~ No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either! ~ for PlayStation Vita "Hero & Monster Guide" Guide Author: Xeigrich Guide e-mail: xeigrich_faqs@ymail.com Guide Update: June 12, 2014 This guide should only be found at GameFAQs. Monsterpedia with Monster Mixing Mini Guide 5. FAQs and Miscellaneous Tips 1. HERO TYPES ======================================================================= ***The hero types are not named anywhere in the game or its digital manual. The types named here are simply my own personal best guesses at what the heroes look like. It doesn't really matter what you call the types, just know there are 5 basic types and 5 Super Rare types, and each type is clearly recognizable and distinguishable from the other 9 types. -Basic Types- DWARF.....Short, bearded, armored hero with an axe and shield. WARRIOR...Tall armored hero with a curved sword and shield. MAGE......Robed hero with a large pointy hat. DRUID.....Robed hero with a hooked staff. CLERIC....Tall hero with cross designs, hat and spear. -Super Rares- MONK......Bulky, bald hero wearing a single-shoulder robe. NINJA.....Masked hero with a straight sword. PIRATE....One-eyed hero with hook hand and long curved sword. WITCH.....Floating hero with long hair and an orb. WIZARD....Robed hero with long hair, no weapon or hat. 2. STAGE LINEUP ====================================================================== ***Each area has a set of shared, common (Rarity "N") heroes which may appear in any of that area's 8 stages. It seems that certain common heroes are more likely to appear on certain stages, with regard to where the hero is on the bar at the bottom of the stage select screen, but I haven't been able to confirm. You will likely notice one or two heroes that only seem to show up on a later or earlier stage, or that one or two particular heroes seem to constantly show up on a particular stage, which is a huge annoyance when trying to capture a different hero. Commons will only appear as a stage's first or second random hero, as the third hero of each individual stage is always that stage's specific boss (Rarity "B"). Rares ("R") are normal hero types but have silver sparkles and only appear as the 2nd random hero. Super Rares ("SR") have gold sparkles, only appear as the 2nd random hero, and are always one of the special hero types: Monk, Ninja, Pirate, Witch or Wizard. Note that you can only encounter one Rare OR one Super Rare per match, but most matches will just have two common heroes. ***On the stage select screen, the bar along the bottom lists the common heroes. Each stage shows the Rare, Super Rare and Boss for that stage. Question marks are heroes who have not been encountered yet. Grayed-out heroes have been encountered before, but are not currently in your possession. Lit-up heroes are currently in your hero storage or are currently at work in the mines. You can never capture a duplicate individual hero without first deleting or using up the original. ***All hero names listed without spaces! MONSTERPEDIA WITH MONSTER MIXING MINI-GUIDE =========================================================================== ***READ THIS FIRST!!!*** This game is filled with inconsistencies, errors, confusing orders, and general gaps in information. This list presented here is taken straight from the game's Monsterpedia which fills in as you collect and evolve different monsters. You must be aware of a few very important points: 1. I list all monster names WITHOUT SPACES. The tiny font used by the game makes it difficult to tell which words are seperated by spaces, so if you are searching for a monster name, spell it WITHOUT SPACES. Example... BAD: "American Slimemoss", GOOD: "AmericanSlimemoss" 2. The game uses two different names for the damage a monster can deal. Attack is the stat listed in the Monsterpedia and is the BASE damage for that monster at level 1. It is also shown as increasing during the monster leveling and evolution screens, but this is more accurately Strength. Strength is the monster's actual, level-adjusted damage rating. This is shown when you hold (long-press) on a monster's icon in the Order Horde or Monster Mixing menus. Strength is clearly higher on monsters that are leveled up (except some, like the pure types, which do not get stronger at all). Example: 215 ShinDragon's Attack is 66, Strength at Max level is 83. 218 Hydra's Attack is 58, Strength at Max level is 87. Therefore, the Monsterpedia implies that ShinDragon would be a more powerful monster, but it gains less power from leveling up than the Hydra does. Hydra's Strength increases from a lower base Attack of 58 up to a massive 87 when fully leveled. Unfortunately, there is no way to see a monster's max Strength without leveling it up and checking the results. Just remember this: STRENGTH is the deciding factor, but ATTACK is in the Monsterpedia. 3. Using the "Recommended" button in the Order Horde menu will fill your party with the monsters that have the highest STRENGTH for each of the 5 color slots. Again, Attack is ignored because it is the base rating for a level 1 monster. Horde Strength at the top of the Badman's Lair screen clearly shows all 5 monsters' Strengths added together. 4. Several monsters are out of order in terms of types and evolution lines. I do not know if this was intentional on the game developer's or localization team's parts, but I list the monsters strictly in the ORDER THE IN-GAME MONSTERPEDIA LISTS THEM. That is, by NUMBER. Any other errors that are obvious in the game are listed where necessary. 