Completing Forza 2 With Minimum Car Purchases Don Brandes (c) 2009 Draft Thursday, April 09, 2009 ***** CONTENTS ***** INTRODUCTION FORZA 2 EVENT GROUPS AND ABBREVIATIONS MISCELLANEOUS TIPS QUICK IDENTIFICATION OF ELIGIBLE CARS KEEP TO THE RIGHT SPEED vs. CLASS RWD vs FWD and AWD. CARS FOR FACTORY SPEC EVENTS MOST EVENTS WITH A SINGLE CAR STARTING CARS EUROPE NORTH AMERICA ASIA WHERE TO GET THE CAR YOU NEED FOR EACH EVENT PROVING GROUNDS AMATEUR CUP MANUFACTURER CLUBS SEMI-PRO RIVALRY FACE-OFFS REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS FACTORY-SPEC PROFESSIONAL and ENDURANCE RACES MASTER LIST OF EVENTS AND PRIZE CARS MASTER LIST OF PRIZE CARS AND EVENTS WHERE THEY CAN BE WON LEVEL REWARDS CARS CARS YOU MUST BUY ***** INTRODUCTION ***** You can complete the 90 events in Forza 2 with the purchase of only twelve or thirteen cars, depending on your choice of home region. The cars you win from racing are enough to complete 76 events. That leaves 14 events that require other cars. You have to buy a car to start the game and, if you make an informed decision to buy something that you will have to buy later anyway, you have to acquire other cars for only thirteen more events. You actually need only 12 more cars because one car can be used for two of the remaining events. If you are based in North America, you need to buy only more 11 cars because one of your level cars can be used in place of a bought one. You cannot race through 76 events with cars that you have won before buying a second car though. Sometimes you have to buy a car to race in one event in order to win something that you can race in another event. However, you can complete over 60% of the game and, depending on the difficulty settings you use, you can be somewhere driver levels 40 and 50 and have five to ten million credits before you have to buy a second car. Regardless of your home region, by the time you need to buy a second car, most of the vehicles in the game will be available to you, you will have accumulated discounts on many models, and you will have plenty of credits to buy anything you need, if you don't use hired drivers to much. It takes less than 2 million credits to get the cars your need to complete the remaining races and you win it all back. You should never be short of cash because Forza 2 is very generous with prize money and you don't need much of it early in the game. You should not have to repeat easy, low paying events to get enough funds to carry on. Many faq writers for racing games will tell you which specific cars to run in which events but that doesn't hold water for most Forza 2 events because you often have a choice of several eligible, competitive cars that you have won. Your choice of which car to race often can be a matter of personal preference. I ran the Porsche 914 in nine events because it looks exactly like one I used to own but very few other people will run it in more than the couple of events where it is required because there are better cars available for the other events. I also ran Camaros in every event that I could and never a Mustang because I have been driving Camaros on the street for many years. You may want to drive something that matches your street vehicle (or your desired street vehicle) in some events if it is available. You often will have multiple cars eligible for an event and many of those cars can be used without spending money on upgrades, although some tuning of the handling may be needed. I have played completely through Forza 2 twice (all while waiting for Gran Turismo 5 to come out!). I chose Europe for my home region the first time and North America the second time. The opportunities to run so many different cars in many events often resulted in me choosing different cars the second time through the game. ***** FORZA 2 EVENT GROUPS AND ABBREVIATIONS ***** Forza 2 events are divided into the nine groups shown below. The abbreviations shown are used through the remainder of this faq to identify event groups. Events in earlier groups generally are easier than those in later groups and events earlier within a group generally are easier than those later in the group. Proving Ground (PG) Amateur (Am) Manufacturer Clubs (Mfg) Semi-Pro (SP) Rivalry Face-Offs (Riv) Regional Championships (Reg) Factory-Spec (Fac) Professional (Pro) Endurance (End) ***** MISCELLANEOUS TIPS ***** Before we get into the specific cars that are available, eligible, and competitive for specific events, here are some useful generalities: ***QUICK IDENTIFICATION OF ELIGIBLE CARS*** The lists of cars that I provide that are eligible for the various events generally will include some that you have not yet won when you are thinking about entering an event. If you want to see what cars you currently own are a eligible for an event, try to enter the event with a car that is not eligible. The game will automatically take you to the car selection screen and show you only the cars that are eligible for the event. ***KEEP TO THE RIGHT*** Anytime you have your pick of multiple cars, remember when you are on the car selection screen that Forza 2 arranges the cars according to increasing performance from left to right, unless you have designated them as favorites. Having cars arranged according to performance helps you identify the best ones to race in each class. However, your designated favorites will always be to the left of the other cars and will be arranged in the order in which you last used them. You will have to either look at the car specs and ratings in the upper right corner of the screen to compare your favorites with non-favorites or undesignate them. ***SPEED vs. CLASS*** R class cars are eligible to run against production cars in many Proving Ground, Amateur, Manufacturer Clubs, Rivalry Face-Offs, and Regional Championship events and most of the time an R class car is the hot setup. However, R class cars are not necessarily faster than non-R class