So far I have done Adventure Island II and IV as well as Super Adventure Island and, of course, this guide, Super Adventure Island II. The bosses of Adventure Island are sometimes tough, and I believe that boss strategies will come in handy to a lot of people! I believe one day I may cover Adventure Island III, but for now, I have no definite plans to. But I definitely won't cover Adventure Island since it only has one type of boss. If you enjoy the Adventure Island series or want to discuss Adventure Island e-mail me at lance3335@gmail.com. |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-| | PART TWO -- BOSSES | |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-| .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #1 - Evil Tree . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. Evil Tree is a rather easy boss as long as you don't do anything dumb. Equip the dagger(you did get this, right?) before entering his obtrusive door. The goal now is to stay in the far left corner, which will put you out of range of his branch attack. His other attacks are: Apple Toss: Stay on the ground until the apple flies towards you and then jump over it. Tree Shake: This attack can be deadly. It really just relies on luck whether or not the apples end up being impossible to dodge. Nevertheless, do your best to dodge the falling apples. Minion Spit: This is an attack where he spits out a tiny stump that is actually a living creature! It will walk towards you and go off screen. Either jump over it or throw daggers(it takes a lot to kill it but is doable). Branch Swipe: He whirls both branches up and down trying to hit you. If you're on the edge of the screen, you should have no trouble with this attack. The only times you can attack Evil Tree are when his branches are lowered under his eyes or when he is doing the tree shake. You will see Evil Tree make three painful gestures with his mouth before dying. Simply jump and shoot daggers at him. The prize is a Light Stone. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #2 - Muscle Lizard . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. Muscle Lizard is a clutz. He has only one attack, a fire spit that can be leaped over. But he does have many hitpoints. You will likely not die to this guy if following my advice. That said, you must hit Muscle Lizard in the eye(just like Evil Tree). To do this you have to be jumping. You'll only be able to hit him once per jump, so make each one count. You should be using the dagger for this fight because the sword would make things too dangerous. Jump NO MORE THAN THREE TIMES before waiting for his fireball to come and jumping over it effortlessly -- easy, isn't it? Well, keep it up because it will take a while. The spoils of war: Sun Stone. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #3 - Mammoth . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. This boss is SERIOUSLY hard! Use the Fire Sword for this fight. When you enter, he'll be going crazy and shooting bubbles everywhere while swinging his trunk. Ideally, you should be going into this fight with a full 1 and a half hearts(you did get the Life Bottle, right???). You can try to avoid the shots when you enter, but it's pretty hard to do. So, if you get hit, take advantage of the temporary invincibility to hit him with the sword a lot. You should be standing on the ground when you do this. After 5 hits from your Fire Sword, Mammoth will shed his icy shell. He will no longer spew bubbles from his trunk, now, but he will swing it around wildly. You need to hit his eyes at this point, and there is only a split second where you'll be able to dive in and hit his eye. If you jump too late, you'll get nailed by the snout. After around 5 full rotations of his trunk, Mammoth will lower his head and GET READY TO CHARGE AT YOU! You must time your jump right as he reaches the half-way point on the screen to leap over his charge harmlessly. Otherwise, you get hit. Repeat this for a while and, eventually, Mammoth will roar loudly and vanish. You'll earn a Star Stone for this victory. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #4 - Tortoise . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. This boss is considerably easier than Mammoth. When the battle starts, move towards the turtle with your Ice Sword equipped. It will pop its head out from the shell, and then you should repeatedly tap your attack button. If you do it right and are at the right distance, you won't get hit -- that is, until Tortoise goes into his shell. At this point, you'll have to contend with it launching mini-turtles at you and doing an UNDODGEABLE spin attack on the ground level. Attack any turtles he tosses down immediately. Repeat the pattern once Tortoise lands. This fight shouldn't be terribly difficult, and you'll get an Aqua Stone if you win. Good luck. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #5 - Saber Tooth . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. This large tiger/man is very angry about something and will try to land on you by making a huge jump in the air. Use this to your advantage; it is very easy to run under him when he jumps. When the fight starts, walk up to him with the Ice Sword equipped and begin to slash him. Run under him once he jumps. Head towards the center of the battlefield(his lair is a very large room) and then proceed to fight him. In the center of the room, you won't have to worry about getting backed into a corner and Saber Tooth should easily be beatable here. Just slash him as many times as possible before he jumps, then run under him and repeat. Easy, isn't it? You'll get a Powder Fan for bagging him. