The hugely hyped game has delivered in all areas and exceeded the already monumental expectations. Tons to unlock, lots of variety in cars, tracks, music, the works. New information will always be added, hopefully you can find something of use in all this! You better... --------------- III. Kudos System ---------------- Kudos are the points you recieve in and after races for doing certain things. The more Kudos you accumulate, the higher your Rank will go. When you increase your rank you get Tokens which will allow you to purchase new cars. You can get Kudos points from the single player or even from racing online! When you perform something that will earn you points it'll take a couple seconds to actually bank it into your total. If you hit a wall before it banks, you will lose the kudos that haven't been banked. However, if you've got a combo going (2 or more kudo moves) that haven't been banked, if you hit a wall they will still remain until they are banked. Now that you are thoroughly confused, here are the Token Levels: NOTE: I've decided to only list the ones where there is a token increase since listing them all would be long and pointless. -Level- -Points Needed- -Tokens- 01 02 03 2 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 6 12 7 14 106,000 8 16 132,750 9 17 147,000 10 20 194,250 15 31 401,750 17 -- During the Race -- There are many ways to gain more Kudos points during the race, this is accomplished by doing certain tricks: - Nice Slide! (+N/A pts.): You get Kudos points for doing power slides, this happens when you make a sharp turn and the car slides sideways. The longer you hold the slide the more the point total will increase. It is easy to get a pretty good amount of points for sliding all the way through S-turns. - 360! (+100 pts.): Spin your car completely around in a circle and you will get the 360 bonus. - Sweet Overtake! (+50 pts.): When doing a race against another opponent you will get points for overtaking their car. The amount decreases for each time you pass a specific car. - Great Drafting! (+N/A pts.): When going at high speeds, stay directly behind the car in front of yours. This will put you in their airflow and give you a quick boost and allow you to pass them with relative ease. The longer you stay in this airflow, the more points you will gain. - Clean Section ( pts.): When you pass between a checkpoint without hitting any walls, you will get a Clean Section bonus. This encourages you to drive more carefully and will also get you through the track quicker. - Good Line! (+N/A pts.): If you take a turn going the optimal speed you get a Nice Line bonus. Learn how to take the turns faster and with more precision and the point total for your line will increase. - Two Wheels! (+N/A pts.): Have your car go on two wheels and you get the Two Wheels bonus. This can be easily done by hitting a turn at a fast speed and going up on the apron (red/blue and white striped piece) on the side of the road. Also if you hit small bumps in the road at a higher speed your car will lift off a little. Either of these will put your car on 2 wheels and get you a bonus. - Cool Air! (+N/A pts.): Just the same as the Two Wheels bonus only you can attain it if you hit the bump at a higer speed and get the entire car airborne. The longer the car is in the air, the bigger your bonus. - Cone Gate (+10 pts.): When you do the Cone Challenges, you will get points for every cone gate you pass. The gate is between the two orange cones. -- After the Race -- Kudos can be gained even after the race is over! There are a few of them also: - Clean Race (+250 pts.): Complete an entire race without hitting one of the barriers and you will get the Clean Race bonus after the round is over. - Fastest Lap (+100 pts.): Set an initial time or beat your old fastest lap time and you will get the Fastest Lap bonus after the round is over. - Position Bonus (+N/A pts.): When racing against opponents you will get a bonus based on which place you finished. The better you place, the better the bonus. - Completion Bonus (+N/A pts.): After finishing a challenge you will get a Completion Bonus based on what difficulty you've got it set on. Steel will get you the least points and as you increase the difficulty, the total points you recieve will increase as well. - Time Bonus (+N/A pts.): For timed races you will get a Time Bonus for however many seconds you make it under the goal. For example, if the goal is for 1:00:00 and you