cars. S and U cars sometimes are faster than R4 and R3 cars, particularly if they have had power upgrades. S and U cars generally do not handle as well R class cars but their handling can be upgraded enough to sometimes give them better lap times than R4 and R3 cars. ***RWD vs FWD and AWD*** Being aware of the Forza 2 game designers prejudices can help you pick out better handling cars. They appear to believe that rear wheel drive (RWD) cars have to handle badly and that front wheel drive (FWD) and all wheel drive (AWD) cars always handle well. RWD cars in Forza 2, even some with mid-engines, are prone excessive oversteer and FWD cars never understeer, neither of which is true in the real world. If you want to see how far you can go with a RWD car though, add air to the front tires, stiffen the front sway bar, lower the ride height, and stiffen the springs. You may or may not have to buy upgrades to do these things, depending on how well the car handles initially and whether it is completely stock or a tuner special. You can make big improvements to RWD car handling but getting just the right balance between turning ability and stability is a very delicate matter and you can never get the car to handle overall as well as a FWD or AWD car in this game. You will always be able to get on the gas sooner coming out a corner in Forza 2 if the car is FWD or AWD rather than RWD. If you set up a RWD car so you can get on the gas pedal early exiting a corner, than you probably have the front end so tight that it won't go around the corner at a competitive speed. ***CARS FOR FACTORY SPEC EVENTS*** You win two cars that are required for Factory Spec events(the Porsche 914/6 for the Fac 1 event and the Mazdaspeed Roadster 2001 for the Fac 3 event). Cars raced in Factory Spec events cannot be upgraded in any way for those events. Sometimes you may want to upgrade one of these cars so it will be competitive in a different event. Just remember, if the car will be needed for a Factory Spec event, race it in that event before you upgrade it. Otherwise, you will have to remove the upgrades before you can do the Factory Spec event and that does not always work. Once when I upgraded a car for some other event and then removed the upgrades to race it in a Factory Spec event, a bug in the game kept me from getting the PI points back down to the original level so I could not use it in the Factory Spec event. I had to buy a separate car for the event even though I had already won the eligible model. Unlike Gran Turismo, you cannot win a car a second time by repeating an event in Forza 2. *** MOST EVENTS WITH A SINGLE CAR*** Here is something that will add interested to the game for some people, especially if you have already played through the game at least once. If you want to run the most events that you can with one car regardless of what other cars are available, start the game with a Volkswagen Golf GTi 2006. With incremental upgrades, the car can win 20 events at the medium difficulty level and four more if you reduce the difficulty to easy. It can be upgraded to over 400 HP and all the way into S class. However, it does not compete well in A and S classes even with upgrades. The Volkswagen Golf GTi 2006 can win the following events at the medium difficulty level, with appropriate upgrades for each event: PG 3. European Open PG 4. FWD PG 7. Hot Hatch Am 1. Inline 4 Am 2. Boosted Mfg 1: Volkswagen SP 1: Goodyear 150 HP SP 2: Sparco 200 HP SP 3: Kumho Tire 250 HP SP 4: Castrol 300 HP SP 5: Nissan 350 HP SP 6: Stoptech 400 HP Riv 1: Young Guns Reg 2: Deutsch C-Class Pro 1: Class D World Pro 2: Class C World Pro 3: Class B World End 1: Tsukuba Class D End 2: Class C Laguna Seca End 3: Maple Valley B-Class The Volkswagen Golf GTi 2006 also can win the these events if the difficulty level is set to easy: Pro 4: Class A World Pro 5: Class S World End 4: Silverstone Class A End 5: Mugello Supercar ***** STARTING CARS ***** The cars listed below are available for purchasing to start the game, at the prices shown. If your home region is Europe or North America, you can avoid purchasing an extra car later by starting the game with one that you will have to acquire later for a race that you do not win an eligible car for. You eventually will need a Volkswagen for the Mfg 1 event and a Ford Focus SVT 2003 for the Fac 2 event. Any of the three VWs available in Europe at the start are eligible for Mfg 1. You would do best to pick one of the faster ones. I bought the Golf GTi 2006 the first time I played, when I was based in Europe because it was the best car available (not even knowing that I would need it later for a specific event) and got off to a good start. Being better informed the second time I played, I bought the Ford Focus when I was based in North America so I could use it in a Factory Spec race, even though it was well down the list for performance compared to other available cars. I just had to upgrade it more as I went along and did not use it in as many events as the Golf. Just be sure to run the Fac 2 event before you modify the Focus. ***EUROPE*** Volkswagen Golf GTi 2006 11000 cr. Audi TT Coupe 3.2 Quattro 2004 11000 cr. Volkswagen Corrado VR6 1995 10000 cr. Sometimes the car may require upgrades to be competitive. ***PROVING GROUNDS*** PG 1. North American Open. You win the Acura VIS Racing Integra Type-R C-507 from Am 1 Inline 4 which is eligible and competitive in this event. Integra is considered to be a North American brand because Honda only uses the name in North America. I used this car the first time I played through the game, when I was based in Europe. Alternatively, you can use your starting car if North America is you home region. The best overall available North American starting car is the Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe 2005 D-374. However, you eventually will have to buy a Ford Focus SVT 2003 D-263 $9,500 for the Fac 2: Ford Focus