Introduction and Revision History II. Walkthough - Green Valley - Greenwood - St. Elles - Mountain of Souls III. Thanks and Disclaimer =-----------------------------------------------------------------------------= 1. INTRODUCTION AND REVISION HISTORY Hey all. Thanks for wanting to read this. If you're wondering why I'm making this FAQ, nearly 8 years after this game was released, then I'll tell you. This is one of my all-time favorites, and I can still remember a lot of the game, even know I was 8 years old when the game first came out. I have just gotten interested in writing FAQs (this is my first) so I decided I would do it on this game. Feel free to contribute anything. Suggestions, tips, hints, gripes, money donations, etc. can be sent at hp4life_7@hotmail.com. Revision History v0.10 (1/30/00) : First version of FAQ. Wanted to make sure I was getting this done right, so I sent an early version. Wouldn't want to make a 100k+ FAQ and not have it make the cut =) v0.20 (2/02/00) : More done I guess. Will be adding more then just walkthrough soon. v0.30 (2/??/00) : Finished all of Area 4. If this doesnt get posted, I doubt I¹ll work on it much. I¹ll keep it on my page though. v0.31 (3/19/00) : Just wanted to update it so each of my FAQs look the same. Nothing much. Geez, I need to get working on something new. v0.32 (3/31/0)) : Realized I had not actually tried to post this to GameFAQs since I've been succesful in getting my GT2, Diablo, and FAQs in, I decided to see if this gets posted. If it does, I'll definately finish it. v0.40 (4/??/00) : Added ASCII work, as well as fixed lay out. Added to walkthrough for the first time in nearly 2 months, since this guide was posted on GAMEFAQS! Yes! V0.50 (4/07/00) : Fixed text wrap...hmmm the whole FAQ was messed up, took about 30 minutes to fix. Contributor Ken Lawler pointed out to me some of the things that I wasn¹t sure how to get. V0.51 (1/18/03) : Early spring cleaning. Deleted filler. In Future Revisions: -------------------- Read above note that beginning. =-----------------------------------------------------------------------------= II. WALKTHROUGH A R E A 1 : G R E E N V A L L E Y ------------------------------------------------------------ You will begin the game in a small temple, and a golden statue (right in front of you will begin to speak with you). After he is done, walk left into the portal, and you will move into a new area. Walk straight up, open the chest, and you will find a Sword of Life. Equip it, and take out the monsters coming from the portal on the bottom right. NOTE: This is where all your enemies come from, excluding major bosses. Get used to these! After you destroy all the enemies, the portal changes... step on it. A man will pop up, and begin talk with him. He will explain what is happening and will give you his power, and explain the gems. After you have talked with him, head back into the small shrine room where you first started. Save if you want (talk with the golden statue), or you can go down and use another portal, which will lead you into a GREEN VALLEY. This is where the town is, but you need to do something before the town is there. =) heh. Head south, down the stairs, and into the cave. ----------------------------------- U N D E R G R O U N D C A S T L E ----------------------------------- People to be saved: Grandma's house Tool shop owner 3 Tulips Ivy Water Mill Owner 3 Old men 2 Goats Lisa Architect Tool Shop Owner's son Chests: Medical Herb Dream Rod Paintbrush This area is pretty much self-explanatory. Kill any guys you see, and touch the portal to unlock a building in the town, or a treasure chest, or a ladder leading up to another part of the dungeon. To use the elevator, make sure you have the water mill owner, then head back into town. Go past the bridge, and go inside the water mill house. Help him turn the water mill, and you will be able to operate the elevator now. Go back to town, and go to Lisa's house (to the right of the water mill). You will find her asleep. Equip the dream rod and talk to her. Step on the switch, Dr. Leo will talk, and you will pop out of the dream. She tells you that she will explain everything she knows if you find her father's paintbrush. Since you just hit the switch opening the path to the chest, go back. If you can't remember, its right below where you first enter the room with all the conveyor belts. Get it, and go back into town. Talk to her and she will explain what has happened. Make sure you grab a medical herb from the tool shop (its free) and head to the painting house (north of Lisa's). Equip the paintbrush and talk to the painting... ------------------------------------- I N S I D E T H E P A I N T I N G ------------------------------------- People to save: 2 Tulip Lonely Goat Ivy Goat 2 Boys This area is a real