5. Evolutionary lines often branch. Monsters with multiple possible evolutions are simply listed with multiple lines below them. All standard evolutions are the first line (or only line), which come from the heroes shown in the Monster Mixing screen when that monster is at MAX level for it's current form. Whenever possible, use a one star monster to begin an alternate evolution line so that you don't miss out on earlier evolutions of the alternate line. This can be useful, though, if you don't care about filling out your whole Monsterpedia. Evolve a monster to four stars normally, then evolve it with the desired alternate line's hero to get the alternate four star monster. Then, evolve it once more to five stars, and you have just skipped the alternate line's one, two and three star forms which can save MAJOR time grinding to capture some Super Rare heroes. Again, do this ONLY if you have no intention of filling up your Monsterpedia. 6. Heroes, especially Super Rares, need to be at least level 30 to start an alternate evolution line. This applies most importantly to one star monsters, and evolved monsters may require even higher levels to branch off. I make no guarantees of levels needed to branch an evolved monster onto an alternate line as I always branched my monsters at one star and continued from there, which is the safest route if you want to fill up the Monsterpedia. Once branced onto an alternate line, the monster is stuck on that evolutionary line and the hero(es) needed for the next evolution are shown if the monster is at max experience level (10). ***Strength and max special percentages are not listed here for monsters that evolve when reaching max experience level as these monsters are technically different monsters once at max experience. ***Stars (just * in the list below) are a representation of a monster's evolutionary stage. Most monsters have five total stages, but many do not evolve at all and are listed as "X" (no stars), and a few evolve only one, two, or three times. FAQS AND MISCELLANEOUS TIPS =========================================================================== ***Potency This is a sort of currency. You gain Potency by beating stages, with better rewards based on the stage and your performance rating. It's used up when leveling or evolving monsters and can get eaten up by the thousands with some of the higher level and rarer monsters. If you need to rack up more Potency, all you can do is try to get S+ ratings on the hardest stages you can beat. That, or spend "COLD HARD CASH!!!" on a Potency boost item from the PSN store if you're into that (not included in the Mega Pack). ***Specials I'll be honest here, I never use monsters with Special effects in my team. Raw damage, skill at chaining combos, and a bit of luck and timing will get you through the game, no sweat. Thus, I apologize if any of this info is inaccurate. Some monsters, mostly alternate evolutions, have Special effects when you combine them in a match. Sleep and Paralysis both stop a hero from attacking, which includes putting "blocking blocks" on your game area as well as killing off the monsters sent out to attack the hero. If there is a difference between the two, I haven't noticed it. Poison does extra damage over a short time, which can help kill heroes faster and in turn shorten your match times (if you're interested in score and ratings). Nutritious is an odd special effect that, as far as I can tell, simply increases the chance of sparkly monster blocks appearing. If this is actually the case, this effect may be the most useful overall since sparkly monster blocks themselves are amazingly helpful. NOTE: Boss heroes appear to be immune to Sleep, Paralysis and Poison. ***Best Monsters? As noted above, I don't use monsters with Special effects in my team, so I can't give advice on that. But here is the team I use which is the 5 highest rated monsters in raw Strength for pure damage: --> BigPsycho, Leviathomnom, CharmingChest, Supremanoid, Hydra <-- This team has a Horde Strength of 409, the highest possible. If you prefer, you can use Mara instead of Supremanoid as they both have the same Strength damage when maxed out. For some reason, the game puts higher priority on Supremanoid and picks that over Mara when using the Recommended button, so there may be hidden stats at play. ***Block Types NOTE: All blocks except for Permanent Blocks can be slid left or right into an unoccupied spot. All blocks except for Permanent Blocks and Blocking Blocks can be tapped to destroy them, leaving an unoccupied spot for a moment before blocks above fall into place.
-Monster Block: Match 3 or more vertically or horizontally, including
intersections also of 3 or more blocks, to leave behind one upgraded
block and send one or more monsters to the battle on the side of the
screen. The more blocks matched at once, the more monsters are sent
over. Consecutive matches without destroying a block results in combos,
which greatly increase the number of monsters sent over. Upgrades occur
in the order of your monster team: Green > Blue > Red > Teal > Purple.
Purple (Dragon) blocks do not leave behind an upgraded block.
-Sparkly Monster Block: Can be matched like a regular Monster Block, or
destroyed to upgrade surrounding Monster Blocks instantly as well as
destroy Blocking Blocks nearby.
-Blocking Block: Placed in various arrangements by the attacking hero.
These typically replace the monster blocks when they appear, shown by
a flashing/spinning red square, at the end of the attack countdown above
the heroes head. Some special heroes use purple (or pink??) flashing
squares to create blocking blocks, which can be canceled by breaking the
regular block before the blocking block shows up. Blocking blocks can be
destroyed by matching Dragon (tier 5) blocks, using a Dragon Egg
Underhand Item, or by matching any 3 or more blocks directly adjacent to
them. In later stages, the game starts with some Blocking Blocks already
in place, limiting your initial options.
-Permanent Blocks: These nasty buggers are in place right from the start
of most Hard Mode stages to limit your playing area. They can't be moved.
They can't be destroyed. Thankfully, no hero ever adds more to the play
area. You just have to learn to play around them. Sorry!