event. You can avoid buying an extra car by getting one of these to start the game. I did this the second time I played the game, when I was based in North America. PG 2. Asian Open. I recommend the Honda Wings West Civic Si - D-384 from PG 5 AWD because of its FWD handling. Alternatively, you can use your starting car if Asia is you home region. The fastest available Asian starting car is the Toyota Supra 2.0 GT Twin Turbo 1992. However, you may want to run an FWD car for better handling. The best FWD Asian starting car is the Honda CR-X SiR 1991. Its PI rating is only fifth of the seven available Asian starting cars but it is easier to add horsepower to a slow car than to make a RWD car handle well in Forza 2. If Asia is not you home region, you win the cars listed below that are eligible for this event. Any of them can win the event, although the Mazda, which I used, will need a lot of upgrading. Toyota Do-Luck Supra - B-644 from Amateur 2 Boosted Honda Do-Luck NSX - B-604 from PG 9 Flyweight Toyota Border MR2 Turbo T-bar - C-497 from PG 8 Mid-engine Honda Wings West Civic Si - D-384 from PG 5 AWD Mazda Mazdaspeed Roadster - D-296 from PG 4 FWD PG 3. European Open. Use your starting car if Europe is you home region. The best overall starting car for Europe is the Volkswagen Golf GTi 2006. That is really handy because you eventually will have to buy a Volkswagen for the Mfg 1: VW Club event. You can avoid buying an extra car by getting one of these to start the game. The You quickly win some good European cars regardless of your region though. The Lancia Delta Integrale EVO - C-460 from PG 6 RWD and the Renault Sport Clio V6 RS - C-439 from PG 8 Hot Hatch are eligible and competitive in this event. The Lancia is the much better handling of the two. I used VW Golf the first time I played through the game and the Lancia the second time. PG 4. FWD. Your starting car may be eligible and competitive here. If not, you win several good FWD cars early in the game. I raced my starting cars both times I played through the game, VW Golf the first time and Focus SVT the second time. FWD cars you win are: Acura VIS Racing Integra Type-R C-507 from Am 1 Inline 4 Ford FocusSport SVT Focus 2003 A 736 from Fac 2: Ford Focus Honda Mugen Civic Type-R 2004 C 514 from Riv 1: Young Guns Honda Mugen Integra Type-R 2002 C 506 from Mfg 2: Integra Honda Wings West Civic Si - D-384 from PG 5 AWD Toyota APR Celica GTS 2003 C 525 from Riv 2: Sport Compact PG 5. AWD. The Lancia Delta Integrale EVO - C-460 from PG 6 RWD is the first AWD car you win. It handles very well and can easily win this event, so there is no need to wait for something faster, although you do win some much faster AWD cars. I raced the Subaru Tommy Kaira Impreza M20b the first time and the Lancia the second time. Other suitable AWD cars you win are: Mitsubishi Sparco Lancer Evo. VIII A-797 from SP 2: Sparco 200HP Nissan Tommy Kaira Skyline GT-R R34 B-665 from Am 3: 6 Cylinder Subaru Tommy Kaira Impreza M20b B-642 from SP 1: Under 150 HP Peugeot 207 Super 2000 B-629 from SP 4: 300HP PG 6. RWD. You win 72 RWD cars, including front, mid-, and rear engine models. In addition, most of the level rewards cars are RWD. Level rewards cars are listed at the end of this faq. Competitive RWD cars that you will have in your stable early in the game include those listed below. You will have to work on the handling of any of them. I raced the Camaro Z28 1969 - D 383 both times because I had it very early in the game and I like the car. There are better choices on the list though. Toyota Do-Luck Supra B-644 from Am 2: Boosted Shelby GT500 B-642 from PG 10 Heavy Weight Honda Mugen S2000 B-554 from Am 5. Free Breathing Toyota Border MR2 Turbo T-bar C-497 from PG 8: Mid-engine Renault Sport Clio V6 RS C-439 from PG 7: Hot Hatch Porsche 911 Carrera RS C-429 from Am 4: Sports Car Classic Camaro Z28 1969 – D-383 from PG 1 North American PG 7. Hot Hatch. You win several cars early in the game that work here. I raced my starting VW Golf the first time and the Lancia Delta Integrale EVO the second time, although the Acura VIS Racing Integra Type-R is faster than either of them and is the better car if the others have not been upgraded. Acura VIS Racing Integra Type-R - C-507 from Amateur 1 Inline 4. Lancia Delta Integrale EVO - C-460 from PG 6 RWD Honda Wings West Civic Si - D-384 from PG 5 AWD PG 8. Mid-Engine and PG 9. Flyweight. The Porsche 914/6 - D-196 from PG 3 European Open will work in either of these events if you do a lot of upgrades and tune the handling. Otherwise, you eventually have to buy a Lotus Exige for the Factory Spec 4 event and most people probably would prefer the Lotus. If you decide to upgrade the Porsche 914, wait until after you have used it in Factory Spec 1 so you don't have to remove the upgrades to make it eligible for that event. Or, if you are willing to wait until later in the game to complete these events, you eventually win some seriously fast cars that come in under the Flyweight weight limit and most of these are mid-engine, except for the two Panoz cars. You can easily wipe out the field in any of the cars you win later. I used the Porsche 914 in the mid-engine event the first time and in both events the second time. I used the Bentley in the Flyweight the first time. You can get the Bentley pretty early in the game and it will easily win both events. Other mid-engine and lightweight cars you win are: Audi #2 FSI Champion Racing R8 R1 from SP 10. K&N Filters 700HP Audi #4 Johansson Motorsport R8 R1 from Pro 8: GT Legends Bentley #7 Team Bentley Speed 8 R1 from End 4: Silverstone Class A BMW Motorsport #15 V12 LMR from Pro 10: Class R1 World Ferrari #12 Risi Competizione F333 SP R1 from Pro 9: Class R2 World Ferrari 330 P4 S-868 from Mfg 8: Club della Suceria Ferrari Lotus Exige Cup 240 B-700 from Fac 4: Lotus Sport Exige Panoz #11 JML Team Panoz LMP-01 2003 R1 from Reg 9: North American Panoz #81 Team LNT Panoz Esperante 2006 R3 from SP 8. Panoz 500HP Peugeot #3 Peugeot Talbot Sport 905 EVO 1 C R1 From End 10: Sebring You also get the Cadillac #6 Team Cadillac NorthStar LMP-02 R1 when you reach North American Level 50, Audi #1 Infineon Audi R8 R1 when you reach European Level 50, or the Toyota #3 Toyota Motorsports GT- ONE TS020 when you reach Asian Level 50. PG 10: Heavy Weight. The car must weigh at least 3850 pounds. You will have to buy a car for this event. There are only 9 cars over 3850 pounds in the game but you are not really limited to them because you can start with something a little lighter and add bigger wheels and body pieces to bring up the weight. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 2005, 158,000 cr., is the fastest car that starts out above the weight minimum and you will have to race against one so you had better not have anything slower. I raced the Scaglietti the first time I played. On the other hand, the second time I played through the game, I chose the Mistsubishi GTO, 24,000 cr., and added weight. Even with a lot of upgrades it came out much cheaper than the Scaglietti and, because of the Forza 2 prejudice against having RWD cars handle well, I had superior handling in the AWD GTO. ***AMATEUR CUP*** Am 1. Inline 4. So many choices! The majority of the cars you win in Proving Ground events are inline 4s and you probably chose an inline 4 to start the game. Take your pick but remember when you are on the car selection screen that Forza arranges to cars according to increasing performance from left to right. The inline 4 that is furtherest to the right will be the fastest you have when you are looking, although maybe not the best handling. I raced my starting cars both times I played through the game, VW Golf the first time and Focus SVT the second time, both with upgrades. Am 2. Boosted. Run whatever you feel like driving. It does not even have to be boosted. Again, I raced my starting cars with upgrades both times I played through the game, VW Golf the first time and Focus SVT the second time. Am 3. 6-Cylinder. You win the Porsche 914/6 - D-196 from PG 3 European and the Renault Sport Clio V6 RS - C-439 in PG 8 Hot Hatch early in the game. The Renault is a lot faster unless you have upgraded the Porsche for other events. Either one needs work on its handling. I used the Porsche 914 both times. You win a lot of better cars though if you want to wait, a lot of Porsche 911s, Nissan Skylines, Toyota Supras, etc., too many to list them all. If you are not in a hurry to complete this event, you can wait until later in the game and pick something else from further right in the selection screen. Am 4. Sports Car. This car has to be pre-1975 and cannot be a muscle car. That leaves you with the Porsche 914/6 from PG 3 European if you want to get this event out of the way early in the game. The 914 with major upgrades will do the job. Otherwise, you can wait until later in the game for the Ferrari 330 P4 S-868 from Mfg 8: Club della Suceria Ferrari, which is a much faster car. I used the Porsche 914 with upgrades both times. Am 5. American Iron. Must be a pre-1975 muscle car. The Chevrolet Camaro Z28 1969 D-383 from PG 1: North American is the first thing you win that qualifies. It will work with adequate upgrades, including a stiffened front sway bar. I used the Camaro Z28 1969 both times I played. If you are based in North America, you also can choose from the cars listed below, from levels 5, 10, and 15, However, the Camaro Z28 has a higher PI rating: Shelby Mustang GT-500KR 1968 D-333 Dodge Charger R/T-SE 1969 D-333 Chevrolet Chevelle SS-454 1970 D-353 If you have Forza 2 Platinum or downloaded the appropriate expansion pack, you also have a Dodge Challenger R/T Hemi 1970. Am 6. Free Breathing. There are way too many cars to bother listing. Just pick something from the far right of the selection screen and upgrade it if you need to. I used the Viper #23 the first time I played and the Camaro Z28 1969 the second time. There are a lot of better cars than the Camaro available. Am 7. Big Block. Again, there are way too many cars to bother listing, both North American and European. Just pick something from the far right of the selection screen and upgrade it if you need to. I used the Guldstrand Corvette the first time and the Camaro Z28 the second time. Again, there are a lot of better cars than the Camaro Z28 available. Am 8. Five by Five. This event requires a ten cylinder engine. You win several Vipers and the Peugeot #3 Talbot Sport 905 EVO 1 C R1 that can be raced here. See list below. You can have a good race with any of the Vipers or blow away the field with the Peugeot. If you are based in North American, you also get the 1999 Dodge Viper GTS ACR A-774 when you reach Level 30. Your top competitor is rated S-914. I used the Hennessey Viper the first time and upgraded the GTS ACR Viper the second time. Any of the R class cars would have been better. Dodge #23 Magellan Viper Comp. Am 9: Extreme Performance. This event requires a very fast car with a twelve cylinder engine. Your top competition is rated S-954. You win the twelve cylinder cars listed below. I drove the Maserati #15 the first time. By the second time I did this event, I had the Forza Platinum Murcielago LP 640 that I bought for the Mfg 10 event, so I used it. BMW Motorsport #15 V12 LMR 1999 R1 from Pro 10: Class R1 World McLaren #43 Team McLaren F1 GTR 1997 R2 from Fac 10: McLaren F1 Maserati #35 Risi Competizione MC12 2005 R2 from SP 9. 