General Gameplay [R1002] Resogun's gameplay is based around the idea of saving humans from alien invaders. To do this, you must pilot your ship and shoot down all enemies in each level. You have multiple weapons at your disposal. The right stick controls your gun, which can be upgraded throughout the game. L1 activates your boost, which can be used to ram into enemies and destroy them. R1 activates Overdrive, an attack that slows your enemies down and gives you a massive laser for a few seconds. L2 lets you throw human. R2 will activate a screenwide bomb that will destroy most enemies. Resogun is played on the surface of a cylinder. You may pilot your ship around this surface with the left stick. There are also green humans inside containers that must be saved. To get a human free, you must destroy certain enemies. You'll hear your controller say, "Keeper detected", which is your clue to search for enemies surrounded by a green glow. Destroying all of those enemies will unlock a human for you to rescue. Be sure to pick up the human quickly, as an invader will eventually come to abduct any humans left alone after a certain time period. Some humans need to be unlocked by destroying enemies in a certain order. You'll notice some enemies have red crosshairs surrounding them. This means you must destroy the enemy with the crosshair. Destroying that enemy will cause the crosshair to move to the next enemy, and so on until all have been destroyed. These can be the most frustrating enemies because you may end up destroying them in an incorrect sequence. The best way to avoid this is to memorize when these enemies will pop up. Humans can be killed in several ones. Abducting, as mentioned earlier, is one way to lose a human. Another way to lose a human is by dropping it down a hole, like the ones on Mefitis. A third way involves an enemy destroying your ship while you are carrying a human. Although your ship's destruction won't necessarily kill your human, a high enough drop will. Saving humans consists of destroying the keepers, flying your ship over the human, and then flying near a UFO-like object on the top of the playfield. You may also press L2 to throw a human into the UFO's beam. To advance to different worlds, you will destroy enemies. The blue bar on the bottom of your screen is separated into three segments. Filling a segment will complete a level in that world. After beating all three levels in that world, you'll encounter a boss level. Defeating that boss will lead you to the next world. At the end of each level is a boss. Each boss has 3 health bars that you must wear down. Bosses are generally much easier on Rookie difficulty, and their attack patterns will change as the difficulty is raised. Your difficulty level limits the maximum your multiplier can reach. Rookie is limited to 5x, Experienced is 10X, Veteran is 15x and Master is 20x. Enemies will also get tougher and faster as difficulty increases, so maintaining your multiplier will get harder. ---------------------------------------------- 2.) Walkthrough [R3000] ---------------------------------------------- *Note: Before we begin, let us go over some tips for playing Resogun. Start on Rookie difficulty! Make sure to use each ship at least once to get a handle on how it fits your playing style. Knowing your ship's abilities will make beating the higher difficulty modes much easier. Practice makes perfect. It will take a few playthroughs to really get a handle on enemy placement and patterns. Don't forget about boosting. It can save you in a tight spot, as well as rack up points. Bombs will do the same, but you only have a limited supply. Your Overdrive is incredibly powerful and will eliminate enemies quickly. Those little green cubes you see after you destroy an enemy will refill your Overdrive meter, that green semicircle surrounding your ship (the blue semicircle is boost). There are 10 humans in each level. Saving a human will give you some kind of benefit, like a bomb, points, or an upgrade. Saving all 10 humans gets you bonus points, as well as a trophy. This walkthrough can only help you so much. Remembering enemy attack patterns and placement will help you get through the game much more quickly, and with higher scores and less lives lost. _________________________ World 1 - Acis [R3001] _________________________ ========== Level 1 -Humans: 3 ========== -The first human will come after the first few waves of enemies. -This level may be hard to keep your multiplier on because of how few enemies there are. Remember to use boost to travel distances quickly. You may also want to refrain from saving a human immediately after picking one up, in case you need to keep your multiplier going and there are no enemies around. In order to keep a human on your ship, simply fly underneath the green beam from the UFO. Flying into the beam will save that human. ========== Level 2 -Humans: 5 ========== -The first human will appear almost instantly. -This level also has the first set of enemies surrounded by red crosshairs. They will be the fourth set of Keepers detected, so take care not to destroy them without hitting them in the correct order. -This