complete it in 0:45:00, you will recieve 15 points for completing it 15 seconds under the goal. ---------------- V. Single Player ---------------- Contents: 1. The Medal System 2. Cars by Classes 3. Kudos World Series (+Tips!) 4. Arcade Racing - Street Race - Timed Run - Cone Challenge (+Tips!) 5. Time Attack - Circuit Challenge - Car Challenge -- The Medal System -- Medals are basically a way to change the difficulty of the challenge. From easiest to hardest it goes: Steel, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum. Steel is the Novice level, kinda like a practice session for the harder difficulties. Platinum is the hardest to play on, the times will be shorter, the points will increase, and the computer controlled cars will drive cleaner, good luck! Here are the completion bonuses for beating a challenge on each difficulty level: Steel Bronze Silver 1,500 pts. Gold Platinum -- Cars by Classes -- The following is a breakdown of the cars in each class that you will use for both online and offline. The Default cars are the ones you begin with and don't have to buy. The Unlock cars are the ones you will need to buy in order to race with, the costs for these are located in the Car List section of this guide. I have also added some suggestions on which cars are your best bet underneat the list for the class. NOTE: These suggestions are just personal opinions! Each person has a different style of driving, I may like some cars that you don't, I'm just trying to give the best overall choice. My opinions are also based on what I see people using frequently online as it is a pretty good indication of which cars are the best in each class. (** Denotes a Special Car that is obtained by completing the Kudos World Series on a certain difficulty. For more info on these cars, see the Bonuses/Secrets area of the guide.) Compact Sports: (Default)MINI Cooper S Seat Leon Cupra R Volkswagen New Beetle RSi (Unlock)Lancia Delta Integrale Evo Volkswagen R32 Renault Clio V6 Honda Civic Type-R(J) Ford Focus RS SUGGESTIONS: I suggest using the Ford Focus RS for everything in this series on one player, it is easily the best out of the bunch. For online purposes I'd also stick with the Focus but I have seen the Clio getting a little play as well. Sports Convert.:(Default)Toyota MR2 Spyder Mazda Miata MX-5 (Unlock)BMW Z4 3.0i Honda S2000 Porsche Boxter S Audi TT Roadster SUGGESTIONS: The Porsche and S2000 seem to be favored both online and off. Each are pretty well balanced against one another so whichever you want is a good choice. The Z4 also gets a decent amount of play online but not as much as the Porsche or S2K. Coupe Series: (Defualt)Honda Integra Type-R(J) Mazda RX-8 (Unlock)Audi TT 3.2 Quattro BMW M3 Audi S4 Nissan 350Z Audi TT Coupe SUGGESTIONS: Sports Utility: (Default)Chevrolet SSR Volvo XC90 (Unlock)Ford SVT Lightning BMW X5 4.6is Porsche Cayene Turbo Mercedes ML55 AMG SUGGESTIONS: By far the best pick out of this class is the Porsche, with the Mercedes trailing far behind. The Porsche is the best choice to use for both single and multiplayer. Pacific Muscle: (Default)Toyota Supra Twin-Turbo Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 (Unlock)Nissan Skyline GT-R(R34) Nur Subaru Impreza WRX STi Mazda RX-7 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII SUGGESTIONS: The Skyline is my pick for this class for single player. It power slides very easily so it is a good car to really rack up a lot of Kudos around the track. For online I've seen the most use out of the Supra, Skyline, STi. With the exception of the VR4 (possibly), any car is a good choice as long as you can handle it, they're all pretty well balanced. This car has superior acceleration and above average handling so it can dust the cars in this class when in the hands of a good driver. Grand Touring: (Default)Lotus Esprit V8 Aston Martin Vanquish (Unlock)Ferrari 575M Maranello Mercedes SL55 AMG Ferrari 550 Barchetta Ferrari Testarossa Bentley Continental GT Track Specials: (Default)Vauxhall VX220 Turbo Lotus Exige (Unlock)Ferrari Challenge Stradale Porsche 911 GT3 (966) Noble M12 GTO3 Honda NSX Type-R(J) Dodge Viper SRT-10 Extreme Series: (Default)Porsche 911 GT2 (933) Ford GT40 (Unlock)Pagani Zonda S Enzo Ferrari Koenigsegg CC V8S Porsche Carrera GT **TVR Cerbera Speed 12 **Porsche 911 GT1 **Mercedes CLK-GTR SUGGESTIONS: Really any car from this class is a good choice since all of the stats are very comparable. More than anything it comes