600HP Maserati #9 Vitaphone MC12 2005 R2 from Pro 7: Class R3 World Maserati #15 JMB Racing MC12 2005 R2 from End 5: Mugello Supercar Pagani #17 Zonda GR 2003 R2 from Riv 10: Ferrari V12 vs Lambo TVR Cerbera Speed 12 1998 U-999 from Fac 6: TVR Tuscan S Maserati MC12 2004 S-954 from Reg 7: Italian Masters Ferrari 330 P4 1967 S-868 from Mfg 8: Club della Suceria Ferrari Ferrari #12 Risi Competizione F333 SP 1998 R1 from Pro 9: Class R2 Lamborghini Diablo GTR 1999 S-869 from Mg 10: Furioso (You win the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve Concept 2005 U-999 in this event.) Am 10: 20th Century Supercar. This event requires that the car must be built before 2000 and be very fast. You win the S and U class, pre-2000 cars listed below. The TVR Cerbera Speed 12 1998 is the fastest. I used the Ferrari 330 P4 1967 868 the first time and the Lamborghini Diablo GTR 1999 the second time. The old Ferrari was not a good choice. It needed a lot of upgrading but I did not know at the time that I would win much better cars later. You have to buy a VW for this event. This can be your game starting car if you are based in Europe, as it was mine the first time I played. You need something fast enough to outrun a C-455 rated competitor, so you may have to upgrade if you use a game starting car. Mfg 2: Integra. No choice here. You win the Acura VIS Racing Integra Type-R - C-507 from Amateur 1 Inline 4. You can't even buy a different Acura Integra. Mfg 3: MR2 Cup. You have your choice of the Toyota Border MR2 Turbo T-bar from PG 8: Mid-engine 5 564 or Toyota VIS MR2 GT Turbo T-bar C-448 from Mfg 3: MR2 10. I drove the VIS MR2 GT Turbo T-bar both times even though the Border is faster. Mfg 4: Quattro. The Audi #8 Audi ABT TT-R R3 from Pro 2: Class C World 20 – 537 is your only car for this event. Mfg 5: Nissan. You can run any Nissan but you will be competing against cars up to S-864 so you need to be fast. I drove the Nissan Skyline GT-R Mines 2002 both times. Competitive cars you win are: Nissan #12 Calsonic Skyline R3 from Pro 6: Class R4 World Nissan #23 XANAVI Nismo GT-R R3 from Riv 8: Ultimate Tuner Nissan MINE'S R32 Skyline 1993 S-883 from Pro End 3: Maple Valley Nissan MINE'S R34 Skyline GT-R 2002 S-869 from Pro Reg 1 Asian D Nissan R390 1998 S-872 from Pro SP 5: Nissan 350HP Nissan Top Secret D1-Spec S15 2000 S-864 from Pro Mfg 5: Nissan Club Mfg 6: Porsche. You can run any Porsche. The top competitor is an A-794, so any of the R class Porsches you win will easily take the event. I drove the #5 XBOX 360 911 GT3-RSR 2005 because I won it early in the game. Cars you win are: Porsche #17 Porsche AG 962c 1987 R1 from End 7: Nurburgring Porsche Porsche #26 911 GT1-98 1998 R2 from Fac 8: Porsche 911 GT2 Porsche #5 XBOX 360 911 2005 R3 from Riv 7: Porsche vs Farrari Porsche #55 911 GT3 2005 R4 from Fac 1: Porsche 914 Mfg 7: Corvette. You can run any Corvette but it had better be very fast. The top competitor is a Lingenfelter S-911 with 725 HP. Fortunately, you win one of these in a different event. Unfortunately, it handles horribly, extremely loose. You also have your choice of adding power to the Guldstrand Vette or running an R4 car which will handle better. You win the following cars: Chevrolet #73 3R-Racing Corvette Z06 R4 from Reg 6: American A Chevrolet #99 Tiger Racing Corvette Z06 R4 from Mfg 7: Corvette Chevrolet Lingenfelter 427 Corvette 2002 S-911 from Am 7: Big Block Chevrolet Corvette Guldstrand 2003 A-790 from Am 5: American Iron Mfg 8: Club della Suceria. You can run any Ferrari but the top competitor is rated S-898, so you need something very fast. You win a R1 Ferrari but not until late in the game. You also win an R3 Ferrari but it come from a Factory Spec event that you have to by a car for. You may want to upgrade a different car to do this race earlier in the game. I drove the F355 Challenge A - 800 from European Level 30 the first time but waited for the #12 Risi Competizione F333 the second time since I was based in a different region then. You win: Ferrari #12 Risi Competizione F333 SP 1998 R1 from Pro 9: Class R2 Ferrari #62 Risi Competizione F430GT R3 from Fac 9: Ferrari F430 You win the Ferrari 330 P4 1967 here. Mfg 9: Viper. You can run any Dodge Viper but it has to be very fast to beat the Hennessey Viper 800 TT - S-953. You win the Hennessey Viper in this event but that does not do you any good until later. If you are based in North America, you get the Viper GTS ACR at Level 30. I used the GTS ACR the second time through the game. I used #57 the first time. Any of the Vipers you win will do the job: Dodge #22 3R-Racing Viper Comp. Coupe 2004 from Am 8: Five by Five Dodge #23 Magellan Viper Comp. Coupe 2003 R4 from SP 6: 400HP Dodge #57 Carsport Viper GTS-R 2000 R3 from End 6: Road Atlanta Dodge #58 Larbre Viper GTS-R 2001 R3 from Riv 9: Corvette vs Viper Dodge Hennessey Viper 800TT 2000 S-953 from Mfg 9: Viper Performance Mfg 10: Club del Toro Furioso. You can run any Lamborghini but you will have to buy it. The Diablo GTR, 236,000 cr., is the fastest but I prefer a Murcielago for its all wheel drive. I chose the basic Murcielago, 214,500 cr. the first time. By the second time I played the game, I had Forza Platinum, with more cars available from the expansion packs. The extra cars included the faster Murcielago LP 640 for 229,500 cr., so I used it instead. Both Murcielagos handle really well. ***SEMI-PRO*** There are too many possibilities to list everything that you could successfully run in these events. I will tell you what I used in each event but it generally won't mean much. Eligible cars within 50 HP below the limit for each event are listed below according to their initial HP but any listed car can race in a higher HP group. With varying degrees of upgrades, you sometimes can use the same car in two or three SP events. Just start with a car that is somewhere close to the right amount of horsepower and remember that, in addition to bringing the horse power as close to the limit as possible, you can reduce vehicle weight, put on racing tires, and do anything else that will improve the car's performance without exceeding the horsepower limit. In general, try to avoid RWD cars if you have a choice because of the Forza 2 prejudice against their handling. R class cars are not listed here because they cannot be raced in SP events. SP 1: Goodyear 