The current command will be shown by the icon at the bottom left of the character's portrait at the bottom left of the screen. Shield icon means "Guard" - bodyguards fight near the player and guard the player. Sword icon means "Attack" - bodyguards fight farther away from the player, and attack more toward enemy generals. Hand icon means "Stand By" - bodyguards stay at the spot where the player gave the command, standing by. They will still fight if attacked, but they won't follow you nor attack by themselves. ■ Concerning Bodyguard Growth ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Bodyguard growth is dependent on the bodyguard type you set. Depending on what weapon type you set your bodyguards to, they grow in different stats. 剣兵 Sword Bodyguards grow generally in all the stats. 槍兵 Spear Bodyguards grow more in 無双 Musou. 戟兵 Halberd Bodyguards grow more in 攻撃 Attack. 弓兵 Arrow Bodyguards grow more in 防御 Defense and Arrow Attack (hidden stat just like for characters. 弩兵 Crossbow Bodyguards grow more in 防御 Defense and Arrow Attack also. If one of the stats of the bodyguard team gets Maxed, that bodyguard team will receive a special Rank Name. 体力 HP Max = 朱雀 Red Sparrow 無双 Musou Max = 青龍 Green Dragon 攻撃 Attack Max = 白虎 White Tiger 防御 Defense Max = 玄武 Black Turtle All attributes highly raised = 黄龍 Yellow Dragon If none of the stats are maxed, the team will receive 修羅 Shura. 朱雀 Red Sparrow Bodyguards attack with the 炎 Flame element. 青龍 Green Dragon Bodyguards attack with the 雷 Thunder element. 白虎 White Tiger Bodyguards attack with the 烈 Blaze element. 玄武 Black Turtle Bodyguards attack with the 氷 Ice element. 黄龍 Yellow Dragon Bodyguards attack with the 斬 Slash element. To achieve 朱雀 Red Sparrow (HP Max), set the team as 剣兵 Sword Bodyguards from beginning to the end. To achieve 青龍 Green Dragon (Musou Max), initially set the team as 剣兵 Sword Bodyguards, then when the new type becomes available switch to 槍兵 Spear Bodyguards. To achieve 白虎 White Tiger (Attack Max), initially set the team as 剣兵 Sword Bodyguards, then when the new type becomes available switch to 戟兵 Halberd Bodyguards. You should achieve Attack Max by around Bodyguard Lv15. To achieve 玄武 Black Turtle (Defense Max), initially set the team as 弓兵 Arrow Bodyguards, then when the new type becomes available switch to 弩兵 Crossbow Bodyguards. You should achieve Defense Max by around Bodyguard Lv10. To achieve 黄龍 Yellow Dragon Bodyguards, there is not a definite set formula, but I have personally achieved it with setting the team as 剣兵 Sword Bodyguards for 4 level ups, 槍兵 Spear Bodyguards for 4 level ups, 戟 兵 Halberd Bodyguards for 4 level ups, 弩兵 Crossbow Bodyguards for 4 level ups, and 弓兵 Arrow Bodyguards for 3 level ups. ■ What is the Highest Level for Bodyguards? ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Level 20. ■ Why is it SSM3 in Japan but DW4 in North America? ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ 1997 Playstation: Sangoku Musou = Dynasty Warriors 2000 Playstation2: Shin Sangoku Musou = Dynasty Warriors 2 2001 Playstation2: Shin Sangoku Musou 2 = Dynasty Warriors 3 2002 Playstation2: Shin Sangoku Musou 2 Moushouden = Dynasty Warriors 3 Xtreme Legends 2003 Playstation2: Shin Sangoku Musou 3 = Dynasty Warriors 4 200X Playstation3: Shin Sangoku Musou X = Dynasty Warriors X+1 ■ What Does "Shin Sangoku Musou" Mean? ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ 真 Shin = Real 三國 Sangoku = Three Kingdoms 無双 Musou = Unrivalled ■ How Come the Game Crashes During the Opening Edit Movie Sequence? ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ It's been reported that some early model Playstation2 consoles will crash during the opening edit movie sequence (mine for one). To remedy this, before you start the game, use the PS2 console to load to a music CD first. Then put in the SSM3 disk and load the game, and the crash problem should be fixed. Once you turn off the PS2 console and turn it on again, the problem will be there again. Repeat the music CD solution each time you turn on the PS2 console. ------------------------------- [ FUN FACTOIDS ] ■ Concerning Degree of Friendliness ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ There is a hidden Degree of Friendliness meter within this game, that keeps a record of personal friendlinesses between allies and hatreds between enemies. Degree of Friendliness fluctuates because of the following elements: 1) when an ally general is struggling in a losing battle and asks for help, you go and help that ally general, the degree of friendliness between the two of you rises 2) when you defeat an enemy general, the degree of friendliness between the two of you drops (in other words the degree of hatred rises) 3) when you defeat the good friend(s) or sibling(s) of a character, your degree of friendliness with that character also drops (for example, if you defeat 夏侯淵 Xiahou Yuan, DoF drops with 夏侯惇 Xiahou Dun; if you defeat 関羽 Guan Yu and 張飛 Zhang