Myst III: Exile Endings and Easter Eggs FAQ Jason Smith (pNin01) Created July 2004 Version 1.00 =============================== TABLE OF CONTENTS =============================== I. VERSION HISTORY =============================== v1.00 The initial version. I hope to improve on it, though, with your help. =============================== II. INTRODUCTION =============================== This FAQ is my first contribution to GameFAQs. I created it because I noticed that not as much detail has been given to Myst III: Exile as, say, Riven, even though Myst III: Exile has just as many endings and some neat Easter Eggs as well. I hope you find my descriptions clear, for they are very succinct. But please, please contact me with any corrections or additions! Your help is wanted and appreciated. HOW TO GET THE ENDINGS =============================== NOTES -The orbiters are the two spherical objects in which you enter the symbols featured on the tapestries. -Save your game after completing the four symbols in the orbiters. But do not save after that point, or you will not be able to get all the endings. -All endings can be seen after completing the fourth symbol in the orbiter. You will have to repeat some of the videos when you load your file, but you can always press Spacebar to skip the movies (and you'll want to skip Saavedro's very loud "No no no!!" speech). -Getting the Tomahna linking book immediately will not affect the endings in case you had lingering apprehensions created by Riven's Prison Book. -Do not mess with the orbiters unless I mention it. Most of the explanations assume the inner shield will be deactivated so long as you do not mess with the switch. -The endings are listed in an approximately temporal order. The best ending is listed last. -The ways to get the endings are listed first, spoiler-free. The descriptions of the endings are listed in IV. ENDING #1 Link to Tomahna in a position at a time such that Saavedro would have access to the book. Some ways to get this ending are by -linking before summoning Saavedro (by completing the fourth symbol), -linking after summoning Saavedro and leaving the inner shield deactivated, and -linking after summoning Saavedro and then deactivating and reactivating the orbiters such that the inner shield is deactivated. You must link immediately after reactivating the orbiters. Having the Releeshan linking book will not change the ending. ENDINGS #2, #3, AND #4 After summoning Saavedro and he is pacing near the gondola, approach him and he will speak to you. You can get three very similar yet slightly different endings by #2 simply waiting and listening to his speeches, #3 walking away once he starts speaking, approaching him again, and simply waiting and listening to his speeches, and #4 walking away once he starts speaking, approaching him again, walking away again once he starts speaking, and approaching him a third time. ENDING #5 Link to Tomahna in a position at a time such that Saavedro would not have access to the book and you do not have the Releeshan linking book. Some ways to get this ending are described below. -After summoning Saavedro and he is pacing near the gondola, deactivate the outer shield as he requested. After the ensuing video, use the linking book to Tomahna. -After summoning Saavedro and he is pacing near the gondola, go back to the barrier gate at the top of the building and deactivate the orbiters. Go back downstairs and click on the orbiter switch such that it is facing the fourth symbol. Reactivate the orbiters such that the outer shield is deactivated. After the ensuing video, use the linking book to Tomahna. ENDINGS #6, #7 AND #8 After summoning Saavedro and he is pacing near the gondola, go back to the barrier gate at the top of the building and deactivate the orbiters. After the ensuing video, reactivate the orbiters such that the inner shield is deactivated. You can get three very similar but slightly different endings at this point by #6 staying in place, #7 moving towards the locked door of the building from which Saavedro initially greeted you, and #8 moving towards the staircase. Having the Releeshan book does not change these endings. ENDING #9 After summoning Saavedro and he is pacing near the gondola, go back to the barrier gate at the top of the building and deactivate the orbiters. Go back downstairs and look at Saavedro through the vine gate. After the ensuing video, use the Tomahna linking book. ENDING #10 After summoning Saavedro and he is pacing near the gondola, go back to the barrier gate at the top of the building in Narayan and deactivate the orbiters. Go back downstairs and look at Saavedro through the vine gate. After the ensuing