150 HP. It does not make much difference which car you choose for this event if you want to race something that you won. All the cars you win that are below the HP limit are squirrelly RWDs that will require you to tune the handling. I used my favorite little old Porsche 914/6 both times. You win the following cars that are below the HP limit: Porsche 914/6 1970 125 HP from PG 3: European Open Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex 1985 130 HP from PG Asian Open Mazda Mazdaspeed Roadster 2001 146 HP from PG 4: FWD SP 2: Sparco 200 HP. Either the Honda Wings West Civic Si 2004 171 HP from PG 6: AWD or the Acura VIS Racing Integra Type-R 2000 197 HP from Am 1: Inline 4 can be used here and then upgraded for the Under 250 HP event. I used the VW Golf I bought to start the game the first time but switched to the Acura VIS Racing Integra the second time. SP 3: Kumho Tire 250 HP. I upgraded the Acura VIS Racing Integra the first time but switched to the Lancia Delta Integrale EVO the second time. You win the cars listed below that are within 50 HP of the limit. I recommend the Lancia, Honda Mugen Integra Type-R, Toyota APR Performance Celica GTS, or Volkswagen Golf R32 for their handling over the RWD cars listed. Porsche 911 Carrera RS 1973 207 HP from Am 4: Sports Car Classic Lancia Delta Integrale EVO 1992 210 HP from PG 6: RWD Toyota Border MR2 Turbo T-bar 1995 210 HP from PG 8: Mid-engine Honda Mugen Integra Type-R 2002 217 HP from Mfg 2: Integra Toyota APR Celica GTS 2003 223 HP from Riv 2: Sport Compact Honda Mugen Civic Type-R 2004 240 HP from Riv 1: Young Guns Toyota VIS MR2 GT Turbo T-bar 1995 241 HP from Mfg 3: MR2 Volkswagen Golf R32 2003 241 HP from Mfg 1: VW Club Lotus Exige Cup 240 2006 244 HP from Fac 4: Lotus Sport Exige SP 4: Castrol 300 HP. I used the Camaro Z28 1969 the first time but switched to the Lancia Delta the second time. I recommend upgrading the Lancia over running any of the cars that start out closer to the HP limit because of the Lancia's excellent handling. It is easier to add power than to tune handling. Don't bother with the Camaro unless you have a penchant for them like I do. You win the following cars that are within 50 HP of the limit: Mazda INGS RX-7 1995 255 HP from Riv 6: Super Tuner Renault Sport Clio V6 RS 2003 255 HP from PG 7: Hot Hatch Honda Mugen S2000 2003 257 HP from Am 5. I used the Camaro Z-28 1969 the first time and the Lancia Delta the second time, both with substantial upgrades, of course. The Lancia is the better choice, much better handling. You win the cars listed below that are within 50 HP of the limit. If I were racing one of them, I would take the Ford FocusSport SVT Focus 2003 for its handling. Shelby Series 1 1999 320 HP from Fac 7: Shelby Cobra Ford FocusSport SVT Focus 2003 334 HP from Fac 2: Ford Focus Lexus Foose Design IS430 2003 340 HP from Riv 3: Tuner Face-off SP 6: Stoptech 400 HP. I used the Nissan Tommy Kaira Skyline GT-R R34 2002 the first time but bought a Chevrolet Camaro SS 2002 that I made to look like my own real life 2000 model to race in this event the second time just because I felt like it. That was my personal whim. The Camaro 2002 is not something anyone needs to buy. The Nissan or Subaru are better choices. You win the following cars that are within 50 HP of the limit: Subaru Tommy Kaira Impreza M20b 1998 350 HP from Under 150 HP Toyota Do-Luck Supra 1992 375 HP from Am 2: Boosted Nissan Tommy K. I used the Ferrari F355 Challenge 1998 from European Level 30 the first time. By the second time I did this event, I had the Murcielago LP 640 that I bought for the Mfg 10 event, so I used it. You win the cars listed below that are within 50 HP of the limit. Either of these cars will do the job with sufficient upgrades. Nissan MINE'S R32 Skyline GT-R 1993 621 HP from End 3: Maple Valley Maserati MC12 2004 625 HP from Reg 7: Italian Masters ***RIVALRY FACE-OFFS*** Riv. 1: Young Guns. Honda Civic vs. VW Golf. You best choice here is the VW Golf R32 2003 C - 455 from Mfg 1 VW Club. Other possibilities are the Honda Wings West Civic Si - D-384 from PG 5 AWD or if bought a Golf for the Mfg 1 event. Riv. 2: Sport Compact. Toyota Celica vs. Mitsubishi Eclipse. You will have to buy this car. The Toyota APR Performance Celica GTS 2003 is the fastest and best handling eligible car and you will have to race against one but, at 103,500 cr., it also costs much more than the alternatives. You can buy a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 2006 for 13,500 cr. and upgrade it to beat the Toyota APR. That is what I did both times. Riv. 3: Tuner. Toyota Altezza vs. Nissan Silvia. Only one choice here. The only car you win the that is eligible for the event is the Nissan Top Secret D1-Spec S15 2000 S-864 from Mfg 5: Nissan Club. This is s a good news-bad news situation. The car is very, very fast but also very loose. Fortunately, the usual air in the front tires and stiffening the front sway bar will get it adequately under control to roll over the much slower competition. Riv. 4: Great American. Chevrolet Camaro vs. Ford Mustang. I used the Camaro Z-28 1969 with major upgrades both times. The Shelby GT 500 B 642 from PG 10 Heavy Weight is a better choice but you need to buy a car to race in the PG 10 event before you can get it. If you are based in North America, you also get the Ford Mustang Cobra R 2000 B-647 when you reach Level 20. The Mustang Cobra R 2000 is your top competitor in this race, so it is good to have one yourself. Riv. 5: Rallicross. Mistsubishi Evo vs. Subaru Impreza. You have a choice of two very competitive Mitsubishis or upgrading a Subaru. Your top competitor is rated A-727. You win these eligible cars: Mitsubishi HKS Time Attack Evolution 2006 S 967 from Pro 4: Class A Mitsubishi Sparco Lancer Evo VIII 2003 A 797 from SP 2: Sparco 200HP Subaru Tommy Kaira Impreza M20b 1998 B 642 from SP 1: Under 150 HP Riv. 6: Super Tuner. You win two R4 cars