level contains similar basic enemies from the first level. Keep in mind that boosting will destroy many enemies at once, and the more enemies you destroy, the faster your boost gauge will fill. ========== Level 3 -Humans: 2 ========== -This level contains a few strings of enemies that are great for destroying by boosting through them. There are also a few walls of enemies where boosting will help you considerably. Practice your boosting here, because it may end up saving you later on. -This is another level where it is very easy to lose your multiplier. Make sure to keep track of where enemy groups have spawned in case you need to quickly backtrack and destroy some enemies to keep your multiplier going. ========== Boss ========== -This boss is a cakewalk on Rookie difficulty. Destroy the 3 green areas on the outside to cause it to open up. Make sure you're consistently moving on the higher difficulty levels. This boss will spew lasers nonstop. -Once you've opened it up, you'll have to destroy a few more inner pieces. Simply fly inside and shoot these pieces. Keep an eye out for the inner lasers. Once you see the red lines go solid, stay in between them or you'll be destroyed. On higher difficulty levels, destroying the pieces will cause the inner circle to rotate 180 degrees. Make sure you aren't close to the inner circle or you'll be destroyed when it spins. -After destroying all the inner green pieces, shoot the core to destroy the boss. _________________________ World 2 - Ceres [R3002] _________________________ ========== Level 1 -Humans: 4 ========== -You will see your first hole on this level. Keep in mind that if you're destroyed above a hole holding a human, that human will die. -This level will increase the enemy count from the previous world, as well as include more ground-based enemies. These enemies will spew lasers into the air, which can be hard to avoid. Either take them out first, or use the boost to get through. ========== Level 2 -Humans: 4 ========== -This level contains the red crosshair enemies that must be destroyed in a specific order. They will pop up after the third set of Keepers. -The end of this level can destroy your multiplier bonus. Keep track of enemies towards the end of the level in order to keep your multiplier going. -You will be introduced to slow moving enemies who are stronger than basic enemies. They move in close-knit pattern shaped like a square with it's sides sucked in. An easy way to destroy them quickly is to boost into the middle of them and sort-of sit there. Your boost will suck enemies into your ship, destroying them. The enemies destroyed, the larger the field of destruction will become. Make sure you practice this move considerably. It will help keep you from being destroyed by their mass of laser fire, and it will help your score. ========== Level 3 -Humans: 2 ========== -This level is similar to the first two in this world. -One set of Keepers I missed on my first few playthroughs are the ground enemies. Either boost through a few of them or shoot them down one at a time to unlock a human to save. ========== Boss ========== -This boss has four glowing green areas you must destroy. Destroying one will cause the disc to rotate in the opposite direction. -This boss will attempt to destroy you will a flamethrower every so often, so make sure to avoid it when the red lines go solid. -On harder difficulties, this boss will continually spray you with lasers. Try to stay near the top or bottom while concentrating fire on the green areas. Remember that you can boost through the lasers without harm if you think you're about to get hit. -On harder difficulties, you'll have to face a second form after destroying all four glowing areas. The boss will bounce up and down for a few seconds while peppering you with fire. It will then open up to reveal two green areas while showering you with missiles. Again, remember to boost. As it fires its first wave of missiles, pull your ship back. As soon as the second wave fires, boost forward to destroy both waves at once. That should help to give you a second or two of missile-free time. _________________________ World 3 - Decima [R3003] _________________________ ========== Level 1 -Humans: 4 ========== -This level contains a red crosshair set of Keepers. They will be the last set of Keepers on this level. -You will be introduced to a new set of enemies here. Of note are the jumping spiders that can make it a pain to traverse the level when there are dozens of enemies on-screen, and the blue snowflake-shaped enemies. These enemies, when destroyed, will place a blue circular pattern on the playfield. This will freeze any enemies that fly into that blue circle. ========== Level 2 -Humans: 4 ========== -This level will also contain a set of red crosshair Keepers. They will be the second set of Keepers on this level. Boosting through them will help you stay on track. -This level contains numerous circular groupings of enemies. The boost and sit technique will help you destroy them easily and safely. ========== Level 3 -Humans: ========== -This level will be similar to the previous two, but it will throw more enemies at one time at