pain, especially with those spear throwers. My advice to you is try to get them diagonally, so you will be able to take them out before they hit you. Although these guys are a pain, this area is very linear. Nothing really special. Be careful about the spiky things that roll around the room. YOU CAN'T KILL THEM. Eventually you will get up to a hallway. Kill the spear throwers and a portal will appear to your left. Go in and it will take you to the shrine room. SAVE. There's a boss coming up. Before you fight him, make sure you have the iron armor. Its located on the right section of town, on the bottom left. Use the ivy down, and enter the cave. Inside, are 2 chests and a crystal. The left chest has the IRON ARMOR, while the right chest has 50 GOLD. The crystal gives you some experience. How nice! Head back through the portal to the painting. Make sure you have a MEDICAL HERB equipped. This is a simple fight, but a long one. The key is too not stand on the platform he is on. You will get killed. Lure him to the left, by standing on the conveyor belt, making sure you don't move onto hisplatform. Once he is there hurry to the middle one, and swipe at him once or twice with your sword. Then run back down and lure him to the left. Repeat until he is dead. This is extremely long, but this is the only way I've found out. Once he is dead, hit the switch and the village chief is released. Go back through the portal in the hallway, and talk to him. He gives you the brown stone. Now go back to the shrine area, talk to the golden statue, and you can now move to GREENWOOD, area 2. ***************************************************************************** PASS (From Ken Lawler) You should have these plants/people saved: Boy with House, Boy in Door, Tulip (near the boy's house). The boy in the door won't let you through without a pass. Go to the boy in the house, talk to him, and see where he moves to (east side of the tulip mentioned above). Enter the dungeon and come back, stand where the boy was, and move towards the tulip. You'll push it to the side and gain the pass. Give the pass to the boy and he'll let you into the cave. The reward? A strange bottle. SLEEPING TULIP (From Ken Lawler) Not much here. Use the Dream Rod on the sleeping tulip. In the dream, talk to the tulip, and he'll make a blue crystal appear. Talk to the spirit to gain a reward (I think it's EXP), and choose to go back. That's it. ***************************************************************************** A R E A 2 : G R E E N W O O D ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------- L O S T S I D E --------------- Animals to save: Bird Dog Not much going on. Progress through the path to get inside the water temple. Watch out for the dragon-type monster that pop out of the monsters. They may get you if you're not paying attention. Nothing too tough. ----------------------- W A T E R T E M P L E ----------------------- Animals to save: (Floor 1) Squirrel (note: remember this one's location) (Floor 2) Bird Mole Deer (Floor 3) Crocodile Squirrel Mole Chests: (Floor 1) 50 Gems (Floor 2) 150 Gems (Floor 3) Delicious Seeds Strange Bottle You are only allowed through a little of floor 1. Take out any monsters and head for the stairs to the left of the entrance. The 2nd floor is much the same, there is a chest full of gems, as well as a crystal that can take you back into Greenwood. I suggest you skip it though, unless you're really getting pounded. Continue on and head for the stairs down. Floor 3 consists of a very nice item, delicious seeds. Although its useless in this form, you can trade it for a nice sword with a squirrel. You should know where this squirrel is, if you kill all monsters. Keep going up, and you will find a small passageway to your right. Hit X on the square and you will find a strange bottle. Using it will make sure you keep all your gems if you die. Hit back in the hallway and continue up, then right. When you find a group of statues, hit the 4th one, and it will come alive. Kill it, and continue on. Eventually you will get to another room full of statues. There's 1 on each side That's alive. Kill them, and head up to floor 1. Grab the chest with 50 Gems, and go outside. ----------------------------------------- O N T O T H E F I R E P A L A C E ----------------------------------------- Animals to rescue: Dog Pretty much self-explanatory, like most of the game. There's a portal you can get to the shrine, so I suggest you use it to get fullhealth and to save. Also, head into Greenwood, talk to the starving squirrel to get the Psycho Sword. Other then that, head to the Fire Palace. --------------------- F I R E P A L A C E --------------------- Animals to rescue: (Floor 2) 3 Dogs Crocodile Squirrel (Reached by a ladder on Floor 3) (Floor 3) 2 Moles Squirrel Deer