that are competitive for this event. Your top competitor is rated A-798, so either of the R4 cars will do the job. If you are based in Europe, you also have the Ferrari F355 from Level 30. I used the Ferrari the first time and Red Bull Porsche the second time. Nissan Skyline vs. Toyota Supra. You win a pile of Skylines and Supras but the top competitor is rated S-899 so you need something fast to keep up. Slower cars have been eliminated from the list below. Any one of the listed cars is good. I drove the Nissan Skyline GT-R Mines 2002 with upgrades both times. I used the Tiger Racing Z06 #99 2005 R4 the first time and the Dodge Viper GTS ACR 1999 the second time. The Viper ACR required a lot of upgrades. You would do better to use one of the R class cars. The cars you win that are either competitive as they are or can be upgraded to be competitive in this event are listed below. Riv. 10: Pride of Italy. Twelve cylinder Ferrari vs. twelve cylinder Lamborghini. Your top competitor is rated S-931, again you need a fast car to compete. Your choice of cars here depends on whether you want to be merely competitive or blow the field away. From a standpoint of competitive racing, the Lamborghini Diablo GTR 1999 S 869 is the most appropriate car that you win to drive. If you want to win the event as easily as possible though, bests car here is the #12 Risi Competizione R1 class Ferrari. I used the Ferrari 330 P4 1967 the first time (worst available choice) and the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 that I bought for Mfg 10 the second time. I recommend the Murcielago LP 640 for exciting racing. If you don't have the expansion pack cars available, use the Diablo GTR. Cars you win are: Ferrari #12 Risi Competizione F333 SP 1998 R1 from Pro 9: Class R2 Ferrari #62 Risi Competizione F430GT R3 from Fac 9: Ferrari F430 Ferrari 330 P4 1967 S 868 from Mfg 8: Club della Suceria Ferrari Lamborghini Diablo GTR 1999 S 869 from Mfg 10: Furioso ***REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS*** Cars that you win that are eligible for each of these races are listed from best to worst for each event. Always remember though that you can upgrade any car to make it competitive if you prefer something that is not at the top of the list or a car from a lower rated class. Reg 1: Asian Class D. The Honda Wings West Civic Si 2004 384 FWD from PG 6: AWD is the best car you win for this event. I used it both times. Or, you may want to use your starting car if Asia is your home region. Others available if you want more challenge are: Mazda Mazdaspeed Roadster 2001 296 RWD from PG 4: FWD Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex 1985 245 from RWD PG Asian Open Reg 2: Deutsch Class C. I used my starting VW Golf GTi with upgrades the first time. I used it in a lot of events and did a lot of upgrading anyway. You may have the car available even if you don't start the game with it because you have to buy a VW for the Mfg 1: VW Club event. On the other hand, you get the Volkswagen Golf R32 2003 C-455 AWD from Mfg 1 and it is a better ride. I used the Golf R32 the second time through the game. You also have the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 1973 429 from Am 4: Sports Car Classic but the Golf handles better. Reg 3: Japanese Class B. I used the Nissan Tommy Kaira Skyline GT-R R34 2002 665 AWD from Am 3: 6 Cylinder both times. Other available cars are: Toyota Do-Luck Supra 1992 644 RWD from Am 2: Boosted Subaru Tommy Kaira Impreza M20b 1998 642 AWD from SP 1: Under 150 HP Mazda AB Flug RX-7 1995 613 RWD from SP 3: 250HP 10 - 564 Honda Do-Luck NSX 1994 604 RWD from PG 9: Fly Weight <2055 lb Mazda INGS RX-7 1995 586 RWD from Riv 6: Super Tuner Honda Mugen S2000 2003 554 RWD from Am 5. I passed up both of the available B class North American cars for upgraded rides that started out in lower classes. I went with the Acura VIS Racing Integra Type R 2000 the fist time. The second time, I drove a bought Camaro SS 2002 that I made look just like my real life road car. Bought the Camaro SS 2002 just because I felt like it. You do not have to buy a car for this event. Reg 5: British Sports. The event is limited to A class British sports cars. You don't win an eligible car for this event. However, you have to buy the TVR Tuscan for 172,000 cr. for the Fac 6 event and it is a very good car to race here. Reg 6: American Class A. You win two good cars for the event. I went with the Vette because I had it much sooner than the Shelby. Chevrolet Corvette Guldstrand 2003 A-790 from Am 5: American Iron Shelby Series 1 1999 A-737 from Fac 7: Shelby Cobra 30 A-765 Reg 7: Italian Masters. Or, you can wait and win one of the cars listed below. Your top competitor is rated S-954, so you need a very car fast to beat it. I used the Lamborghini Diablo GTR 1999 S-869 the first time and the expansion pack Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 that I bought for Mfg 10 the second time. Otherwise, you will have to remove the upgrades before you can do the Factory Spec event and that does not always work. You win two cars that are required for Factory Spec events(the Porsche 914/6 for the Fac 1 event and the Mazdaspeed Roadster 2001 for the Fac 3 event). Cars must be purchased for the eight other events. Fac 1: Porsche 914/6. Must be Porsche 914/6. You win this in PG 3: European Open. There are only two Professional and Endurance events that are limited more strictly than to just class participation, Pro 8: GT Legends and End 7: Nurburging Porsche 911 GT3. Therefore, this section will be devoted primarily to a run down of vehicles by class that will pertain to both sets of events. But first, the two non-class events. Pro 8: GT Legends. This event is limited to Ford GT40s and Ferrari 330 P4s only. You win the Ferrari in the Mfg 8: Ferrari event and you don't win a GT40 anywhere. Issue settled. I ran the Ferrari both times. End 7: Nurburging Porsche 911 