If you're like me, you have a difficult time remembering which stores carry the items you want in Star Ocean 2. Star Ocean is no different. In fact, I find it even more difficult because it's in Japanese, a language I don't know, and I imagine most people playing Star Ocean also don't know Japanese. I wrote this FAQ to aid myself in Item Creation, and I hope it can help you as well. First, a brief explanation. In Star Ocean, shops can be recognized (usually) by a sign next to the building's door. One type of shop is labeled with a sign showing three round objects. They could be bubbles, berries, whatever. Your guess is a good as mine. ^_~ Since these shops generally carry items that heal, I call them "Potion Shops". Another type of shop is labeled with something that looks like a pot, a bottle, something like that. Since these shops generally carry items such as raw materials for Item Creation and offensive items for battle, I call them "Tool Shops". The shops that sell weapons and armor I call "Armories". These are labeled with a sword. "Skill Shops" sell skills (duh). These are labeled with a magnifying lens. There are exceptions to these, so my advice is to talk to every person in a town. You should be able to find the store you want easily enough. In addition to the items I have listed prices. But as far as I can tell, prices are constant in the game. No matter what shop you're in, a Blackberry is going to cost the same amount. By the way, I threw in Skill shops just for the heck of it. You really don't need that information. Star Ocean doesn't allow you to buy a set of skills more than once, so each time you reach a new Skill shop, try buying them all. You'll get the ones you need, and you don't have to worry about wasting money on the ones you already have. .......................... I. CONTACTING ME .......................... Since I don't know Japanese, some of my translations could possibly be incorrect, but with the aid of Katakana and Hiragana charts, Ian Kelley's walkthrough and FAQs, the Star Ocean: The Second Story Strategy Guide, my friends who know Japanese, and other resources, I think I got almost everything right. After reading through this, though, I'm sure you'll discover the translations I'm unsure of. If you can help me with these, I'd REALLY appreciate it. If there's any information you think is missing or info that you'd like to see added, email about that. I will NOT include info relating to the ROM, nor will I change my FAQ to match any translation patches out there. I did the work of translating all this stuff myself before the ROM was even playable. If you'd just like some help with something in Star Ocean, I would be happy to help, but I will not and cannot (as I've never played it and have no desire to) provide information on where to find the ROM or how to get it to work, nor will I answer questions regarding translations patches. I love chatting about tri-Ace and the Star Ocean games, though. ^_^ My email address is: triacesuperfan@hotmail.com .......................... COPYRIGHT INFORMATION .......................... You guys rule. ^_^ Enix for publishing this game. Ian Kelley. Without your walkthrough, I would have never been able to play this game. The same goes for many SO fans. Your walkthrough and FAQs also helped me with the names of a few items. Your Hiragana and Katakana charts have been useful in MANY ways. PJK and Kurt. Thanks for letting me bug you about some translations. And thanks to all my buddies at the Game Pond and the Castlevania Dungeon for putting up with my constant ranting and raving about how Square sucks and tri-Ace games are God's greatest gift to man. =P GameFAQs for just existing. What would I do at 3 in the morning without your FAQs and message boards? Andreas. No real reason. Just felt like thanking you. You know why. ^_~ And I thank myself, because without me, this FAQ wouldn't be possible. So... till next time, peeps. Toodles.