Bird Chests: (Floor 2) Medical Herb Floor 1 is fairly simple. Kill the monster's lair and stairs will appear. Go down them. Floor 2 is a maze with little scorpions running around. Use your psycho sword to stun them if they get near you. Kill all lairs and a staircase will open near the stairs you used to get down. Floor 3 isn't much either. There are heated bridgesthat turn real hot and then cool down. Run across just when it begins to turn gray, and you should be ok. Eventually, you find a staircase up, and then another staircase up back on floor 1. Leave the palace and you will find yourself outside again... ------------------------------------------- O N T O T H E L I G H T P A L A C E ------------------------------------------- Animals to Rescue: Mole Dog Go back to Greenwood. Head down to the graveyard and enter the bird's dream. Turbo will show up, and then leave, and you will exit the dream. Talk to the bird and he will suggest to grab some leaves where Turbo died. Go back up both crocodiles, and the first mole hole you see, go down. Head down and you should see a bone-head type thing. Step on it and you have Turbo's leaves. Make sure you have a medical herb, save and head back to the light palace. This time, the raft will allow you on it. Use the rafts to move through the "lake" and enter the palace. ----------------------- L I G H T P A L A C E ----------------------- Animals to Rescue: (Floor 1) Squirrel (Gives Emblem C to you) (Floor 2) Crocodile (Allows passage for deer. In return, get a jewel) Mole (Needed to get Shield Bracelet) Wood's Guardian Items: Shield Bracelet (Mole's Ribbon) Not too difficult, eh? Watch out though, these guys pack a punch, and you may find yourself with no life very quickly. Make sure you have that MEDICAL HERB with you! Clear out the area, making sure you get the Squirrel on the top right. Head down to the 2nd floor. Make sure you have ample health, because I found myself getting hurt a lot. Floor 2 is all dark, and if you haven't talk with the first mole you released and he will give you the "light" power. Head up and to the right to find the first lair. Destroying it will unlock part of the wall. Past the wall, go right, down, and another lair is found. Those invincible guys are tough! After its destroyed, go right and you will find a flame monster as well as the invincible demons (can I call them that =). I suggest you use your light arrow, as it takes them both out in a hit and you won't have to worry about getting hurt. The bottom lair unlocks a portal (oh no, must mean the boss is near...) and the top releases a mole. After releasing the mole, go back to Greenwood. You will find the mole on the top right side of town. Talk with her, and lead her to her hole. Its the last one on the left of the group of 3 holes (has a rock by it). You need to walk her into it, without you going in it. It seems like a pain in the ass and it is. Try making her walk down it, and then back up...that's what I did. She will tell you to wait...but she's just a mole! Go down and grab the chest. With the ribbon in hand, leave the hole and go down the one to your right. Equip it and talk to the mole guarding the other one. He disappears and the other one gives you the SHIELD BRACELET. Very nice indeed! Make sure you have a MEDICAL HERB, and head back into the light palace. Continue left, take out the 3 ghosts, and head up then right down the small passage, and up to the boss' lair. This boss is easy and hard at the same time. He consists of 3 heads, representing each palace you went. The light head, is the easiest. Stay diagonal on it and you won't get it. Very easy, but things gettough. The water head has no obvious pattern. Sometimes it would circle me around a few times and I just hack at it. You will get hurt, but not more then half your life, and you still have you MEDICALHERB. If you already used it...well good luck! The third is the toughest, and forget about your life and hit him! The shield bracelet should help out, and if you get close to dying, switch to your MEDICAL HERB, heal, and switch back. You will get hurt, I promise you that, but at the end, its just a hack-and-slash boss. After defeating them, you release the Wood's Guardian. Head back to Greenwood. The Guardian gives you the Green Stone, which allows you access to Area 3! Save, and move out! ***************************************************************************** CHEST IN THE BACK (From Ken Lawler) In the southwest corner of Greenwood (I believe this is correct) there is a squirrel that says that he hears someone sleeping, but can't tell from where. It's the stump next to him. use the Dream Rod to enter the stump's dream and hit the symbol (You know, what a defeated enemy generator looks like) to clear some bushes. Talk to the bird to leave the dream, then head