***** R - L - H ***** -------------------------------------------- "Run Like Hell" BOSSFAQ v.1.0 by NAUTHIZ -------------------------------------------- You are free to distribute and/or copy this file as you see fit. It's original and most recent version is only posted at Gamefaqs. -------------------------------------------- Nickname: Nauthiz Email: the_true_nauthiz@hotmail.com Completion: 16-05-2005 -------------------------------------------- Questions & Answers: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Why start a Bossfaq for Run Like Hell? A: Because there's no extensive Bossfaq for this game yet. Q: Isn't that because this game stinks? A: No. It's just intensely impopulair. In fact, I think it's better then Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, and has good and bad moments. Q: Does your FAQ contain spoilers? A: Yes, but only a few, mainly the name of the second last boss... Q: How do I prepare for a boss fight in RLH? A: Upgrade your weapons, have at least 5 health packs in your inventory and refresh your shield at a shield regenerator. Extra healthpacks are very usefull if you have trouble dodging. Q: I still can't beat a boss!!! Not even with the help of this guide. A: Take a deep breath and keep trying if you fail. Q: You use the word 'Backup' throughout your FAQ. What is 'Backup'? A: Backup is the type of general enemy you will also encounter during the bossfight. Their types can be found in Slothrop37's Walkthrough, though he uses the name 'Scouts' where I use the name 'Drones'. Q: Why did you include the two puzzles with the Brutes in this guide? They aren't real bosses at all! A: I know. But they aren't regular enemies too. I'd like to see them as puzzle-mini-bosses, so they deserve to be included. I could also lively imagine that someone might visit my guide because of them. Q: Can I e-mail you about your guide? A: If you find something in this guide that's incorrect or incomplete, sure. I'm not answering to everything though (I have a life). Q: Who do you wish to thank or give credit to? A: Slothrop37 for writing the RLH walkthrough, that helped me a lot with some details on killing the Brutes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ### OVERVIEW ### *** Spoilers Below *** Boss 1: Brute #1 Boss 2: Cutter Ambush Boss 3: Drone Spawn Boss 4: Super Cutter #1 Boss 5: Super Cutter #2 Boss 6: Brute #2 Boss 7: Amalgamator Boss 8: Spin Super Cutter Boss 9: Bio-construct 'Bull' Boss 10: Bio-construct 'Niles' Boss 12: Final Boss ------------------------------ Boss 1: Brute #1 ------------------------------ Difficulty: puzzle ------------------------------ Attacks: Instant Kill. Backup: None. This not exactly a boss, but more of a lethal puzzle. This Brute cannot be killed with the guns provided this early in the game. Yet, there is a way to destroy him. Actually, it's pretty easy. After the cutscene you can see the Brute walk futher down the hallway, just follow him and make a right corner. Here you will find a door wich is locked from the inside, and a large metal door into some experimental room with a gravity generator of some sort. Enter this door, head past the generator, and open the door on the far side. Here you will find the generator's control panel and a control panel for a robot. You'll find a grav lab key here as well. From this room you can open another small door leading back into the hallway. Enter this room, walk forward and take a shot at the Brute. Run back like hell, it's coming for you now! Quickly enter the door, and activate the robot. While controlling it, enter the generator room and cross it. Open the door and let the Brute see you. He will follow the robot into the generator room. Disengage the robot, and use the generator control panel. You'll have to do a minigame to reset the wavelength, do this right and -SPLAT- no more Brute! If you have the blowtorch and blowtorch fuel, you can combine it on the robot. This way you can agitate (attack) the Brute with the robot itself, wich is less risky off course (credit for this knowledge goes to Slothrop37). ------------------------------ Boss 2: Cutter Ambush ------------------------------ Difficulty: very easy ------------------------------ Attacks: Slash. Backup: None. This boss-battle is pretty straightforward. After you enter the door and music starts playing, you'll have to kill about two dozen Cutters in a relatively small space. Stay out of range, fire like crazy, and heal when you need to. There are 4 healthpacks, each in one corner of the room. The battle ends after all Cutters have been destroyed, so it's basicly an exercise in fighting Cutters in close assault. ------------------------------ Boss 3: Drone Spawn ------------------------------ Difficulty: medium ------------------------------ Attacks: Spawn, Pierce. Backup: Drones. This boss is the source of the normal Drones, and has a few nasty tricks of his own. He is vulnerable only while spawning smaller Drones, so try to take them out as fast as possible to force him to spawn. While he is spawning keep at a distance and dodge if neccesary. He also has an attack in wich he uses his blades as a piercing weapon. This is the deadliest attack he can deliver, and will take a