Fei, DoF drops with 劉備 Liu Bei; and the same goes with 大喬 Da Qiao and 小喬 Xiao Qiao; etc.) ■ Concerning Ally Playable General Appearing as Bodyguard ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ An ally playable general with a high degree of friendliness with the player character would appear in the battle as the player's bodyguard. Ally character bodyguards appear because of the following elements: 1) the player character has a very high Degree of Friendliness with that ally character 2) that ally character is not present in the current battle by default 3) player character is struggling in a losing battle, with no allies around (bodyguards don't count), and HP in critical red When all of the above are fulfilled, the friendly ally playable character will scream out "(name of character) is here!" or "leave it to me!" or cool quotes similar to those, and appear out of nowhere beside the player character. He or she will appear alone without any personal guard soldiers and start following the player character around and protecting the player character like a bodyguard. He/she will be on foot, with a 6 star morale. And when the player's Musou Gage is full, and this bodyguard character is flashing a big light aura around him, if you activate the Musou attack, it will become a cooperation Musou attack. ■ Concerning the Flame Behind the Character Head Portrait During Battle ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ When there are flames behind the character head portrait of an enemy, the strength of their attacks are multiplied several folds. Sometimes they become strong enough to kill you within a chain of hits. These flames appear because of the following elements: 1) a negative degree of friendliness exist between the two characters concerned 2) the player did things during this battle to enrage them (ex. 劉備 Liu Bei will become enraged if the player defeated 関羽 Guan Yu and/or 張飛 Zhang Fei) 3) that enemy character has a special event or storyline presence in that stage (such as 呂布 Lu Bu in 虎牢関の戦い Battle of Hu Lao Gate) ■ A Trick to Not Lose Duels ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ During a duel, stand against the border fence, and aim your arrow towards the outside of the duel area. You will never get attacked in this condition. Useful when you are about to lose a duel. ■ A Trick to Easily Pass the 石兵八陣 Stone Maze ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Stage - 夷陵の戦い Battle of Yi Ling Side - 呉軍 Wu Scenario You need to be riding on a horse for this trick. Every time you enter a new square of the stone maze, some stone statues either go down to reveal a passage, or some will rise to block a certain passage. This trick deals with the rising stone statues. During the rise of a statue, if you are riding on a horse, you can run onto the top of the statue and still reach the other side. You won't be fast enough to reach the one in your front in time, but you can pass across the rising statues to the right or left sides with no problem with this trick. ■ Concerning the Issue of Cloning ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Case 1: Stage - 天水の戦い Battle of Tian Sui Side - 蜀軍 Shu Scenario Free Mode only Character - 姜維 Jian Wei Do the necessary steps for the enemy 姜維 Jiang Wei to defect, after he defects to your side and becomes an ally general, there will be 2 姜維 Jiang Weis on your side. Case 2: Stage - 荊州攻略戦 Jing Zhou Strategic Battle Side - 蜀軍 Shu Scenario Free Mode only Character - 魏延 Wei Yan Do the necessary steps for the enemy 魏延 Wei Yan to defect, after he defects to your side and becomes an ally general, there will be 2 魏延 Wei Yans on your side. ■ Concerning the Camera Angle of a Character's Ending Pose ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Depending on the last action of the player character before the enemy commander is defeated, the camera angle of the player character's ending pose will change slightly. Action: Defeat enemy commander while in the middle of the 5th charge attack. Camera: Back side of the player character. (very rare) Action: Defeat enemy commander with jump charge attack. Camera: Character is slightly off center towards the right. Action: Defeat enemy commander while in the middle of a musou attack. Camera: Left side of the character. Action: Just before the game ends, an item appears in sight. Camera: Item appears together with the character. Action: Just before the game ends, player character is shot by an arrow. Camera: Feet of the character. ■ Concerning Items Retrieved at the End of the Battle ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ You can only retrieve a maximum of 5 items after each battle. Even if you get 6 items during the battle, only 5 will be received during the evaluation menu after the battle. ------------------------------------- [ BUGS ] ■ Bug at 夷陵の戦い Battle of Yi Ling - Walk In Water ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Side - 呉軍 Wu Side.