up to see that you can now reach the chest. Inside is the Ice Armor which not only gives more protection, but allows you to cross those nasty fire bridges unharmed! ***************************************************************************** A R E A 3 : S T . E L L E S ------------------------------------------------------------ When you reach St. Elles Palace, you receive the bad news you can't live underwater, by the mermaid statue, north of the shrine portal. After talking with it, go back down into the shrine, and a new portal is opened, to Southerta. ----------------- S O U T H E R T A ----------------- Souls to Rescue: Dolphin 4 mermaids (4th one gives you bubble armor) Chest: Medical Herb Very straight forward. Just kill, step on switch, and kill. Sometimes its hard to judge where to go. Also, theres a lair which you can't hit. Don't worry, you can get it later. Get the 4th mermaid in the area and head back th St Elles. Equip the bubble armor, and head down. Make sure you have a MEDICAL HERB equipped. ------------------- D O W N U N D E R ------------------- Souls to Rescue: Mermaid Mermaid's Statue Although the area looks large, its quite small. The monsters in here give tons of EXP, so expect your levels to rise. I started on 8, and on 9, almost to 10. First, go left, up the stairs. You will return to Southerta at the one part you couldn't reach. Nail the lair, and you will release a Mermaid's Statue. Next, head back to the Palace, and talk to it. She will remove a passage that blocks your way through the whole underwater way. Clear out monsters, most switches clear a wall so that you can get to things easier. Head to your right and you will find some stairs leading to a new area (above the water). --------- V I N E S --------- Souls to Rescue: 2 mermauds Mermaid's statue Angelfish (Gives you power to block Magma Rain) Other: 60 GEMS Medical Herb Jewel (Gives 200 EXP and option to go back) Ummm...yeah, couldn't find the exact name. I don't believe its Southerta though so I just made something up. Just kill the lair, and it sink a pool. Go down, hit the switches down there, and it will open another part of the area. You will find a bunch of stuff here though, but nothing to hard, and with the shield bracelet, your health won't get hurt. You should be at level 10, or near it by now (i was). Make sure you clear out all monsters, especially the part with the shell guys. Remember this. Go back to the Palace and talk to the new Statue you released. She will remove a passage right near where the shell guys were. ---------------------------------- O N T O T H E V O L C A N O ---------------------------------- Souls to Rescue: Dolphin Other: Jewel (EXP and option back) Go through the area, very obvious on what to do. When you get to the jewel, go back and talk to the angelfist on the bottom right side. He will lend his power to you, and will protect you from the falling magma rocks. Head back down, and enter the Volcano area. ------------- V O L C A N O ------------- Souls to Rescue: Lue, the Dolphin 2 mermaids Dolphin (attempts to help Lue) You probably will get hurt a bunch here. Straight forward, however. Be careful of the rock dudes, they hurt. Also the gray color apes can't be hurt with the Psycho Sword. Forget about them, you can getthem later. Make sure you grab the Critical Sword. A nice upgrade from the Pyscho. Too bad the critical part never works. Go up andon top, use the mermaid tears to cool off all the magma. You can now reach the last lair. Kill it, and a 3rd statue will appear. Go to it, and it will open up the passage to the top right. ------------- B L E S T E R ------------- Ack, lost everything. OK, I'll come back to this, but for now, you have to go back to town (or whatever it is) and talk with the mermaid guarding the columns (??) on the west side of town. Answer yes, and you will be transported to Lue the dolphin. He will give you the thunder ring, and now you can kill those iron apes in Blester only. Don't get any ideas, only works in Blester. See those little orange squares? Step on them with the Thunder ring equipped and zap! This takes awhile to kill the lair, but theres only a few apes. Hit the last switch and you release the 4th statue. Go back and talk to it. The statue will release the last door (Top left in the big waiter area). ------------------- G H O S T S H I P ------------------- You first need to travel in a maze of green bush. Make sure you grab the power bracelet on the east side (Its away from the way out,so make sure you look for it first). Once you get it, go through the maze. Make sure you take out the final lair, before you go up. Its a portal back to the shrine, so you can get a herb, heal, and save. Go up the rope when you're ready. You first have to make you're way up to the boss. Not too hard. Be