***Hard Mode
Once you beat Stage 8-8, you can input the code LRLRLRLRLR on the title
screen to toggle on Hard Mode. You'll know it's on since the sky and
world map appear dark like night time. You can put in the code to unlock
the trophy before beating Stage 8-8, but Hard Mode will NOT unlock until
you beat Stage 8-8. Also, don't worry, you can turn off Hard Mode at any
time by returning to the title screen and inputting the same code again.

Hard Mode stages are identical to the original stages in every way except
that all heroes have increased HP, seem to hit a little harder and more
often, and any hero encountered in a match is guaranteed 100% to be
captured if you beat the stage. Also, Permenent Blocks are present to
limit the play area as an additional challenge; you just have to learn
to work around them, unfortunately. Each stage in Hard Mode must be
beaten to progress to the next one, just like your first time through
regular mode. Hard Mode is the most reliable way to grind for heroes if
you are confident at beating the stages without using too many Dragon Eggs
or Flux Incapacitators. Learn to slide blocks over with the right timing
to chain combos together for massive damage or plan on wasting a lot of
items!

***Hero Grinding
If you have unlimited picks (via paid DLC unlock), the easiest way to get
the heroes goes like this:
1. Look up which stage has the hero you need
2. Start the stage, and check the heroes that walk across the screen
3. If you don't see the hero you need, immediately quit the match as
soon as it starts (when the blocks show up) and restart the stage
4. When you see your hero walk across the screen, continue on to beat
   the stage like normal
5. Use a Lilith's Song if you have one when the hero you need is the
one you're attacking; for Hard Mode, capture rate is 100% anyway
The problem with this method is also a problem in the game itself... Some
heroes, especially Super Rares, may just not show up for a dozen or two
matches in a row. By quitting as soon as you don't see your hero, you save
the effort and time of finishing the stage with absolutely no penalty.
Quitting does not count as a Loss, in case that may bother you.
Even so, you will have to restart over and over and over and there's
nothing you can do to get a specific hero to show up other than making
sure you are choosing the correct stage. The other problem with this
method is that you are not completing matches and that means you aren't
earning Potency (needed to level/evolve monsters) or other heroes.

