachine Gun ] Location: Apartment World, on kitchen counter, Room 102, 1st Floor (appears in Brand New Fear Game only). Description: 'Small-sized, one-handed machine gun. Perfect for Eileen'. Eileen best weapon overall. This is her only firearm weapon and it is deadly, with it having unlimited ammunition! Henry does not have one in the game, but you can get this for her. She has a good aim while having this equipped, and built in burst fire mode. Once you have this unlocked, you do not have to worry about her, nor have you to worry about all of her other weapons. Toss them in the Storage Box, and there you go. [[(( Info on Unlocking the Submachine Gun ))]] The Submachine Gun appears only in a Brand New Fear Game, and you have to unlock it. Unlocking it is not an easy task. You have to get a ranking of [9 BIG STARS] in a previous game. Then, save the game file into a save slot after the ranking screen, and load that save file to be able to get the weapon on your next play through. You MUST play through this save file/slot, which is a Brand New Fear Game. The weapon DOES NOT appear in 'One Weapon Mode'. When you have reached the Apartment World First Time on the same save file (with it being a Brand New Fear game), go to the Room 102, First Floor. The weapon is on the kitchen counter. Note that this is the same room where there's a cat in the fridge. Once you obtain this, and saving it later when you complete the game on the same save file, you can find it back there no matter what ranking you get that time. You just need to unlock this once with a 9 Big Star Ranking. Now that concludes the main section.