careful on the little worms that pop up. The wood might hurt you. The torches won't shoot unless you pass them and they only shoot left and right, so they aren't much of a problem. When you reach the boss, stay on the RIGHT side. Equip the magic flair (hopeyou got it; its on the right side of the large palace leading into the seabed. You need to go past the area where you the angelfish lended his power), charge it up and nail the hands. Hopefulky you can get both. As soon as both are dead, walk up to the head (from the RIGHT) and hit him with the power bracelet equipped. Before the hands come back, it will move to the right, so make sure you back away. Nail the hands again, and repeat the process. Once hes dead, you release the queen. Head back and she gives you the blue stone, and access to area 4. ****************************************************************************** Things to do in St. Elles - Remember the dolphin that moved you with his nose? And you got the big pearl? No, ok. I know i mentioned it, but hes on the very west side. Grab the pearl and head to the sleeping dolphin where Lue is (or was). Enter his dream, with the pearl equipped and you can move the dolphin, grabing the Emblem C. ****************************************************************************** A R E A 4 : M O U N T A I N O F S O U L S --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You start in a empty cave. Find the stairs (I believe its its at the very top, not sure though) and lets release some guys! ----------------------------------------- M O U N T A I N , N O R T H - S L O P E ----------------------------------------- 8 Lairs Not much going on here. Climb up and into the entrance of the next area. One of the easier areas. Enix could've just skipped this entirely. --------------------------- A U R O R A ' S R I D G E --------------------------- 9 Lairs Chests: 40 Gems Medical Herb Nothing =( Magic Armor (YAY!) Again there isn't much you can do here. The snow balls are a pain in the ***. You need to lure them into a rock or a wall. Also, those Ice sheets can be climbed on, and are a pain when those snow balls are around you so make sure you take care of them. Head up into the entrance at the top. --------------------------------------- T O P O F S N O W M O U N T A I N --------------------------------------- 5 Lairs Other: Jewel - EXP and the option to go back This ice is a pain, but you can do everything by sliding across. Eventually, you should release the girl that has the mushroom shoes. Use the jewel to go back and get them. Then come back and finish off anything left and to go on to the ice hill. --------------------- A N I C E H I L L --------------------- 10 Lairs This area is a pain with all the ice. When you reach the area with sheets, the 2nd to the left and right are empty. So don't both with them. The left has a lair, as well as the right. The middle has 2. To go down further, use the left sheet and watch out for those Ice Crystals. --------------------------------------- I C E F I E L D O F L A Y N O L E --------------------------------------- 11 Lairs Chest: Lucky blade Not much here too, nice experience however. Those new red mage guys give out 100! Anyway, you can release a portal to the shrine(always good) so you can save. To reach some parts, wait for a bridge to appear. Grab the lucky blade and get all the lairs except for 3. You can't reach them, yet. Use the portal back, and head west and you should find some stairs that lead you back to Laynole, but to another part. --------------------------------- A P A S S A G E T O L U N E --------------------------------- 7 Lairs Extremely simple. Watch out for those damn monsters that cause the ice to appear around you. It gets annoying and if you aren't careful, you can get hurt alot. Other then that, not much else. Clear out and head down to the lake. ------------------------------------------- U N D E R G R O U N D L A K E , L U N E ------------------------------------------- 12 Lairs Ack, each switch opens a passage to another area so its easy to get lost or miss a switch. Hehe. The boss is located in the temple type door at the top of the area. Again watch out for those ice monsters, its worse now, and since you need to move around alot with those mage monsters, its a pain. Theres a portal you release which takes you to the shrine. Save, and take on the boss. The boss is poseidon (sp?) from ancient greek mythology. Anyway, he's easier then hell. Nail him when he gets close, and use the dents in the walls to escape the fire balls that shoot side to side. Pretty much another easy boss. You will end up saving the leader of the Underground village, give you the Silver stone. Go back to town, and talk to Nome. =-----------------------------------------------------------------------------= III.