video, ensure that the orbiter switch is facing towards the fourth symbol and reactivate the orbiters. =============================== IV. ENDINGS DESCRIPTIONS =============================== #1 You return to Tomahna. Saavedro follows immediately after you and kills you. What he does with Atrus is indeterminable. I assume he kills Atrus and Catherine out of anger, rather than request that Atrus revive Narayan. #2 Saavedro gets increasingly angry through the course of three speeches. He smashes your skull with his stone hammer. #3 Saavedro gets increasingly angry though the course of two speeches. He smashes your skull with his stone hammer. #4 Saavedro smashes your skull with his stone hammer. #5 You return to Tomahna. Atrus is very saddened by the loss of Releeshan. #6 Saavedro smashes your skull while you are atop the barrier gate. #7 Saavedro smashes your skull while you are standing near the locked door. #8 Saavedro smashes your skull while you are standing at the apex of the staircase. #9 Atrus, though happy to have Releeshan returned, ponders whether he would have been as heartless as you were, leaving Saavedro trapped between the two shields for eternity. #10 Atrus is happy to have Releeshan returned, and he offers an inspiring message of hope and urges himself to forget the deeds of the past and look to the future. =============================== V. EASTER EGGS =============================== NOTES You will probably need to start a new game to do some of these Easter Eggs. I'll list them in an approximately temporal order, so you shouldn't miss any of them. Also, the descriptions assume you know how to complete the game. If you do not understand what I am referring to, you should look at a walkthrough here at GameFAQs (or try to figure it out yourself). Several Easter Eggs will require you to hold the "~" key. EASTER EGG #1 At the beginning of the game in Tomahna, go into Atrus' study and zoom in on the shelf next to his desk. Click on the small bottle furthest left on the top shelf. You will zoom out upon clicking it. Link to J'nanin, but before linking to J'nanin, you should complete Easter Egg #2. Begin the light-reflector puzzle. Reflect light from the yellow reflector to the blue reflector. Then, reflect light to the green reflector across the valley. Reflect the light to the red reflector. Move up to the top of the stone staircase leading to the red reflector. Turn the red reflector so that the light is reflected towards the stone wall on the right side of the screen. Hold "~" while moving towards the stone wall. EASTER EGG #2 Hold "~" while zooming in on the picture of Catherine and Yeesha on Atrus' desk. EASTER EGG #3 Climb up the ladder to the door Saavedro locks upon your arrival in J'nanin. Hold "~" while zooming in on the window on the outer, locked door. You will need to zoom in and out multiple times. EASTER EGG #4 On the elevator side of Saavedro's home in J'nanin, move towards the hammock. Hold "~" and move the cursor near the left side of the hammock, and the cursor should change to a zoom-in icon. Well, zoom in. EASTER EGG #5 Ride the elevator in Saavedro's home in J'nanin up to the Narayan linking room. After Saavedro's speech ("Atrus, is that you?"), zoom out. Then hold "~" while zooming in on the window of the door looking into where Saavedro is. You will need to zoom in and out multiple times. EASTER EGG #6 In Edanna, ride the spiral plant to the lowest level. Travel to the area where the jumping plant is located. Instead of going up the stairs to the jumping plant, take the path on the left and turn right. You should see a rather large, brown, immobile moth sitting on the rock wall of the staircase. If you zoom in and click on the moth, it will fly away. Instead, hold "~" and zoom in. EASTER EGG #7 In Edanna, after getting off the spiral plant that brings you to the lowest level, travel past the little pond where the electric sting ray is swimming. Continue a little further to the purple-lit path. On the left side is a twisted tree. Walk towards the tree and turn left to look at it. This Easter Egg has not been confirmed, as I found it myself. =============================== VI. EASTER EGGS DESCRIPTIONS =============================== #1 An illuminated cat's face with its mouth open. #2 A picture of the actresses who played Catherine and Yeesha. #3 Saavedro hits his head on the Releeshan linking book. I guess this explains why he is a lunatic. #4 A PEZ dispenser. #5 Saavedro checks his watch. #6 The moth will feature two cats' faces on its wings. #7 The moss on the tree forms the picture of what appears to be a rabbit. ======================================== Copyright (c) 2004 Jason Smith (pNin01).