you. ========== Boss ========== -This boss will shoot lasers from every direction at once. Simply shoot at the cube to damage it. -After a certain amount of damage, the cube will "shed" and launch blue pieces at you. These pieces can either be ignored or shot at. Shooting them will boost your multiplier and add to your Overdrive meter. It may also be helpful to utilize your Overdrive for this boss as it will easily cut the blue pieces down quickly. -On harder difficulties, this boss will continually dump lasers on you from all angles. Shoot from a distance and keep moving to avoid them. _________________________ World 4 - Febris [R3004] _________________________ ========== Level 1 -Humans: 3 ========== -This level contains red crosshair Keepers. They will be the second set of Keepers you must destroy. -This level introduces another set of new enemies. I strongly recommend getting a lot of practice on this level on Rookie. Harder difficulties will surround you with enemies and laser fire from all angles. Make sure to destroy entire groups of enemies, and leave no stragglers. ========== Level 2 -Humans: 5 ========== -Use the same techniques from Level 1. Destroy enemies group by group, and don't be afraid to boost. Try to beat the level without using bombs, but make sure to use one if you're in serious trouble. ========== Level 3 -Humans: 2 ========== -This level will contain a lot of enemies in circular groups. Use the boost and sit technique to destroy the enemy groupings behind you while you fire forward and destroy the enemies in front with your laser. ========== Boss ========== -This boss is similar to the previous boss. Simply shoot the sphere while avoiding the missile groupings it shoots at you. -Overdrive will be very effective on this boss once you destroy parts of the outer sphere and reveal its red inside. -On harder difficulties, this boss will cover you in missiles. Use the boost to destroy the missile groupings while continually firing at the sphere. _________________________ World 5 - Mefitis [R3005] _________________________ ========== Level 1 -Humans: 2 ========== -This level, and this world, will likely be the hardest for you to beat. On Rookie, there will be a near continual stream of enemies. On the higher difficulty levels, this world is plain evil. -There are some new enemies of note in this level. You'll immediately notice the flaming boulders coming from the lava pit. These will spawn constantly, so be aware of them as you're flying through the level. They will make it easier for you to keep your multiplier going. -You'll also encounter a set of enemies that dash horizontally across the screen. Make sure you destroy enough of these enemies to avoid being hit by them. They won't move vertically, so as long as you clear out a single line of them, you won't get hit. ========== Level 2 -Humans: 5 ========== -Use the techniques from the previous world. Destroy enemy groupings one by one to help keep enemy laser fire to a minimum. Move somewhat slowly to ensure you don't get hit by a stray laser. ========== Level 3 -Humans: 3 ========== -Level 3 will keep you covered in fire. There will be several walls of enemies in this level, so remember the boost and sit technique to help get you through this level. -The last set of Keepers here will be of the red crosshair variety. -There are several larger enemies in this level. Boosting through them will destroy them instantly as well as create a small explosion around them that will destroy any enemies near it. Use this to your advantage to clear out small pockets. This level will likely frustrate you, so keep practicing it. ========== Boss ========== -The boss in this level is a giant worm-like creature. Simply fire away at it while flying in the opposite direction. -The next attack the boss will throw at you consists of numerous tentacles rising and falling vertically on the screen. You'll see a red outline before the tentacle appears. You can boost through these tentacles, so avoid the red lines and boost your way to safety. Remember to keep firing away at those tentacles. -The boss will then form into a multi-headed beast and surround you with laser fire. Boost through the lasers and keep shooting at it. -The boss will then pop in and out of the screen with its tentacles. You'll see red circles on your screen, and then a tentacle will pop through. Avoid the tentacles (you can boost through them) and keep shooting at what tentacles appear. -The boss will then turn into a worm again and start moving around the playfield. Again, keep attacking it while avoiding/boosting through the laser fire. If you have any bombs left or unused Overdrive. Make sure you use it now to help speed the process along. -This boss can be very tough, especially on the higher difficulties. If you continue to have trouble, check a few videos online to see how others have beat it. You could also try a different ship and see if that is a better fit for your playing style. I know it doesn't make the game any easier, but, practice makes perfect, and you will likely need quite a lot of practice to consistently beat this boss. ---------------------------------------------- 4.)