NOTE: Don't waste Lilith's Songs. Save them for Super Rares and as a
last resort for filling up the Heropedia. They are by far the rarest of
the "Underhand Items". If you are good enough to play confidently on
Hard Mode, you don't really need them at that point.

***Mining
Put the highest "dig rank" heroes you have into the mine as long as you
don't need them immediately for evolution. Keep in mind that the hero's
level doesn't matter, just dig rank. You can spend "COLD HARD CASH!!!" on
a "DigFast" DLC item, but it's temporary and unnecessary if you have a full
team of S+ ranked heroes, which you should be able to round up around Area
7, when heroes start hitting level 75. When on the Mine screen, tap chests
that appear to get either a Loot item which is used only for leveling up
monsters, or an "Underhand Item" used to make stages easier. These are the
Dragon Egg that destroys all of the "blocking blocks" on the screen, the
Flux Incapacitator (stop watch) that resets the timer but only works ONCE
per match, and the Lilith's Song which guarantees the capture of the hero
you use it on. Monster pods occasionally appear and each one gives you a
random unevolved monster.

The quality and frequency of loot as well as the rarity of monsters
obtained is loosely tied to the mine's depth, displayed in KM at the top
right of the Mine screen. There's no way to tell what depth is needed
for certain things to appear, but I will say that I was at nearly 700 KM
by the time I'd completed this guide including filling the Monsterpedia
and Heropedia and beating Hard Mode Stage 8-8. Some of the rarer monsters
didn't appear until after 300 to 500 KM for me.

The general method for grinding in the Mine is to simply let the game sit
and wait for heroes to randomly dig things up. It's best to plug the Vita
in and change the system sleep timer to something long like 30 minutes as
the game pauses when the Vita goes to sleep. Keep an eye on the screen,
tap heroes that fall asleep with ZZZ above their head, and pop open chests
and monster pods as you notice them. When the heroes reach the bottom of
the screen, back out to the world map or Monster Mixing screen, then bring
the Mine screen up again to refresh it. Patience (or a distraction like
watching TV) is key here.

Monster pods are completely random, so expect to be frustrated when getting
the same useless monsters over and over when you really want one of the
rarer or more powerful monsters. The only tip for getting monsters is to
let your Mine get as deep as possible. Also, don't hesitate to repeatedly
delete all of your Loot items as your inventory fills up while grinding
for monsters for extended periods. You can always collect more Loot in no
time at all when you need it later. It's annoying to have Badmella
remind you every time you open a chest that your inventory is full, and
you don't want to miss out on valuable Underhand Items by skipping over
chests entirely.

***Trophies
I'm not covering trophies in this guide as the list is easily found on
GameFAQs, PlaystationTrophies.org (under its Japanese title, "Yu-Nama: the
Puzzle"), and various other sources. My only advice is to follow the
grinding tips above, and don't bother unless you at LEAST have bought the
unlimited picks DLC/unlock. For best results, buy the Mega Pack for $10 in
"COLD HARD CASH!!!" as it includes all of the unlock and inventory related
DLC, allowing you to store more heroes, more monsters, and keep more
heroes in the mine. Even though this is called a Free-to-Play game, it's
more like a restricted demo with the $10 pack unlocking the "full game".
Your toughest trophies will be to complete the Monsterpedia, complete the
Heropedia, and to beat the final Hard Mode stage. Everything else will
come with patience.

That's it. Thanks for using my guide. Have fun and happy hero hunting!