GT3. You win two cars that are eligible for this event. These lists are ranked by performance index but that hardly matters if you are willing to upgrade. Any car in a lower class can be upgraded to be competitive in a higher class. This usually will work for the next two higher classes. If you really like your D Class starter car and have it set up to handle well, you can upgrade it to run in C and B classes, as well as adding the horsepower to compete in a couple of SP events. ***D Class. I recommend the Honda Wings West Civic Si 2004 384 from PG 6: AWD for Pro 1 and End 1. I used it for both events the first time through the game. The second time I made more challenge for myself by upgrading the Porsche 914/6 to run in both events. Other available D class cars, in PI order, are: Chevrolet Camaro Z28 1969 383 from PG 1: North American Mazda Mazdaspeed Roadster 2001 296 from PG 4: FWD Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex 1985 245 from PG Asian Open Porsche 914/6 1970 196 from PG 3: European Open ***C Class. Any of the cars listed below will do the job, although some will need a few upgrades. The top competitor in Pro 2 is C-537 and in End 2 is C-549. I ran the Acura VIS Racing Integra Type-R 2000 from Am 1: Inline 4 in both Pro 2 and End 2 events the first time because I had it early in the game. I added more upgrades to the Porsche 914/6 the second time just so I could do more events with my favorite car. C class cars you win are listed below in PI order. You can also upgrade a D class car as I did. I recommend the Nissan Tommy Kaira Skyline GT-R R34 2002 from Am 3: 6 Cylinder for Pro 3 and End 3. I used it the first time. It handles better than the Lotus or Supra. I upgraded the C class Acura VIS Racing Integra Type R 2000 from Am 1: Inline 4 the second time. B class cars you win are listed below in PI order. You can also upgrade a D or C class car. My choice for both Pro 5 and End 5 the first time I did these events was the 2006 Mitsubishi HKS Time Attack Evolution S-967 from Pro 4: Class A World. It may seem like an odd choice to race against the likes of Ferrari, Maserati, McLaren, and Koenigsegg but the 4WD is the clincher. Upgrade the turbocharger and you will be at the very top of the S class plus have excellent handling. By the second time I did these events, I had the Murcielago LP 640 that I bought for the Mfg 10 event, so I used it. It fits in with the crowd much better visually. The cars within each R class are not all equal. If you add up the speed, acceleration, handling, and braking ratings for each car, you will find that some of them total higher than others and that the difference in scores is reflected in on-track performance, in the relative position of the cars on the car selection screen, and on starting grids. The higher performing cars are always farther to the right on the car selection screen and closer to the front of the starting grid. Keep that in mind when you have a choice of more than one R class car. This is especially important for R classes because these cars cannot be upgraded. You have to race them as they come. If you find yourself starting well back in the grid, it is a sign that you probably should go get a different car. ***R4 Cars. You win ten R4 cars and only have to be at levels 15 and 20 to get the best. Your fastest car for Pro 6 and End 6 is the Porsche #82 Red Bull 911 GT3 Cup 2006 from Mfg 6: Porsche Club. However, I ran one or the other of Vipers #22 and #23 both times for both events because their handling was more stable than the Porsche. R4 class cars you win are listed below in performance order. You will have to buy cars for only the following events: PG 10: Heavy Weight. The car must weigh at least 3850 pounds. On the other hand, the second time I played through the game, I chose the Mistsubishi GTO. 24,000 cr. Even with a lot of upgrades it came out much cheaper than the Scaglietti and, because of the Forza 2 programmers prejudice against having RWD cars handle well, I had superior handling in the AWD GTO. Mfg 1: Volkswagen. This can be your game starting car if you are based in Europe, as it was mine the first time I played. Mfg 10: Club del Toro Furioso. You can run any Lamborghini but you will have to buy it. The Diablo GTR, 236,000 cr., is the fastest but I prefer a Murcielago for its all wheel drive. I chose the basic Murcielago, 214,500 cr. The first time. By the second time I played the game, I had Forza Platinum, the version with more cars available from the expansion packs. The extra cars included the faster Murcielago LP 640 for 229,500 cr., so I used it instead. Both Murcielagos handle really well. Riv. 2: Sport Compact. Toyota Celica vs. Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Toyota APR Performance Celica GTS 2003 is the fastest and best handling eligible car and you will have to race against one but, at 103,500 cr., it also cost much more than the alternatives. You can buy a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 2006 for 13,500 cr. and upgrade it to beat the Toyota APR. That is what I did both times. Reg 5: British Sports. The event is limited to class A British sports cars. You have to buy the TVR Tuscan for 172,000 cr. for the Fac 6 event and that is your car for here also. Reg 9: North American R2. This race is for North American R2 cars. If you are based in North America, you get Saleen #11 Graham Nash Motorsport S7RS R2 for reaching Level 45. If you are based in Europe or Asia, you will have to buy a car. You have a choice of several Corvettes or Saleens, all at 325,000 cr. The Saleens have the edge. Fac 2: Ford Focus - Ford Focus SVT 2003 D 263 9,500 cr. This can be your game starting car if you are based in North America. Fac 4: Lotus Sport Exige - Lotus Exige 69,000 cr. Fac 5: Honda NSX-R - Honda NSX-R 2005 B 637 94,000 cr. Several Honda NSX Rs are available. Be sure to buy the correct one. Fac 6: TVR Tuscan S - TVR Tuscan S 172,000 cr.