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #6 - Octopus . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. Octopus is only truly hard if you don't know how to beat him. Knowing how to beat him, you can thrash him by your second try, if not on your first. His first attack will involve a bunch of tentacles shooting up towards you. These are incredibly easy to dodge. I like to just stand in one place and jump up if one comes near me. You could also run around; it doesn't really matter. Eventually, Octopus will begin to rise towards the surface. At this point, once his tentacle rises above the water, he is vulnerable. Hit the tentacle on the left side of the screen and then quickly hit him in his vulnerable face. Repeat this over and over, taking care to avoid the yellow balls Octopus is spewing at you. It's possible to hit the tentacle and the face all in one big leap. Keep that in mind as you fight because you should be getting in at least 5 hits per rise. After a little while, Octopus' rise will end, and he'll submerge once again. The tentacles will begin to swipe at you yet again. Also, you'll notice that he is using ink everytime he submerges. This, I suppose, makes it a bit harder to see, but isn't much of a bother. Claim your prize, the Moon Stone, once you defeat this krazy kraken. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #7 - Mummy . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. A menacing three-part desert boss with some nearly unpredictable patterns! Mummy is the hardest challenge you've faced yet and, in fact, among some of the hardest SNES bosses I've ever faced! Form 1 (Fists) In form one, Mummy has several means of striking you. First, his upper body will damage you heavily if you manage to touch it, but of course you won't be since YOU WON'T BE JUMPING WHILE FIGHTING THIS FORM. The other hazard, the swirling wrapping, is also avoidable by remaining on the ground. Yes, the only obstacle you have to watch out for is the fists themselves, which, unfortunately, function quite well as a solitary weapon for the desert boss. The way to remove his hands is by walking close enough to one of them(while they're levitating) to entice it to fall down and then backing up immediately. If you do it right and bait the hand to land in front of you, you should immediately begin striking it with your Crystal Sword. Once you get near a corner, just bait the fist to fall and then run under it to the other side as it rises. You'll have to repeat this pattern for a while because the fists take a lot of hits to kill, as they function as two separate enemies in terms of hitpoints. Form 2 (Upper Body) Upper Body is only a difficult form if you are being impatient. If you remain calm and methodically repeat my method, you shouldn't get touched at all. Here's what you need to do: go to a corner and wait. You can't be hurt if you're standing while fighting this form, so use that to your advantage -- wait ntil the ribbon begins to curve to the opposite side of you and then leap up and strike towards the top of the ribbon. The hit detection range is pretty big, so learn how far away you can attack it without touching the upper body. If you do touch the upper body, you'll wonder where about two full hearts went :( The wrapping is a minor obstacle in this form, since you're going to remain PATIENT and only try for one or two hits each time Mummy circles the room. Form 3 (Head) This is a very unpredictable form, even moreso than the wrapping was. Mummy's head goes around the room trying to attack you in this form, but you can easily bring him to a halt with a few slashes of your Crystal Sword and then you can pummel him endlessly -- that is, until he spits out an ice ball at you. When this happens, you'll need to dodge it. Unfortunately, these seem to be homing ice balls, and they'll do their best to whack you. Also, while you're dodging these ice balls, Mummy's head will resume ts normal speed since you aren't slashing it. This is when things get hairy. The best you can do is just try to avoid the ice balls while keeping in mind that your real objective is the head. If you just have to get hit, try to get hit by the actual balls rather than the head. The head will bruise you bad, but the ice won't do too much damage. Still, this is the last but second hardest form, so remain vigilant! For your troubles, an Elven Flute will be bestowed upon you. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #8 - Hawk . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. Hawk, althogh easy in theory, is actually a bit of a pain. He has two attacks that he alternates between and then he goes into a "mode" of sorts. His first attack is the swooping, Mode 7 egg-drop. Here, he will fly over you harmlessly and then drop an egg right where his beak was as he went off-screen. All you need to do is step aside, but be careful -- the egg is about to hatch!! It contains a nasty little bird that can sling flames, fly, use a shield, jump and drop down on your head. You need to eliminate this thing before it leaves its shell, or you're in trouble. If it does get out of the shell, play a defensive game to avoid damage. Don't worry; the hawk won't bother you while you're fighting its baby. After the egg is eliminated(which should be done on the right side of the screen, by the way), start to back up and get ready to jump and hit Hawk at least three times as he comes up from his swoop and prepares to go off-screen. Eventually, Hawk will run out of eggs in his nest. You can see how many eggs he as left, and when he uses that last one(and only after you destroy it), equip Fireballs and proceed to walk back and forth on the bottom of the screen. Hawk becomes somewhat unpredictable here, but if you keep in mind that he almost always reaches the lowest point of his descent WHERE YOU WERE STANDING WHEN HE APPEARED and use fireballs religously, you'll be able to take him down. Don't get me wrong; this fight is tough. But it can be done!! Go to it! Rescue Tina! Yay Master Higgins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...ahem. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #9 - Phantom . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. Phantom is the next to last boss and has three forms. Form 1 (Whole) In this form, Phantom is a singular creature. In other words, there is only one of him. He has two attacks that he will employ against you while in this form. The first is the basic one -- non-stop pinwheels of red damage balls that gradually circle around farther and farther apart. His other attack is a colorful burst of magic that is easily avoided if Higgins is standing. To hit him in this form, you should duck down beside his body and slash like crazy with the Power Sword. When the red damage ball is about to reach you, back off and wait until its radius expands so you can get back down beside Phantom and hit him. Phantom will be making another pinwheel around this time, so you'll need to keep an eye out for it as well. If you do this right and with perfect timing, Phantom will go to his next form after three rounds of you attacking. Form 2 (Fission) Phantom will split into two bodies, now. In this form you will need to use the same pattern as before(move in when pinwheel radius broadens), but you'll need to do several things differently. First, you can't jump at all -- which isn't to suggest that you should have been jumping on the previous form, either, but you'll get hit if you jump now. Second, ignore the flying Phantom completely. Third, stand while you attack the ground Phantom. For some reason, this form can't be hurt with ducking attacks. This form can be dispersed in the first round if you're quick enough. If not, it will dissipate and reappear on the other side of the screen. Form 3 (Second Wind) After killing Phantom's ground body, his upper half will begin to swoop down. DON'T WASTE THIS OPPORTUNITY! JUMP AND GET AT LEAST TWO HITS IN EVERY TIME PHANTOM SWOOPS because if you don't, you'll have to deal with his energy balls for a lot longer. Eventually, after a little bit of swooping(dont be super shy; Phantom's hit radius isn't large, and you can touch parts of him without getting hurt), Phantom will start to charge up an energy ball. From now on, he'll regularly toss three red damage balls outwards. These can be very hard to avoid. Continue jumping and striking him and jumping some more to avoid the balls if possible. Once you finish off this form, the final boss will appear. .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. . . . Boss #10 - Scorpion . . . .O0O0O0O0O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0. The Scorpion has always been a classic Adventure Island boss, and this time he is back and meaner than ever. When the screen goes black and the music changes, know that you're about to encounter Scorpion in a space-like setting. Scorpion isn't terribly difficult IF YOU'VE SAVED YOUR MAGIC UP TO THIS POINT!! If you haven't, you will have to be very skilled at dodging Scorpion's blue damage balls(he shoots around 6 at a time). Anyway, Scorpion's two forms: Form 1 (Pincers) Scorpion moves side to side on the top of the screen here. He will do one of two attacks after some movement: blue damage ball throw or claw dive. The claw dive uses both claws to plummet towards the ground(in theory catching you, but it's easy to avoid and capitalize on by getting 2 hits on a particular claw). The blue damage ball throw is the one you need to watch out for. Scorpion will toss a lot of damage balls with one claw and then do the same with the other. The tricky part is that you never know which claw it will be. If it turns out to be a claw very close to you, don't hesitate to use Recovery for temporary invincibility if you have any magic left. This is the best way to avoid his damage balls. Either way, you should be striking his claws constantly. While Scorpion isn't attacking at all, he is just moving back and forth and can be hit each time you go to the other side of the screen, since you move a little bit faster than him. Form 2 (Body w/ Stinger) After beating the Pincers form, Scorpion will prepare to drop down in the middle of the screen. Don't stand there! Equip your Dagger at this point(unless you saved up for a Boomerang, in which case equip that) and start attacking Scorpion. You'll get hit more than likely when Scorpion first moves to a corner of the room, but afterwards you shouldn't get touched at all. Even using a wimpy weapon like Dagger, you can defeat Scorpion easily in this form. All he does is try a useless short range attack a few times with his stinger and then run towards the other corner of the screen. Simply stand a little bit near the center, but closer to the opposite side of the room from Scorpion and jump over him as he starts to move. It should work every time. Good luck. |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-| | PART THREE -- CREDITS | |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-| GameFAQs and CjayC - For hosting this site and providing so many resources for old and new games alike, as well as remaining pop-up free and up to date.