huge chuck out of your life or kill you outright. Keep an eye on him and dodge these attacks, while firing at him when he spawns Drones. ------------------------------ Boss 4: Super Cutter #1 ------------------------------ Difficulty: medium ------------------------------ Attacks: Slash, Acid Spit. Backup: Drones. This is the first Super Cutter you will encounter. He'll slash at you, so dodge his pysical attacks while keeping on the move. Fire whenever possible, untill his health is down to about a third. In his next phase the Super Cutter will jump up to one of two pedestals, where he will be invincible. From this point he will spit yellow alien crap (acid?) which does a considerable amount of damage, so avoid getting hit. Pods will start dropping from the ceiling, so watch for their shadows and keep on the move. From the pods Drones will erupt, so shoot them and concentrate on the Super Cutter again. If you need health during this battle, you can find trunks and bodies in the four corners of the room. One of these also holds the passcode necessary to leave the room. ------------------------------ Boss 5: Super Cutter #2 ------------------------------ Difficulty: hard ------------------------------ Attacks: Slash / Acid Spit. Backup: Drones, Cutters. At the start of battle this boss will rampage at you. Walk away from him while firing you guns. He wil slash at you (dodge this) and his pace will be slow down. Dodge the slashing attacks and keep firing in between dodges. After a short while he will roar and make his way across the room, you will not be able to hit him for a few seconds. Drones will enter from the room, but don't kill them! After you killed a Drone it will respawn, but after a certain point the boss will call on Cutters as a back-up and you don't want that, since you can't outrun them, let alone out-strafe them. You'd better lock on to the boss only and shoot him while strafing. When he makes a certain noise he will spit acid, wich does a lot of damage and severely damages your shield. If you get hit you can refresh your shield with one of the two terminals at the walls, these can be used two times each in this battle. It's up to you to either dodge this or start running in a circle when you hear the sound. I'd advise running since the acid will leave a stain on the floor if it misses you, wich can get you dead, stuck or completely shieldless. Off course you'll have to lock on to him again wich takes time, so it's your decision really. Don't let the Drones get to you either, this boss can be frustrating if you get stuck between the Drones and get blasted by acid because of it. After you kill the Super Cutter a cutscene will play. ------------------------------ Boss 6: Brute #2 ------------------------------ Difficulty: puzzle ------------------------------ Attacks: Instant Kill. Backup: None. Again, more of a puzzle then a boss fight. You will need a Lower Maintenance Section Card, three chemical tanks and three detonators to solve it. They can be found in a locker on the same floor as the Brute. After the cutscene where the Amalgamator calls Drones to the attack, kill these and take the left elevator. The chemical tanks and detonators need to be combined into three explosives, wich can be mounted on a robot. Bring it up with the control panel, and select the 'use item' command on the bomb while you are in front of the robot. Take control of it, use the elevator to get it down to the main floor and drive over to the Brute. Press 'O' to detonate the bomb. If you fail bring up another robot and try again. You have three explosives, that means you have three tries to blow up the Brute. All Brutes you encounter after this one need to be destroyed by either a very strong weapon such as Crossbow Explosives or by luring them into a trap (making them run into an exploding barrel for example). ------------------------------ Boss 7: Amalgamator ------------------------------ Difficulty: very easy ------------------------------ Attacks: None. Backup: None. The Amalgamator is some kind of leader among the Race. It doesn't have a combat role so it doesn't attack you. Instead of gunning it down on first sight (which results in a Game Over) freeze it with the Nitrogen Blaster. ------------------------------ Boss 8: Spin Super Cutter ------------------------------ Difficulty: easy ------------------------------ Attacks: Slash, Spin Slash, Acid Spread. Backup: Drones. This boss will also slash at you, but his attacks are easier to avoid. Dodge and shoot him in the same way as Super Cutter #2. When you see him spinning, he's preparing for an all out spinning attack. You can shoot him while he remains in one spot, but he'll spin right at you after that. These attacks knock you down, but by running around the room you can avoid them. Since this battle is very movement-intensive, it's not advised to kill his Drone backup. Concentrate on the boss' position instead. After you knock off half his health, you may notice some green gass emitting from him while he spins around. This indicates he will use his projectile attack, consisting of yellow balls (acid?) wich are fired in a circulair fashion. These aren't very accurate so try to dodge it and keep