More then five years ago I played this game almost everyday to an obsessive exent. This guide is here just as a tribute to it. I beleive Blazing Lasers has come out for the Super Nintendo and the Turbo Grafx 16, but I am only doing an FAQ for the Turbo Grafx version. It really should not make any bit of difference because they are the exact same versions. Please Note that the way I split up the different weapons was with levels. After getting a certain amount of pinkish/purplish orbs that come out of certain enemies, you level will "level up" or upgrade, and you will get a (in most cases) more powerful version of the weapon. This is the same for when you have the firepower upgrade. <=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=> | Part II: | | Version History | <=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=> Version 1.0 ----------- December 3, 2003 This is the only version, and the finished version of the FAQ. Everthing is here. Please note that I have lost the manual, and are not sure of the official names of the weapons. This means I will make up most of the names based on what they look like/ what I think they should be named. This could get interesting. <=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=> | Part III: | | Power-Up Explaination/List | <=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=> This section will explain every power-up that is possible to get in the game. It seems like a daunting task at first because of the huge amount of power-ups. Soon however, you will see which combinations get you certain power-ups. If you follow the guide, and don't understand yet how it works, you will also see that it is quite simple. First we need a basic understanding of how they work. Then I will go into detail. There are two basic weapon types. I will call them weapons, and enhancments. Weapons are actual weapons that you shoot out of your ship, and enhancements either give your ship something, or supply you with an enhanced weapon. You may only have one weapon and one enhancement at a time. Meaning you can't have a sheild and firepower upgrades at the same time. BASIC WEAPONRY: --------------- The four types of basic weapons are split up into separate groups. Keep in mind that these weapons have four different levels of power each. A problem arises when one power gets to a certain level, when in actuality, the previous level would have helped you more. I will give every type a rating of usefulness and a word or two of when you should get this weapon level. Weapon Type (I): Bullets =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 1 The level 1 bullet is one stream of bullets that shoot out of the front of your ship. You can only shoot one at a time, and it is unfortunate, but this weapon will not help you a single bit. USEFULNESS SCALE: 0/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 2 The level 2 bullet actually increases the accuracy and overall usefulness of level one with one simple addition, a second bullet paralell to the one first. This gives you slightly wider range, and an overall better shot. USEFULNESS SCALE: 1/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 3 Level three improves upon level 2 only slightly. It adds a single bullet that shoot out of the back of the ship. This bullet can hit some enemies you would not evpect and can also be a life-saver, but overall the bullet only helps a small amount. USEFULNESS SCALE: 2/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 4 Level four shoots two bullets out of the bottom of the ship going diagonally left and right, They are perpendicular to one another. This Does effectively kill more enemies, but it is infrequent and overall just the same as level 3 with small improvement. USEFULNESS SCALE: 2/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 5 This shoots two bullets to the front, two from either side of the ship and one to the bottom of the ship. Average usefulness. USEFULNESS SCALE: 3/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Weapon Type (II): Waves =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 1 This shoots a single stream of waves to the top of the screen from the ship. USEFULNESS SCALE: 2/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 2 This adds one wave that is shot from the back of the ship that then reverts directions, and goes to the front. Does nothing to help. USEFULNESS SCALE: 2/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 3 This large step makes two waves come perpendicularly from the front of your ship. Notice, if you turn, the opposite wave of the way you turned goes sraight up. Use this to your advantage. USEFULNESS SCALE: 4/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 4 This weapon will be similar to level 3 wave, but there is one addition. Instead of just one extra wave comeing along the bottom of the ship, there are three. They will not effect the overall weapon because they are so minor. USEFULNESS SCALE: 4/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 5 This weapon adds a third row of waves that come up. The weapon is also unmatched by anything except the best weaponry. This is an amazing weapon. USEFULNESS SCALE: 5/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Weapon Type (III): Laser Beams =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 1 A single blue wave streaking across the screen. This sounds