down to how good of a driver you are as opposed to which car has the best stats. Then Enzo seems to be the most favored overall but a good driver can win with any car in the class. -- Kudos World Series -- The Kudos World Series is the main one player mode in the game. You compete in a variety of challenges in 14 different car classes to earn Kudos and, if you're on Xbox Live, a place in the standings for each track. The following is a little summary of the types of challenges you must pass: - Street Race - A basic race against computer controlled cars. You must place in 3rd or higher to complete the challenge. - One on One - Much like the Street Race, only this time you are trying to beat just one computer controlled car. Obviously, you need to place first in order to complete the challenge. - Hot Lap - - Timed Run - - Overtake - - Cone Challenge - Weave in and out of a cone setup on a track. To beat the scores you try and link together a combo while going through the cone course. Hitting a cone is like hitting a wall, it will stop your combo or clear your points if you don't have a combo running. - Speed Camera - Meet or beat a set speed in order to pass this event. For example, if the speed is set to 96 MPH, you must get at or above 96 MPH in order for the camera to photograph your car. TIP: If you've got Xbox Live and are have having trouble beating the Platinum level, download a ghost! Pick the top ranked person for that stage and learn how they take the line, it'll give you a very good idea on how to complete it with the correct speed. -- Arcade Racing -- Another way to get some extra Kudos is doing the Arcade Races. Here you will compete in three different types of challenges: Street Race, Timed Run, and Cone Challenge. You are given 20 challenges to do in each catigory so there is a lot of Kudos to be earned. - STREET RACE - TIMED RUN - CONE CHALLENGE TIP: Cone Challenges are the source of frustration for many gamers attempting the harder difficulties. When the next cone or section break seems to be just a little to far out of reach, do a quick little power slide. This will keep your combo going a little bit longer so you can make it to the next cone or checkpoint. TIP: Speed isn't always important! You don't have to fly through the course in order to complete it. In fact, doing so may cause you to hit a wall and lose all of those hard earned points in your combo. Take it slow, learn the course, find the best way to link everything up. -- Time Attack -- In the Time Attack mode you don't earn any Kudos, unfortunately. This is just more of a way to set your personal bests on tracks based on time instead of having to worry about getting Kudos as well. - Circuit Challenge: You are able to pick your city, track, and car in this mode. There are a huge amount of tracks available once they've been unlocked so it'll keep you busy for a while. - Car Challenge: You are only able to select your car here. Each car is assigned a different track so you don't get to pick whatever you want. With over 100 cars to choose from, this might take a while... -------------- VII. Xbox Live -------------- Argueably the most fun and rewarding part of Project Gotham 2 is its online components. Hook up your Xbox to the net and when you begin you'll be asked to sign into your account. Doing so will enable you to store your ghosts and points on the servers as well as go head to head against others from around the world. More information about this section will be available in the next update so check back! --------------- VIII. Quick Start -- If you've played Mario Kart for the SNES you probably know what I'm talking about. At the beginning of a race you get that little speed boost right off the bat. At the moment I do not know how I accomplished this, all I know is that I've done it. I was playing online and using a Ferrari F50 at the time, when we started I instantly jumped ahead of everyone (who were also using F50's) and was to the front of the pack and a little bit ahead within 2 seconds. Needless to say I got a lot of "How the hell did he do that?!" responses over the headset, and to be honest, I wish I knew. I'm currently experimenting with it, trying to figure out exactly what I did to get this. Maybe it was a glitch? Maybe it was something that has to do with timing? Hopefully I'll get more info on it in the next update. Check back! -------- X. Legal -------- This FAQ is (c) Copyright 2003 to James Pelchar aka 'jesterguy'.
