INTRODUCTION =============================================================================== Here is what you may or may not need to know about Yo' Bro! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A1. My Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyone who has read my guides know about my biasedness toward the Turbo Grafx 16. Yes, I absolutely adore the system. Whenever I brag about the system, I state how I own Bonk's Adventure/Revenge, Bomberman, Tale Spin, Cybercore, and a few others. Among them, is Yo' Bro, which is one of the greatest games I have ever played. Yo' Bro features one main character: Little Bro. This dude is a bear with a 'tude. He shreds on his skateboard, and is armed with a slingshot! The mascot of the Beach Boys is ready to save the kids of California with all his might. Wish the enemies luck - they may get a rock to the skull! The one and only flaw in the game would be the minor graphics glitching that can occur when moving along the streets in the first few stages. You get really used to it fast, and you find yourself having the time of your life trying to defeat Lighters, Earthquake Machines, and Multiplying Rabbits! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A2. Booklet Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to Camp California, dudes! Get ready for a totally radical skateboarding adventure! Professor Liverhosen, an evil scientist with a bad attitude, has released his most fearsome creations upon California. As Little Bro, the skateboarding bear, your job is to chill this guy out, rescue your friends and save California. You'll have to skate like crazy, though. Starting out with a slingshot and a few grenades, these streets are going to be plenty "bumpy." Incredible animation, 4 authentic Beach Boy tunes and great gameplay make this the far-out action hit you've been waiting for. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A3. Object of the Game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Destroy Professor Liverhosen's evil creations and save California. Use your weapons and skateboarding skills to advance through all levels of the game. protext your friends ("Kids") and rescue as many of them as you can. Collect extra weapons and take advantage of Secret Rooms, "Warps", Bonus Rounds and Dream Sequences. Score as many points as possible! Note: Yo' Bro is a two player game. =============================================================================== B. MISCELLANEOUS =============================================================================== The stuff that didn't fit anywhere else are here! Read away! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C1. Enemy Listing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are the "Evils" that appear during the game. Many are made up of two parts - a base (for example the Bee Hive) and mobile Evils (for example the Bees). Both must be destroyed to clear the level! KILLER PLANTS These monsters spit out dangerous "spinach balls" and are tough to kill off. They will "regenerate" their hitpoints and grow back into full-size plants if left alone! MAN-EATING BEES Composed of a hive and a swarm. While the hive doesn't move, it unleashes swarms of Man-Eating Bees. These Bees home-in on the closest Kid or Bro and leave nothing but the bones. DINO EGGS These are carried in by the Ratz and start growing right before your very eyes. When they hatch, they search you out and swallow you whole! INVADING ALIENS Composed of Mother ships and Aliens. While the Mother ships are landing scores of aliens invade California. Armed with laser guns, they're after the kids and Little Bro. BUNNY RABBITS These cute little rodents can cut you down in size in seconds! Plus, they multiply! TORNADO MACHINES These release dozens of tornadoes that can sweep you off your feet and destroy you! TOXIC WASTE Carried in by the Ratz, these drums of chemicals spring a leak, creating a puddle on the ground. If you touch this puddle in any way, you will be destroyed. VOLCANOES These evil creations are also carried onto the screen by the Ratz. They start out small, but soon grow to rock-spewing mountains (these rocks are aimed, so watch out). ROBOTS Programmed to hunt down and kill the Kids, these Robots are very fast and require many hits to kill. LIGHTERS AND FIRES Don't play with these. Get rid of them as quick as you can! ZOMBIES This Evil is actually composed of a Mausoleum and the Zombies who live there. The Zombies are very fast, and the Mausoleum is tough to destroy. Watch out for the fire-spitting Gargoyle on top! EARTHQUAKE MACHINES These huge devices pound the ground untila dangerous crevice apears in the concrete. With each "thump", the crack gets larger. If you fall in, you're a goner! MECHANOIDES They're big, but at least they don't move. Watch out for Bro-seeking lightning bolts which travel along the ground. GIANT AMOEBAS carried out by the Ratz, these creatures quickly grow. When they are full-size, they "split" into two. Yikes!! GIANT ANTS These guys are very fast and can gobble up a Kid in seconds. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C2. Weaponry ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Look for these weapons scattered throughout the game. They will increase your firepower. STANDARD SLINGSHOT You start the game with this weapon and an unlimited supply of ammo. It's slow but accurate, (have your Turbo-Switches up for this weapon.) RAPID SLINGSHOT Works like the Standard Slingshot but fires at a much faster rate. 3-WAY SLINGSHOT Fires 3 small rocks at once, at a wide angle. MEGA SLINGSHOT Fires a large, double-damage rock. FREEZE BEAM GUN Fires a beam of pure, cold energy which freezes anything it hits. The length of time an enemy is frozen depends upon that particular enemy. ROCKET LAUNCHER TYPE 1 (no tail fins) Fires a small rocket in a straight line. Destroys whatever it hits and leaves behind an explosion. ROCKET LAUNCHER TYPE 2 (2 tail fins) Seeks out the closest Evil or Muscle Dog and destroys it. Often needs no aiming! ROCKET LAUNCHER TYPE 3 (3 tail fins) Fires 2 rockets in a back and forth pattern. GRENADE TYPE 1 You start the game with this type of grenade. These grenades explode upon impact. GRENADE TYPE 2 These grenades create a Freeze Explosion. Anything this explosion touches, freezes instantly. GRENADE TYPE 3 Similar to Grenade Type 1, but the explosion is much larger. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C3. Tips and Tricks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When fighting bees, aliens, tornadoes and other Evils that have "home bases," try to destroy the base first, so you can prevent more enemies from being born or released. The small flames from the lighters do not travel far. Move in closer for a better shot at the lighters themselves. The Robots are very tough and destroying them requires the stronger weapons. The Rocket Launcher Type 3 is not effective in small, closed in areas of the background. =============================================================================== D.