horrific, but it is not bad especially since this weapon is only the first upgraded version. USEFULNESS SCALE: 2/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 2 This makes a laser that has a circle along a line of laser. Meh, it's kind of hard to explain. It is overall just as useful as the original level because this weapon is slow. USEFULNESS SCALE: 2/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 3 This laser is very very good. I recommend keeping this incantation of the laser and trying not to upgrade enough to go farther. It gives you a nice standard attack with laser coming out of th back of your ship and circling around. This 'defensive sheild' helps a lot. USEFULNESS SCALE: 5/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 4 This is the four laser shots at once, It's not so bad, but I always end up missin a lot of enemies in between the spaces of this weapon making it only average in the shceme of things. USEFULNESS SCALE: 3/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 5 This has a strange pattern of laser fire that goes into the middle then spreads out to the sides. Not the extreme sides, mind you, just the upper sides. It is useful, but to too useful. USEFULNESS SCALE: 4/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Weapon Type (IV): Rings =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 1 Rings at level one are downright useless. Because you get a ring surrounding you at an angle that doesnn't help, and only bullets, you should only get this if you are planning to go on the somewhat limited ring path. USEFULNESS SCALE: 1/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 2 One ring surrounding you at a different orbit is the exact same as number one. USEFULNESS SCALE: 1/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 3 Two rings surrounding you really gets some blocking done. USEFULNESS SCALE: 2/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 4 With three rings surrounding you you should have a pretty good chance of blocking any bullets that come your way, still with only bullets as a weapon it's pretty lacking. USEFULNESS SCALE: 3/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Level: 5 Four rings is great, but still you only get bulllets. USEFULNESS SCALE: 3/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= ENHANCEMENTS: ------------ Firepower Marked by a large floating F, firepower increases the firepower of your current weapon a considerable amount. It too has levels, but I can explain those faster: =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Comet Wave This weapon is acheived by having bullets when getting firepower. The weapon is pretty much the same at each level, and the only thing that will change is the amount of bullets that come out of the sides of the comet when they hit something. USEFULNESS SCALE: 3/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Ultra Waves This weapon is acheived by having a wave weapon out when getting the firepower. It will give you at the highest level a huge array of waves comeing out of the back of the ship and doubling back to the front. It is the perfect weapon. The levels are similar to normal waves only you get more of them. USEFULNESS SCALE: 5/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Homing Beam This weapon is gotten by receiving a firepower while having laser weapons. It is okay. It can sometimes miss enemies, and stuff, but overall it does a nice job of clearing everything it can out. USEFULNESS: 4/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Ring Beam When you have rings and you get the firepower you make copies of the rings you have out and shoot them at the opponent, still circling. It's a good weapon, but Sometimes lets enemies through. The levels are similar to the normal rings, only you shoot that amount instead os just circling around you. You also get bullets to shoot, and rings that stay around you when you get this weapon. It's basically a defense weapon. USEFULNESS SCALE: 4/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Oversheild You can tell this item is coming down because it is marked with a large S. This gives you a red sheild that can take countless hits before becoming unstable which then it becomes multicolored. It then dissapears into a massive white sheild that is there forever, but can only take one hit for you. I'm not sure how much time the sheild lasts, but there most certainly is a time limit. USEFULNESS SCALE: 5/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Module This useful peice of machinery will live alongside you and shoot the basic type of the weapon you are shooting. It is overall pretty useful and can get you out of sticky situations with that extra firepower. USEFULNESS SCALE: 4/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= Homing Missles These are a get only when you have no other options. All in all, they are useless and should be avoided. The missles home, but they are slow and do little damage, so overall, it is better to skip them. You will probably die before the missles will anything with over 1 health. USEFULNESS SCALE: 1/5 =-----------------------------------------------------------------------= <=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=> | Part IV: | | Credits/Disclaimer | <=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=> DISCLAIMER ---------- This FAQ is for personal use only.