blasting him. This battle is quite easy, as the Spin Cutter only has a few attacks at his disposal so it shouldn't take long before this boss collapses to the ground. ------------------------------ Boss 9: Bio-construct 'Bull' ------------------------------ Difficulty: medium ------------------------------ Attacks: Trample. Backup: Acidic Drones. This boss has a very simplictic pattern and only one phase. The construct will be running back and forth, trying to ram you with it's tusks. After it has passed it will briefly pause, and run up to you again. The only thing you can do here is dodge out of the way and keep firing. Your timing has to be top notch though, he'll adapt his run to your position untill he has either hit or missed you. During the fight Acidic Drones appear in the background. I suggest you ignore them and work your way back (from the direction you are facing at the start of battle) while firing at the bio-construct. The drones will not catch up with you, so just avoid their acidic darts and fire away untill the boss is destroyed. ------------------------------ Boss 10: Bio-construct 'Niles' ------------------------------ Difficulty: medium / impossible ------------------------------ Attacks: Laser, Bouncing Laser, Punch, Bombardment. Backup: Flying Robots, Cutters. Niles has a shield of 1 health bar long. It will diminish far quicker then his normal health bar, but he can reload it from 4 points in the same way you can reload your shield from the shield regenerators. Allowing him to do so will result in certain failure over time. These points can be destroyed, but you can't lock onto them, so it's advised you destroy these prior to the battle, before you enter the control room and trigger the cutscene. In Niles' first phase (when he still has the shield) he will fire a laserbeam at you which does medium damage and will knock you down. He'll make a circle with it, so make sure there's either something to block it's path or that you are out of range. I suggest walking or dashing to the left and taking cover behind the inner wall, pop out and shoot him, watch the direction of his laser and repeat. You will destroy his shield quickly. If you haven't destroyed the reloading points, Niles will punch you out of the way and force his way to one of these points to relaod his shield. Niles will call on flying robots as Backup, which will fire red lasers at you that do only minimal damage. While they are quite easily destroyed with a precise ballistic weapon (Rifle or Assault Rifle), they explode when shot up close so keep a distance. After his shield is destroyed, Niles will either use a bombardment or a smaller version of his laser (which bounces off the wall and has a huge lifespan, it can even go full-circle in this circulair room). These laserbeams are tricky to avoid so watch your step. The bombardment is way easier to avoid, you don't even need to dash. I suggest strafing across the hall and then head towards Niles' side, while firing your gun. Beware of the smaller corridors, you'll get caught in the bombardment easier so retreat if nessecary. He will also call upon Cutters as backup, kill them on sight. After a while Niles will flee before attacking again. Run after him, and take out any of the robots / Cutters that might appear. He'll use the same stealth technique some of the Cutters and Shooters use, but you can still hit (and hurt) Niles. I suggest taking out any other enemies first, then concentrate on Niles again. This is his last phase, so bring down his life bar and enjoy a cutscene. ------------------------------ Boss 12: Final Boss ------------------------------ Difficulty: medium ------------------------------ Attacks: Rolling Attack, Spines. Backup: Acidic Drones. Unless you are very low on Health Packs, you shouldn't have any real problems with this boss. The final boss battle isn't really hard once you get the hang of dodging the boss' rolling attack. When it's curled up like that, you won't be able to harm it with any weapon, so keep dodging (I suggest running if you are comfortable with the camera) and keep an eye on your surroundings. Getting hit by the boss knocks you down, making you vulnerable to the Acidic Drones' ranged attacks. There are two bodies with health packs to be found, and there are two shield regenerators (two charges each) attached to the wall. Use these if neccasary, especially acidic attacks drain a lot of your shield. Once the boss stops rolling, he'll throw small darts that aren't exactly accurate at long range, so dodge these while remaining locked on. Also, keep firing, as he is vulnerable now. Keep an eye on the Drones at all times and dodge their attacks. Heal a lot if you get hit, and use the biggest, baddest guns you have ammo for. Since this is the final fight there's no reason you should hold back or conserve ammo. Crossbow Explosives are very usefull against this boss, use them if you have any left. He'll probably last a little longer than the other bosses, but he'll be repeating the same two phases so he's fairly predictable. Once you've beaten him, enjoy the ending and some more Breaking Benjamin during the credits. Congratulations, you just finished Run Like Hell! ### END OF FILE ###
